TO: CASBO Membership

FROM: Mark Wilsey, 2013 CASBO President,

Bert Huszcza, CASBO Executive Director

& the CASBO Board of Directors

DATE: June 1, 2013

SUBJECT: 18th Annual CASBO Fall Conference

CASBO will be holding its 18th

Annual Fall Conference at the Keystone Lodge, September 4-6, 2013. The

activities will begin on Wednesday September 4th with the “Welcome Hospitality Receptions” by our

“Prestigious Partners” where you can interact with our active and associate membership in a casual setting.

The value of the 18th Annual CASBO Fall Conference can’t be beat! This conference has 10.5 hours of

direct professional development in sessions targeted at improving your effectiveness within your job, as well as

numerous opportunities to network with your peers from across the state who are dealing with the same fiscal

and operational challenges. Be a hero and discover a great new idea from another CASBO member to bring

back to your district that saves money, improves a process or adds a needed service to your organization.

School District budgets are tight yet professional learning opportunities are important now more than

ever. Consider the following ideas to help bring down the costs:

Book at the Inn or Share a room. The hotel rates in 2013 are the same as in 2008! You’ll be so busy

attending sessions, breakouts, and social activities that you’ll hardly be in your room anyway! You

could stay at the affordable Inn at Keystone. Cut hotel costs even further by sharing a room or sharing

a Two Bedroom Condominium with colleagues who are also attending the Conference. Check out

page 2 for a list of lodging options

Need to attend to district matters? Free wireless is available in the hotel rooms at the Keystone

Lodge.

Be creative on possible funding sources. Consider possible sponsors within your District or vendors.

Use the Park-n-Ride and Carpool to Keystone. There are many locations to meet and share a ride

with your colleagues. If you live in the Denver metro area, you can also drive up for the day and save

on lodging costs.

To register for the 18th Annual Fall Conference, just complete the registration form on line.

Sincerely,

Mark Bert Mark Wilsey Bert Huszcza

CASBO President CASBO Executive Director

THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING CASBO!

“Cloud Computing”

Presented by: Ryan Rose, Director of Information Technology,

University of Northern Colorado

Cloud computing is so named because the

information being accessed is found in the

"clouds", and does not require a user to be in a

specific place to gain access to it. School

Districts may find that cloud computing allows

them to reduce the cost of information

management, since they are not required to

own their own servers and can use capacity

leased from third parties. Additionally, the

cloud-like structure allows companies to

upgrade software more quickly.

“Professional Ethics:

A 'Preventive Maintenance' Approach”

Presented by: Christopher Bauer

This won’t be a review of the ethics code, case studies, or case law! Instead, it will be a unique program

designed to help assure that you and your entire organization are able to more easily “walk the talk” of great

ethics. This often-humorous program will show us ethics risks we never even knew we had and what can be

done right now to make sure those risks don’t turn into costly ethical and legal problems on the job.

Ethics and fun aren’t words you normally hear in the same sentence. However, Dr. Christopher Bauer has

been making professional ethics both straightforward and fun for international audiences for more than 25

years. He will present ethics differently than you have probably ever experienced them before. The tone will

be conversational and the ideas immediately applicable. You will leave with easy, practical ideas and tools

to reduce your risk for ethics difficulties while simultaneously reducing the risk of your colleagues,

coworkers and entire organizations
