After successful mating and leak check

Col-CC • supported commanding of Columbus

into Berthed Survival Mode • performed Columbus final activation• provided support to the on-board crew

for Columbus and rack outfitting • started commissioning of system and

payloads• supported activation of external

payloads EuTEF and SOLAR

Col-CC started operations of the Columbus module

in February 2008 and performs the following tasks:

• Controls Columbus around the clock: 24 hours per day, 7 days per week

• Performs communications to the on-board crew for activities performed in the Columbus module

• Controls stowage in Columbus• Coordinates operations with Mission

Control Centre Houston and Huntsville• Plans all activities performed in

Columbus• Performs payload coordination with

USOCs (User Support and Operations Centres) distributed throughout Europe

• Col-CC is supported by engineering teams at Col-CC, Bremen and Turino and by ground system operations

Col-CC • controls the Columbus on-board systems to provide a safe and

comfortable environment for the crew and to provide necessary support for the ESA and NASA payload facilities

• This is achieved by monitoring and configuring, by remote command, the following subsystems: – Power System– Environmental Control and Life Support System

• Air conditioning (oxygen)• Temperature control for cabin• Humidity regulation• Shell heaters

– Thermal System• Water loop, water pump to cool equipment and racks

– Data Management System– System to Payload interfaces

• Col-CC performs preventive system maintenance• Supports repair and replacement of system components

Col-CC performs Columbus system reconfiguration to support docking / undocking of visiting vehicles

• ATV docking 3 Apr 08, undocking 5 Sep 08

• STS 122-128 except 125• Activation of the Japanese modules • Soyuz docking• Progress docking• HTV

• Upgrade of Columbus on-board software to the next revisions (Cycle 11 in 2008, Cycle 12 in Oct 2009) in close cooperation with the crew, engineering teams, and the other MCC

• Supported repair of ESA payloads in Columbus • Supported payload operations and performed payload

monitoring

One year of operations resulted in

• 36500 commands to Columbus

• 2.2 million lines of code

• 213 CHITs

• 41 integrated anomalies• 420 Columbus anomalies

• Col-CC Stand-alone Simulations: 25

• European Simulations: 70

• Simulations with NASA: 50
