T-Net’s Mission and Vision

... to coach pastors and church leaders to finish the Great Commission in their own congregations, their own regions, and in every country of the world.

FINISHING the Great Commission

Christ’s last words to the church were the Great Commission –“Go and make disciples of all nations!” That command was meant to be finished, and Jesus promised that it would be finished. Mt. 24:14 states, “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations and then the end shall come.”

The early church understood that this command was meant to be finished. Jesus disciples traveled to the ends of the earth and all but one, the Apostle John, died a martyr’s death thousands of miles from Jerusalem. Paul even stated that he had finished this command from Jerusalem to the Adriatic Sea. But after the first century, Christians seem to have forgotten Christ’s command and have focused more on building their own church than on finishing Christ’s Great Commission to make disciples of all peoples.

After 2000 years, why have we not already finished the Great Commission?

No Responsibility – Most churches and denominations practice “FUBU” (For Us By Us). They do not take responsibility for anything that does not build their own local church. They have no value for finishing the Great Commission. Do you?

No Disciples – Finishing the Great Commission requires disciples, not just converts, but most churches do not know how to effectively transform converts into disciples, so churches are limited to what the pastor and a few leaders can do by themselves. Have you ever been trained how to make the kind of disciples Jesus made?

T-Net College of Pastoral Leadership 2 2013-14 Handbook

No Strategy – While a few churches have a strategy to saturate their neighborhood plus a few remote places, hardly any have a strategy to reach the entire world. If you could reach the entire world, would you be interested?

To obey our Father and finish the Great Commission we face the following overwhelming challenges:

Train 1 million pastors to make disciples Plant an additional 13 million Disciplemaking

churches Make 700 million new disciples of Jesus Christ Then, each disciple must share Christ with 10

friends

Over the past decade TNET has expanded its focus beyond US churches to the many developing nations of the world where TNET trains pastors who otherwise have limited opportunities for training in Bible study methods and ministry skills. Instead of simply training pastors to transform their churches, TNET trains them to train other pastors to do that, and to multiply. It is the simple principle found in 2 Tim. 2:2, “Teach faithful men who can teach others also.” TNET saw this work in the Philippines, then India, then Zambia, then in country after country with ministry multiplying by 50% to 100% a year so that in only 10 years TNET was in 24 countries.

TNET leaders realized that in any country, this kind of multiplication could actually finish the Great Commission if that multiplication continued through only 7 generations and this could be done in less than 20 years.

The Vision of T-Net International

1. To send a trainer to start a training center for disciplemaking pastors in each of the 230

countries of the world.

2. To train the first 20-30 pastors in that country to become a team to finish the Great Commission

there.

3. To coach these pastors to train succeeding centers through 7 generations of training until:

Every neighborhood is saturated with disciplemaking churches

Every person has been invited to trust Christ as savior and

Every willing convert is in an intentional disciplemaking process that leads to full maturity

And the Great commission is finished!

T-Net College of Pastoral Leadership 3 2013-14 Handbook

The History of T-NET International

The vision for T-NET began with Bill Hull a pastor committed to returning his church and others to their disciplemaking roots. While establishing his own church in disciplemaking, Bill wrote several books showing how the gospels describe in detail Jesus own method of making disciples and how we can use His method. Hull brought in church consultant, Bob Gilliam, to develop the process for instructing churches and in 1991 T-NET (short for Training Network) was born. Nurtured under the umbrella of the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) T-NET is now an independent interdenominational ministry.

The method Hull and Gilliam would use was to gather several churches each bringing a group of their own leaders to be challenged, inspired, and instructed in making disciples Jesus’ way. They began with three centers involving 42 churches. Then in 1998 Bob Gilliam took over as President while Bill Hull returned to the pastorate. T-NET continued to expand and develop under Bob’s leadership. “As we have progressed over the last 12 years,” Gilliam says, “we have learned a great deal about what works and what

doesn’t in helping churches bring people to fullness in Christ.” Consequently the program has changed considerably over the years with eleven revisions incorporating new insights both from lessons learned in T-NET churches as well as those gleaned from other ministries.

Since T-NET helps churches apply biblical principles it is equally applicable to independent Bible churches, Charismatic churches or churches from mainline denominations. Over 1200 churches in North America have completed T-NET's US training which now serves under the name “DisciplePath Church Training.”

In 1999 Bob Gilliam was invited to take T-NET to India. There, he began a similar process of learning what principles were applicable in that setting. Since then T-NET has continued to expand its focus beyond US churches to the many developing nations of the world where T-NET trains pastors who otherwise have limited opportunities for training in Bible study methods and ministry skills.

Instead of simply training pastors to transform their churches, T-Net trains international pastors to train other pastors, and to multiply. It is the simple principle found in 2 Tim. 2:2, “Teach faithful men who can teach others also.” T-NET saw this work in India, the Philippines, then Zambia, then in country after country with ministry multiplying by 50% to 100% a year so that in only 10 years T-NET was in 24 countries. T-NET leaders realized that in any country, this kind of multiplication could actually finish the Great Commission if that multiplication continued through only 7 generations and this could be done in less than 20 years. This continues to be the focus and strategy of T-NET International.

TNET Strategy - Theological Education by Extension

T-Net College of Pastoral Leadership has a unique strategy and role in Theological Education by Extension. T-Net’s goal and strategy is entirely focused on Finishing the Great Commission of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20) in each nation of the world by empowering indigenous pastors. T-Net is NOT in competition with traditional Bible Colleges and Seminaries. In fact, T-Net’s core materials have been taught at a Masters and Doctoral level by several of the most prominent evangelical seminaries in the world – Bethel Seminary, Columbia International University, Dallas Theological Seminary, Trinity Divinity School, Western Theological Seminary, West Africa Theological Seminary, Hindustan Bible Institute and many more. Therefore, T-Net offers only two degrees that are complimentary to those offered by other institutions - a Bachelor of Arts in Ministry (B.A.Min) for those with a high school diploma and a Master of Arts in Ministry (M.A.Min) for those who already have a Bachelor degree. Or, pastors can participate in our training on a certificate level.

T-Net’s College of Pastoral Leadership curriculum has been used by thousands of pastors spanning over 50 denominations in 25 countries. It has been endorsed by Equipping the Saints Worldwide ministry of Africa and SE Asia. T-Net International has partnered with Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru) in both Africa and South America and is a charter member of T.O.P.I.C. (Training of Pastors International Coalition).

There is no other way we can finish the Great Commission. If we wait for schools to train all the pastors needed, we will never have enough schools nor will we have enough pastors who can afford to attend those schools. That is why the majority of pastors in your country have never attended a Seminary or Bible School. We need a way to train pastors who then will train other pastors who in turn will train other pastors. Let us show you how that can look, if we were to take it seriously and determine to multiply in this fashion. That means we will train you and at

T-Net College of Pastoral Leadership 5 2013-14 Handbook

the same time train you to train others. After five courses, we will have equipped you to train a small group of pastors just as you are being trained.

What are the benefits?

T-Net College of Pastoral Leadership 6 2013-14 Handbook

Cameroon, Africa is an Illustration of the T-Net Training Process

Step One: In the first 16 months a proven practitioner trained the first students in Courses 1 through 4, one week each by returning every four months. The students implemented what they had learned and prepared to teach others.

Step Two: After Course five the first generation students/pastors started 14 second-generation centers with 148 new pastors/students. They continued as student in Courses 6 -10 while also team teaching the second generation in Courses 1 - 5.

Step Three: As the first generation students finished Course Ten the fourteen second generation center students launched 21 third generation centers, with 288 new students.

Step Four: The 21 third generation centers are in the process of multiplying to 60 fourth generation centers with 325+ new students. They have also already started training in Togo and Benin and are working toward launching training in Niger. All are fully funded from within, have a business plan, an indigenous board and a national director.

Multiplication Continues!

Here are the results after 4 years, from the first 16 graduates and their 16 churches:

• Over 1700 new conversions (an average of 26 new believers per church, per year)

• 136% numerical growth, on average

• 226% increase in weekly giving (Praise God!)

• 116 new “disciple-making”

groups with 50% of church

attendees in groups

When the current 500+ churches in

T-Net International Training

Centers in Cameroon graduate,

there will be 3,492 new disciple-

making small groups and 147,492

new salvations!!! But their goal is

not 500 churches. It is 18,000

disciple-making churches in

Cameroon!!!

What Others Say About T-NET

"Bill (Hull, founder of T-NET Int'l) understands that the way to grow healthy, balanced churches is through a people-building process, rather than church programs. Listen and learn from him!"

- Rick Warren, Saddleback Community Church, Mission Viejo, CA

"I don't know of anyone who has written more, worked more, and created more tools for helping churches make disciples than Bill Hull. His life's mission is to help return the church to its disciple making roots. Go with him on a journey that could transform your ministry."

- Dr. John Maxwell, President INJOY Ministries

"Leadership is passed on from one leader to others. It is modeled . . . T-NET uses an approach which trains a team of leaders in your church over a long period of time. It is not just a seminar, but a training process to equip and coach leaders until your church has an ever expanding team of disciplemakers."

- Dr. Howard Hendricks, Dallas Theological Seminary

"T-NET is the most church-friendly, lay-involved, disciplemaking spiritual growth program that I have encountered. This is more than a program – it gets lay leaders involved in the purpose of the church. Examine T-NET; it works because it makes sense."

- Dr. Kenneth Meyer, former Chancellor, Trinity International University "I am convinced, from close observation and through the many testimonials from churches, that T-NET is in the forefront of disciplemaking ministries. Many such programs make large claims, but fail to deliver. T-NET is organized in such a way that it continues to evaluate itself and thereby regularly improves its effectiveness. It is a user friendly, hands on program that is changing the nature of churches. I had opportunity to personally witness the effectiveness of T-NET. I was present for all of the sessions during the initial two-year training program here in Dallas, Texas. There were more than twenty churches involved. In my years of ministry as a senior pastor and a teacher of pastors, I have seen many people start with enthusiasm and then quickly lose interest. I was amazed to see the same people returning for the sessions during the entire two-year process. Their zeal was contagious and the result of the program in these churches was excellent. I am pleased that T-NET is an international organization. I believe that the program is transferable to a world-wide ministry helping churches fulfill the Great Commission."

- Dr. John W. Reed, Director of D. Min Program, Dallas Theological Seminary and Senior Professor of Pastoral Ministries, Emeritus

New Doctor of Ministry and Masters Degrees

The Minnesota Graduate School of Theology (MGST) and T-Net College of Pastoral Leadership

has approved the creation of a new program of study for T-Net Training Center graduates called

Organizational Management for Ministry Multiplication. The goal of this degree is to improve

the management and multiplication of T-Net Training Centers and the resulting disciplemaking

church plants for the entire T-Net process through 7 generations in each country. It will

address functional issues of leadership, management and financial accountability.

Our T-Net Training Centers focus on making our students effective as disciplemaking pastors

who apprentice church planters. The Organizational Management for Ministry Multiplication

program will focus on making successful disciplemaking pastors effective as overseers of an

expanding network of disciplemaking churches and new church plants. Those who have

graduated with a Master of Ministry degree can take this program to earn a Doctor of Ministry

while those who have graduated with a T-Net Bachelor of Ministry degree can take this

program to earn a Master’s degree. The following outline will give an overview of what has

been approved:

Prerequisites:

Successful completion/implementation of the T-Net College of Pastoral Leadership Training Center Degree Program. No student can apply for the DMin without the successful completion of the 10 Course T-Net Training Center program of study.

Continued proven effectiveness in multiplication of T-Net trainers and training centers.

Continued proven effectiveness as a disciplemaking pastor or overseer.

Continued integrity as outlined in the qualifications listed in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus.

Academic Issues:

Current MA.Min graduates have 60 graduate level credits banked toward a further degree. These credits form the foundation of the DMin by providing 60 of the 90 credit hours required for the degree.

Students must take an additional 30 academic hours to complete the DMin. These will be a combination of 8-12 courses of studies (24 hours) and a project demonstrating and documenting successful multiplication of Training Centers and church plants to 3 or more generations (6 hours).

Each course will likely be 2 or 3 credit hours depending on the amount of material covered in each course.

Those who have the T-Net BAMin will be able to obtain a MA.Min by completing the

same 30 hours described above (30 hours being the minimum number of hours required

for a Master’s Degree).

Grading and Graduation Requirements:

Course Grading: Each course will have a 1) Certification Test, 2) appropriate course assignments to help students apply the course content, 3) final Course Grading Sheets, 4) Data Sheets specific to the multiplication of church plants and Generations of Training Centers, 5) Portfolio Projects will be added to courses where possible in order to provide ways to demonstrate the student’s proficiencies to others outside of T-Net.

Project Description and Grading: Six hours are dedicated to the degree project. This project must be designed primarily for the results it produces – the multiplication of disciplemaking churches and generations of T-Net Training Centers. This is the most important component of the student’s DMin portfolio. It must be designed to demonstrate effectiveness in organizational management and ministry multiplication. It will require a greater emphasis on data management and analysis than on writing ability. It is a documentation of successful implementation of a most difficult and rarely achieved mandate, the multiplication of disciples beyond one or two generations.

Graduation: Students must successfully pass a comprehensive exam and submit to an

outside review of the final project and an interview by a committee of three members

made up of T-Net country staff and program graduates. The student will be prepared to

explain the final project to a committee and respond to questions regarding the project

and any issued raised by the comprehensive exam.

Implementation Time-line: The goal is to begin offering courses by spring of 2014

Policies and Pricing for United States Training Centers

The T-Net College of Pastoral Leadership has been training thousands of pastors in over 27

countries of the world for more than a decade. Now, recent immigrant and minority pastors

within the United States have expressed interest in going through the 10 Course T-Net Training

Center process and earning Bachelor or Master degrees through T-Net’s associate school

relationship with Minnesota Graduate School of Theology. The following outlines the pricing

and policies that are needed to adapt this program to the United States context:

Policies:

1. The International Ten Course T-Net Training Center curriculum must be taught and implemented as written unless exceptions are spelled out in this handbook statement.

2. Students must train Church Planters and plant churches to graduate, but they do not have to recruit and train other pastors, as stated in the curriculum, to earn a degree.

3. All training must always be done in the language of the trainer. If there is no experienced trainer that speaks the language of the class, a qualified bilingual student must be chosen, trained in each class, and must apply the class before teaching it- which will take several months. Then he will be the presenter to the rest while his (English-speaking) mentor is present to answer questions and give guidance.

4. The Senior Pastor of a church must be a student in good standing for an Associate Pastor or other leaders to participate in the Training Center. Assignments within the training program require implementation of disciplemaking ministries within the church. The participation and cooperation of the Senior Pastor is mandatory to avoid misunderstanding, conflict or the appearance of insubordination.

5. Courses will usually be taught on Saturdays or three evenings a week for 5-6 consecutive

weeks.

Pricing:

1. As an Associate College of the Minnesota Graduate School of Theology (MGST), T-Net College of Pastoral Leadership will use the MGST standard course fee structure for the United States.

2. Because immigrant and minority Pastors have such a disparity of income and financial resources T-Net has made provisions to award scholarships equal to as much as 50% of the cost of each course.

3. Application fee is $50 4. Course fees will be on a per-course basis.

$75 per course for certificate

Undergraduate Credits (Bachelor Level) – $25 per credit hour or $300 for a 12 credit-hour course ($150 per course with the 50% Scholarship Award)

Graduate Credits (Masters Level) – $35 per hour or $420 for a 12 credit-hour course ($210 per course with the 50% Scholarship Award)

T-Net College of Pastoral Leadership 2013-14 Handbook 37

5. The cost of student manuals is covered by the tuition payment – a $30-50 value for each of the 10 Courses.

6. Students will be set up for monthly payments to avoid the hardship of large lump-sum payments. Example: BA Level, three courses per year would cost only $37.50 per month with the 50% scholarship. Even without the scholarship the most a Master’s level student would pay for the full degree is $4200 in tuition. This is due, in part, that our trainers volunteer or raise missionary funding to serve and our facilities provided for free by participating or supporting churches. Our administrators also raise missionary funding so that no costs are passed along to students in developing countries, and therefore, to minority and immigrant pastors in the United States of America.

7. Graduation fee is $200

Implementation Time-line: The goal is to begin offering courses by spring of 2014
