Research When I started researching into different films and their ways of advertising, I found that most of the products are linked in some way.The most common way I saw was the main character(s) in the film were the main image on the posters. This can be seen by the pictures underneath which are of the Friday the 13th film poster and a scene from the films itself. As can be seen the main antagonist ‘Jason’ is in the film and the main image on the poster.

In order to be successful like the other real media pieces, I knew I would have to follow the same pattern and use similar images through my different pieces of work. This can be seen when looking at my production and my film poster. I did not use the exact same image for the poster and the production but when taking the picture for the poster, I made sure that the antagonist was wearing the same clothes and doing the same stance as he was in the filming for the production as I thought that the shrugged shoulders gives the antagonist some character.

At first I had chosen to use almost the same picture for the magazine front cover however I thought that it would be too repetitive and decided to use a different shot.

I used the antagonist across all platform to create a strong brand identity, so that when the audience would see the antagonist, they would automatically associate it with The outsider film. As pointed out on the slide before, the picture on the poster is not actually from the film trailer, but the antagonist is doing the same stance and wearing the same clothes, however the picture on the magazine front cover is a shot straight from the film trailer.

Themes and coloursNow, for my production, I tried to challenge the convention of making a horror film be filmed at night and in the dark, so the colouring does actually differ. The colours from the actual production and the magazine front cover are the same as the picture on the front cover is straight from the film trailer itself, however the colours that I used on the poster are completely different. I decided to use dark colours on my poster, not to link with the film but to blend the antagonist in with the background as much as possible. I did this because the whole point of the home invasion is not being spotted into the moment you introduce yourself to the home owners. So the dark is more for how the protagonist in the film see him (not until he has broken in) because he can stay hidden

Text and TitlesWithin all of the platforms, the name of the production is always in the same font and the same colour. This font was not a default font so I feel that when the audience see this type of font they will immediately relate it to my production.
