During this time people were just discovering North America

This is considered the beginning of colonial times because the first colony was established

The colonies begin fighting to break free from the king and establish America

The North and South are fighting over slavery and about states rights

The Wright Brothers fly the first plane in Kitty Hawk, NC

People were fighting to end segregation

• We will be using a special collection found at a website called Documenting the American South.
