• Very short presentation of VARD
• Examples of innovation based on collaboration in various ways
• A few thoughts about the future
• Q/A
VARD in 2 minutes…
• A Fincantieri company since January 2013
• Listed in Singapore since 2010
• Around 10.000 employees
• HQ in Ålesund, Norway, offices in 12 other countries
• 10 shipyards in Europe, Asia and America

Collaboration and innovation
• Our experience is that innovation is driven by a lot of different factors:
• «Mater artium necessitas»
• Disruptive technologies
• New market areas
• Creativity
• Feedback from users/customers
• Cost cutting
• Rules and regulations
• And many more…

Functionality of the vessel
• Specific needs for functionality, maybe never done before Drives collaboration between ship owner, design company and shipyard

Disruptive technologies - robots
• “Could A Robot Do My Job” (BBC documentary)?
• 1 out of 3 jobs to be taken over by robots?
• Are we ready for one of the biggest changes the world of work has ever seen?

Robots – example from shipbuilding
• Turning the business upside down?
• Kleven Group has made a game changing decision by taking hull production back to Norway
• Use of robot technology
• No need to do labour intensive work in low cost countries
• Quality improves

Redesigning offshore vessel for special purposes
• Reuse of offshore design for completely different purposes
• Enter new markets with proven technology but with innovative functionality and features

Vard Horizon – our new design platform
• Innovative and high-tech design, developed based on collaboration and feedback from major customers
• Challenging class-society and authorities when it comes to approval…

SeaQ – innovative solutions
• Together with our customers, we continuously push the boundaries for specialized ships Result: SeaQ Flexible Solutions™
• Scalability and compatibility with other providers
• Flexibility to choose between individual solutions and integrated packages
• In our world, you can’t call it innovation if it isn’t tried and tested!

SharePoint as a collaboration platform
• Need to work efficient in global multi-site projects
• Over the years we have developed a collaboration platform based on SharePoint together with one of our major customer
• Originated form a shipbuilding contract

Smart Cabin – passenger adapted
• Utilising “big data” to provide the passengers with relevant information and the possibility to tailor their stay to their preferences
• Collecting and analysing passenger behaviour Providing “instantly” adapted features for the customers

Smart Cabin – reducing costs and space requirements
• Tight collaboration with our customers have resulted in cabins for offshore and fishing vessels with cost and space saving solutions:
• One bathroom shared between two cabins

Nordic wildfish and 100% utilisation of resources
A collaboration between several parties, including research organisations, equipment suppliers and of cause shipyard and customer has resulted in a unique and technologically advanced factory trawler with unprecedented features: F/T Molnes

• Utilisation of what normally considered waste
• Improved freezing technology
• Technology from fish farms
• More environment friendly
• Improved product quality
Innovation and collaboration in the future
• Data utilisation from sensors and equipment
• Internet of Things
• Big Data - analytics
Examples:
• Optimisation of hull forms based on collected data from existing vessels
• Improved versions of equipment based on sensor data from what’s in use
• Preventive maintenance/replacement of equipment taken to new levels

Innovation and collaboration in the future
• Maybe we will collaborate more with the ships themselves than with the persons owning and operating the ships?
• For passenger vessel it will be essential to know the behaviour of the passengers in order to provide them with the best possible experience on board
04.04.2016 | Page 16
• More “fact” based innovation
• Better support for understanding trends
• Possibilities for “on the fly” innovations
• Support for disruptive innovations
