LENTEN CONFESSION NIGHT
MASS INTENTIONS
SENIOR MEN’S HIGHSCHOOL RETREAT Date: Saturday, March 17, 2018: 9:00a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: St. Augustine’s Seminary
Address: 2662 Kingston Rd., Scarborough, ON M1M 1M3
Deadline for online registration is Monday, March 12, 2018
Please note: Registrants 16 & 17 years old will require parental
consent
How do we “Live the Gospel” toward others when our daily lives
are so busy? For some it's volunteering at a soup kitchen, or it may
be caring for an elderly relative. If we do not have the time to
actively participate, we can support the many ShareLife-funded
agencies within our community that bring the hands of Christ to
those in need. Next Sunday is the first ShareLife collection. Over
the next week, reflect on your ability to help “Live the Gospel”
through Catholic agencies, and make a decision to support our
ShareLife parish campaign.
Next Sunday, March 18 is ShareLife Sunday. Please give
generously. Our goal this year is $57,000.
Come and See Weekend – Friday, March 23
(begins at 6:30 p.m.) to Sunday, March 25
(ends at 1:30 p.m.), at St. Augustine’s
Seminary: Inviting single Catholic men 17 years
and older, to cultivate a deeper prayer life and relationship with
Jesus Christ; leading to a better discernment of God’s call for their
lives. Time for prayer, reflection and information on the process
of becoming one of Christ’s disciples as a Catholic priest.
Register online at www.vocationstoronto.ca. Registrants 17
years old require parental consent.
For more information, please contact (the Parish Priest) or the

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Is it possible to learn new things about my present and
future life? God has already revealed everything we need to know
about our present and our future through Divine
Revelation and the Church; anything else He wants to tell
us comes to us via prayer and spiritual discernment. In
other words, God has already established safe channels for
us to pursue when we seek answers to life's questions.
Some people use other practices to shed light on their
present and future life. Is this safe?
These practices are call divination, an activity that seeks
to obtain hidden knowledge or information from sources
outside the material world: sources such as angels,
demons, and deceased humans. Divination differs from
prayer in that it goes outside the natural ways God reveals
His will to us. It seeks to take short cuts around God's plan
and obtain answers to our questions without going first to
God or to the angels and saints who intercede for us.
The practice of divination began in ancient times, but
there are many popular methods still in use today. Some
of the more prevalent forms include Ouija Boards,
spiritistic séances, palm reading, numerology, tarot card
reading, fortune telling, psychic hotlines, tea leaf reading,
crystal gazing, certain forms of witchcraft, magical
incantations, sorcery and astrological horoscopes. Each of
these activities seeks to acquire either information about
the future, knowledge beyond a person's natural abilities
or power outside God's providence.
Divination, even if done in ignorance or for fun, is a
way of stepping outside God's plan for us. If done
deliberately, with full knowledge and consent of the will,
then the offender is guilty of grave sin.
I thought that Ouija board is a harmless game?
No. The Ouija board is far from harmless, as it is a form
of divination. The fact of the matter is, the Ouija board
really does work, and the only "spirits" that will be
contacted through it are evil ones.
It’s true that many people view the Ouija board as
harmless and they don’t believe in it. However, a disbelief
in something does not necessarily mean that something
isn’t real. The Ouija board has an objective reality that
exists apart from a person’s perception of it. In other
words, it’s real even if you don’t believe in it.
The Lord repeatedly condemns any and all occultic
practices, including divination. "Let no one be found
among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire,
who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens,
engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does
these things is detestable to the Lord" (Dt 18:10–12).
Church’s exorcists investigating supernatural
phenomena from a Catholic perspective have gone so far
as to say that 90 percent of their very worst cases involving
demonic activity have been linked to the use of the Ouija
board.
First Communion There will be no classes on March 17th for March Break and
classes will resume on March 24th.
Confirmation Reminder that there is no class until April 9/10. Sponsors are
invited to attend the class on this date with the Confirmandis.
If you have not handed in your Letter of Intent or Sponsor’s
paperwork, it is now overdue. Please drop off any outstanding
paperwork a.s.a.p.
