This is the last Theme detailing exposure in this series. The widely accepted concept is that three things primarily aect exposure. Of the three I consider shuƩer speed to be the pinnacle. The other two are ISO and aperture. Varying the aperture will aect depth of eld. Varying the ISO will potenƟally introduce noise. Unless you are shooƟng moving objects, the negaƟve eect of varying shuƩer speed is minimal. So far in this series we have established that depending on what your subject is you can decide when and how to take control of the exposure. Always leaving these choices up to the camera’s electronic circuitry will produce unpredictable results. You wait for the accidental giŌ from the photo gods and say, “Hey this is a good one.” In this month’s Theme you have the greatest opportunity to make images you probably did not know were possible with your current camera. Get out there, take pictures and take control of the outcome. Shutter Speed the Pinnacle of the Magic Triangle . Apeture Aperture’s greatest inuence is depth of eld. The most accurate focus and exposure can literally remain unseen if depth of eld is ignored. Preseƫng the aperture with using the “A” aperture preferred posiƟon of the Mode Dial is the best way to take control of this. Knowing what seƫng to use for the aperture will come with experience. For portraits start with f8, and for landscapes start with f11. For closeups use the smallest f stop you can for the greatest depth of eld. This is the last Theme detail‐

ing exposure in this series.

The widely accepted concept

is that three things primarily

affect exposure. Of the three

I consider shu er speed to

be the pinnacle.  The other

two are ISO and aperture.

Varying the aperture will

affect depth of field. Varying

the ISO will poten ally intro‐

duce noise.  Unless you are

shoo ng moving objects, the

nega ve effect of varying

shu er speed is minimal.

So far in this series we have

established that depending

on what your subject is you

can decide when and how to

take control of the exposure.

Always leaving these choices

up to the camera’s electronic

circuitry will produce unpre‐

dictable results. You wait for

the accidental gi  from the

photo gods and say, “Hey

this is a good one.”  In this

month’s Theme you have the

greatest opportunity to make

images you probably did not

know were possible with

your current camera. Get out

there, take pictures and take

control of the outcome.

Shutter  Speed  the  Pinnacle  of  the  Magic  Triangle .

Apeture

Aperture’s greatest influence

is depth of field. The most

accurate focus and exposure

can literally remain unseen if

depth of field is ignored. Pre‐

se ng the aperture with

using the “A” aperture pre‐

ferred posi on of the Mode

Dial is the best way to take

control of this. Knowing what

se ng to use for the aper‐

ture will come with experi‐

ence. For portraits start with

f8, and for landscapes start

with f11.

For close‐ups use the small‐

est f stop you can for  the

greatest  depth of field.

Never hesitate to

raise the ISO if cir‐

it. It is not the op on

of last resort. Think of

it as a flash replace‐

NAPP Image of the Week winner is Tom Bell and his black and white image called Magic. This image impressed the judges because of the composition, tex-ture, plus the solid blacks and bright whites all balanced accurately through-out the image. We liked how the back-ground was both blurred and cropped away to focus the attention on the sub-ject but not remove her entirely from her environment.

bugs-OTOW Photography Club is open to all residents of OTOW.

Our Mission is to foster growth, vision, and knowledge of photography. We encourage membership by fellow devotees from novices to pros.

Join us to learn how to:

take better photos;

organize your photos on your computer;

edit your photographs using Photoshop Ele-ments, Picasa, etc., and display your photos.

You’ll be able to participate in photography challenges, meet new neighbors, take field trips to capture exciting new places, events, and nature with your camera – and then what to do with the photos once you’ve taken them.

This club is all about the members—so come and join us. Meetings are held Tuesdays of the month at 3:00 pm in room “B” at the Arbor Club Conference Center. The third Tuesday is usually the field trip.

Membership in the Shutter-

Shutterbugs travel far and wide across Florida for pho-to opportunities, including field trips to zoos, rookeries, alligator farms, horse ranch-es, butterfly farms, aquari-ums, unusual landscapes and water venues, boat trips, historical sites, etc. It’s an educational ex-perience to see how every-one’s “eye” sees something different. Plus, then we go to somewhere to eat, com-pare notes, and laugh!

If we’ve wetted your appe-tite, come share in the en-joyment of our hobby.
