Brief Sketch
The Maulana Azad College of Arts, Science & Commerce was established in 1963
by Late Dr. Rafiq Zakaria (Ex- Minister and M.P.), eminent scholar, freedom
fighter, crusader of Hindu Muslim unity and internationally known intellectual. His
successor Madam Fatma Rafiq Zakaria is now leading the caravan. She was
conferred the Padmashri award in 2006 for her outstanding contributions in the
field of education. The Maulana Azad College was assessed by NAAC as “A”
Grade in 2004. The college sought the NAAC Re-Accreditation Cycle- II and
already have submitted the RAR in December 2014. The NAAC peer team is
expected to visit the college next month.
The college is the first amongst all the affiliated colleges of Dr. Babasaheb
Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad, to have been awarded Grade “A”
by NAAC. The college is a minority institution situated in the backward region of
Marathwada. The college was rated as the first in the jurisdiction of Dr. Babasaheb
Ambedkar Marathwada University in affiliation inspection and has got the
distinction of securing highest marks in 2010. The college is ISO 9001:2008
certified institution since 2011. During the current year the college got award of
Ideal Examination Centre from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University,
Aurangabad. The college is known for providing quality education and the students
regularly appears in the merit list of the university.
The college is seeking financial assistance from UGC under XII plan period for
College with Potential for Excellence (CPE). The college is committed to observe
continual improvement in all the activities it undertakes and shall continue its
journey of excellence, if the financial assistance is made available from UGC
under CPE scheme.

Annexure II-A
1. ICT Enabled Teaching:
With the introduction of computers in education arena the process ofteaching learning has became more accessible and interactive. Upgradingthe technological developments pertaining to teaching methodologiesmakes it easier to explain difficult concepts. Pictorial depiction of conceptswith smart contents will help in long term retention and easy grasping.Installation of virtual labs in college will also enhance the learning skills ofstudents. Smart boards and projectors help in depicting animated versionsand help the students to work on their own.
Proposed action

2. Improving the soft skills of the students:
The soft skill training will develop proficiency in the students. Learning atechnology is easy but having the mindset to apply it, the logic to process itare the critical skills. Hence the students need to be trained in activelistening, critical thinking, complex problem solving and decision making.A rigorous training in the enhancement of the soft skills is also required.Scenario and problem based learning will also enhance the skills of thestudents to handle difficult situations.

3. Improving the skills of instrument handlingAurangabad district is included in the DMIC by government of India and newindustries and pharmaceuticals will be established in near future. There will be aneed for learned and skilled men power. Considering this need new instrument andtechnology handling will help the students getting jobs and better placements.Proposed action
i. Purchase of new instruments based on recent technology.ii. Organizing demonstration, seminars of instrument handling by
the resource persons from the industries.iii. Frequent Industrial visits.iv. Hands on training in the laboratories.v. Computer software related to instruments will be trained.
4. Orienting towards the Industry /Entrepreneurship:The prescribed syllabi for undergraduate courses in Science and Commercefaculties offer theoretical knowledge which has to be consistentlysupplemented through constant application. When a concept is taughttheoretically, a parallel demonstration or explanation covering the practicalaspect of the same will be carried out. Hands on training to all the studentswill make them well equipped. Hands-on training gives the students anopportunity to perform the task which they have been learning. It providesreal world experience by allowing the students to get their hands directly onwhatever is being learnt, creating a sense of empowerment. Students can betrained to the profession and their entrepreneur skills be developed throughtraining sessions.

Annexure II-B1. Enhancing soft skills:
Textual knowledge alone is not sufficient for the success of the students.They require quite a bit of training and exposure to face challenges andtough situations. Hence we propose to train them in soft skills, basiccorporate etiquettes, research, and scenario based learning and problemsolving. We would also provide them an ambient research atmospheremaking them think, talk and perform research.
Proposed action:

2. Upgrading Teaching Methodologies:
In the changing economics and education environment students need to beexposed to the latest technological innovations in the teachingmethodologies. The use of the latest pedagogy alsoprovides space for student centric learning. The use of power points,pictorial depictions, animations help the students to understand theconcepts better and retain it for longer period of time.

i. To install SPSS in the business lab and carryout social scienceresearch projects.

There is a paucity of e-learning contents for post graduation and research.The development of e-contents studio shall help in creating and maintainingthe contents in the form of lectures, presentations, animated learning tool,virtual class, e-tutorials etc.Proposed actions:

3. Process development for API impurities
The process development which is commercially viable is always welcome by thebulk drug and API manufacturers. Aurangabad is becoming the hub ofpharmaceutical industry and there is a growing demand for process development.The college has recognized research centre in Chemistry which may act as aresearch laboratory developing API process and impurities.
Proposed action:i. Survey of pharmaceutical companies who needs process
development.ii. Design and finalization of drug / API process route.
iii. Development of impurities.iv. Delivery of process and impurities.

The natural resources are not unlimited. The extensive usage of naturalresources not only depletes them but harms the environment too.
