The University Grants Commission, New Delhi; Panjab University, Chandigarh and Dept. of
Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration are our major support systems. In addition, our
college Administrative Branch, Examination Branch, Hostel and Library work in close
confluence and ensure smooth running of the college.
UGC RESOURCE CELL
The University Grants Commission, New Delhi has given financial approval for Rupees 17
Lakh as Seed Money under COP scheme. Earlier UGC had also sanctioned Career Oriented
Courses in the subject of Event Management, Tourism, Bioinformatics, Environment Auditing,
Disaster Management and Entrepreneurship which are the maximum number of courses
sanctioned by UGC to any of the city Govt. colleges.
PG Diploma in Cyber Crime has already been introduced from the current session and ours is the
only college which has this course in this part of the country.
The Career Oriented courses in the subject of Cosmetology and Animation & Graphics will be
introduced from the coming session 2015-16.
10
ADMINISTRATIVE BLOCK
We have a fully automated office which has dedicated and committed administrative staff led by
Mrs. Satinder Kaur and Mr. Sohan Singh. The services of the Administrative staff are an integral
and indispensable part of the functioning of the college and a fully computerized office has made
the working of the Administrative Branch better organized and more efficient.
EXAMINATION BRANCH
The college examination branch carries out various assignments to conduct House Examinations,
University Examinations and competitive Exams. College Examination Branch conducts
September and December House Exams for annual classes & Mid - semester Exams for
Semester undergraduate & postgraduate classes on the basis of which internal assessment is
calculated and Annual Prize Distribution is held. Three Examination centres are allotted for
Semester Exams & five centres to conduct Annual Exams. Also various competitive
examinations of National and State repute are assigned to the college by the Chandigarh
Administration from time to time. Some of the important entrance examinations worth
mentioning here are Civil Services, NDA, PCS, HCS, CET, BSRB, RRB, IB, SLIET, MES,
UGC etc.
Our College Examination branch has played an important role in Online Exam system
and submitted PG & UG internal assessment through VPN for the first time with utmost
efficiency, secrecy and zero-error tolerance.
It is pertinent to state that College Examination Branch is equipped with BIZHUB-
German make Printing Machine for printing of confidential papers etc. and Examination Branch
members take extra pain to do this job which helps to save Govt. funds to the extent of 40%.
Another photocopier of better quality has been purchased this year. Revenue from other sources
such as disposal of used answer sheets is generated from time to time for improving examination
infrastructure.
With the initiative of Registrar Examination branch, list of topper students class-wise &
11
subject-wise has been prepared to guide and motivate intelligent students. College Examination
work has been successfully web-interfaced with PU-VPN for handling editing, deleting,
querying, viewing and printing reports which has substantially reduced paper work. Instead of
using conventional examination form, the college has updated online examination - form
submission in semester system. Communication gateway mechanism has been efficiently
introduced for online submission of internal Assessment in undergraduate and post graduate
classes. College has developed this software with the assistance of SPIC-MACAY (Chandigarh
Administration), and the Examination relation data has been successfully exported to Ms. Excel
format of Panjab University registration & scrutiny Branch. Online Examination cards were
successfully downloaded for UG Classes this year.

TOWARDS HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT
The college endeavours to imbibe holistic education so as to prepare the students to meet the challenges of
life. Holistic education is based on the principle that students find identity & purpose in life by connecting
to the community, nature & humanitarian values. The purpose of holistic education is not only to prepare
students for academic success, but also to enable them to meet the challenges of living as a whole (learning
about themselves, about healthy relationships, about social responsibility, compassion, collaboration rather
than competition etc)
By using real-life experiences, current events, the finer arts and audio/visual aids to substantiate textbook
information, the students are encouraged to explore and discover their potential and latent talents. As
holistic educators, we must respond to the learner’s inquisitive mind with a sensitive understanding of the
environment that he or she is maturing in. To fulfill this purpose, we have four NSS Units, NCC (Army
Wing) and various clubs, cells, societies and associations actively functioning in the college.
A detail of their activities during this session is given below:
NSS
National Service Scheme (NSS) is an initiative by the students to know the community around them,
understand their problems and offer some solutions. The motto of NSS- "Not Me But You”, reflects the
belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society. NSS
Department of PGGCG-42 is fully committed to the motto of NSS.
The college has 8 NSS units (4+4 self financed). An impressive total of 1149 volunteers registered in this
session for NSS. 450 volunteers are working in NGO’S like Salam Zindagi, Yuvsatta, Child Care, Theatre
Age, BTGT, NAB-AOF etc.
NSS touched new heights this year. Volunteer Shelly of BA III was awarded Indira Gandhi National
Award at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi by President Pranab Mukharji . She is the first NSS
volunteer of Chandigarh to be so honoured.
Shelly and Preeti were awarded the Star Girl award by MP Kiran Kher for outstanding work in
social service and for active participation in Project Uday (teaching street children).
Project Uday, is currently running at three places-Kajehari, Dhanas and PU Chandigarh. NSS
51
volunteers taught 58 children out of which, 45 have started attending schools.
PGGCG-42 became the first college in the region to conduct on the spot HIV testing of 200 NSS
volunteers in collaboration with AHF (UN funded International NGO) and Kings XI Punjab.
Under project ‘We Care For You’, 15 volunteers are involved in looking after/assist the patients in
PGI.
NSS volunteers of college are the main human resource for Pulse Polio Campaigns in the city and
they perform their duty with full responsibility.
Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, volunteers have performed sterling work in Kajheri and college
camps. Volunteers have shown their social responsibility by maintaining the public park in front of
the college.
NCC
The college has one NCC unit (Army Wing) with authorized strength of 121 cadets. The NCC
cadets participated in various activities during the session like Blood Donation Camps, rallies to generate
awareness regarding Female Foeticide, Drug Abuse among Youth, Cancer Awareness etc.
Cadet Jyoti Kaushal of Bio-Tech II has successfully performed 3 parajumps with parachute
from the height of 12 metres.
She also has the honour of winning the PU Inter Zonal Shooting Championship.
Cadet Yashasvini of BSc (Non Med) attended a mountaineering camp in May where she was
imparted training to for an expedition to Mt Everest in 2016.
Cadet Jyoti Kaushal of Bio-Tech II year has been adjudged the best NCC cadet of the
session 2014-2015 for her leadership and management qualities.
Our cadets are the official escorts of the Chief Guests and Dignitaries during all functions and remain
instrumental in maintaining discipline in the various functions of the college.
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
The ‘Ambassadors’ Alumni Association held interactive sessions wherein all the departments invited their
distinguished alumni to interact with the final year students. In these informal interactive sessions, various
issues relating to career options, procedures for applications to postgraduate classes, scope etc. are
discussed at length. Emphasis is laid on honing communicative skills, computer skills and how to conduct
52
one-self during interviews. A cultural programme is also organized every year by the association.
The Alumni Association invited Dr Preet Arora, a distinguished alumna of the college who has been a
recipient of Rajiv Gandhi Excellence Award. Her books titled “Hasta Upvan”, “Hindi Utsavi Preetambri”
were released in the annual alumni association function. She encouraged the students to read and write as
reading is the window to the world and makes you open minded and fit to face the challenges.
THE AMBASSADORS (Alumni Association) is an open group on Facebook where a novel effort has been
made to initiate debates and discussions on social issues. Some alumni respond enthusiastically on a
regular basis.
ENVIRONMENT SOCIETY
‘SRISHTI’ -- the Environment Society of the college, celebrated ‘Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas’ with
Energy Conservation Campaign & spread the message through posters, slogan writing & essay writing
contests. Ozone protection day was observed in the college with a lecture on Global Environment issues &
documentary on Global Warming. Awareness was generated amongst the general public about the
relevance of ‘Anti-cracker and Pollution Free Diwali’. The society organized Tree Plantation at the Herbal
Garden in the college campus on the occasion of Independence Day.
AIDS AND HEALTH AWARENESS SOCIETY
The AIDS and Health Awareness Society has been actively involved in organizing activities for
spreading awareness about the causes and remedy of various diseases like Cancer, AIDS, Ebola,
Swine Flu, women health care etc. The society also arranges lectures on general topics pertaining to
health like obesity, drug abuse, alcoholism, breast feeding and the importance of a balanced, healthy
diet. The society is also instrumental in organizing motivational eye donation & blood donation
campaigns in the college on a regular basis.
53
WOMEN CELL, GENDER EQUITY AND
NON-DISCRIMINATION SOCIETY
The emerging need of present times necessitates girls to be aware, make informed choices and develop self-
respect. This year Women Cell organized highly interactive, energetic and participatory activities to
generate awareness and sensitize girls towards gender biased and discriminating society. The major focus
has been on teamwork, cooperation and positive approach. The women cell in collaboration with an NGO
Sanjh Jagori, Chandigarh facilitates Youth Adalat every Friday. This process is participatory and is an open
forum to talk about issues and concerns paramount to young adolescent girls. The students of our college
joined the global campaign ‘One Billion Rising’ to raise their voice against all forms of violence against
women and children. 220 girls performed a flash mob at four different locations in the city with panache
and exuberance.
COMMUNITY SERVICE INITIATIVE
Addressing the need of community service, our girls have been actively involved in the following
activities during this session:
The Pulse Polio immunization drive.
Participation in flash mob as part of a campaign ‘One Billion Rising’ to create awareness about
women and gender related issues at PGGCG 42, PGGCG-11,Elante Mall, Sec 17, PU campus. This
