Learning News Bendigo Bank Night Market Yr5/6 Congratulations to the Yr 5/6 children on their extremely successful night market. Everyone had a magnificent evening. The evening raised over $1700 and the students will now be discussing how they will be using the money they have raised. Thank you to all of the families from across the school who attended and made this a wonderful experience for the Yr5/6 business owners. I would also like to thank the Bendigo Bank for sponsoring the event and Ms Murphy for bringing this real life project to fruition. This project is a wonderful example of learning with purpose and a true audience. We will keep you informed about the decision making process around the profits. Please see photos. Dome excursion Yr 5/6 I was privileged to spend some time in the Dome with the Year 5/6 children on Tuesday morning. Inside the dome we learnt about the creation of our universe, the planets and the environment of the world. It was a wonderful experience and a great jumping off platform for the Inquiry unit “ Earth’s Place in Space”, it was very similar to being at the Planetarium. 2020 Planning and Grade Placement 2020 Planning is well underway for 2020. If you have a Prep child attending in 2020 it is imperative that we have your enrolment now. We are trying to secure teachers for 2020. Each year, we ask parents to inform us in writing of relevant information. Please note that this is not a teacher selection opportunity but one which may influence the children’s social and academic grouping to ensure all students’ needs are met. Whilst we cannot guarantee your requests will be met, we assure you that the information you present will be carefully considered. Requests must be made in writing and should be addressed to the Principal as follows- ‘Confidential – 2020 Grade Placement’. Requests for grade placement should be lodged at the office no later than Friday, 1 November. Any parent, who has lodged a request in a previous year, should resubmit their request in writing even if their circumstances remain unchanged. BYOD The portal for the BYOD devices for Yr 3 is now open. Please go to www.jbeducation.com.au/byod the password is ROMSEYPS2020 . It is an expectation that all Yr3 children have their own Chromebook, with the same specifications as the Chromebooks on the portal. It is now optional for Year 1/2 families to also purchase a device for their students. If you have further questions please do not hesitate to call and make an appointment.

School Matters Defibrillator The school now has its own defibrillator which is suitable for ages. It is housed in the office area. We want all families and community members to know that during school hours this machine is available if required in the school or the community. We would like to thank the Parent Committee for fundraising to purchase this valuable piece of equipment for the school and to the St John’s Ambulance association for selling it to us for a great price. Toasty Tuesday, Just a reminder that Toasty Tuesday continues all term, we would like to thank IGA for their ongoing support and donating bread each week to Toasty Tuesday and thank you to our parent volunteers. We all love Tuesday mornings. School Review Our 2017-2020 School review will take place in Term 2 next year. In preparation for the review we will be conducting a self-evaluation in Term 4 2019 and Term 1 2020. During this time we will be conducting parent and family forums and surveys in which we will be inviting all families to participate. We had a very low participation rate in the Department Parent Survey so we are hoping more families will participate and provide feedback and their aspirations for their children as we review and plan for the next 4 year Strategic Plan. We hope all families will participate at some level whether it by via surveys or at CCC meetings dates will be published in next week’s newsletter. We will keep you informed via the newsletter, Updated, and the facebook page on how you can be involved. We looking forward to hearing from everyone. If you have other ideas on how we can engage you in this process please let us know.

PARAGRAPHS The 1/2 unit has been looking at the structure of paragraphs. We start writing a paragraph by using a topic sentence. Then we add sentences that have detail to match the topic sentence. Lastly we add a concluding sentence. We used a hamburger template to help see the different parts of the structure.

Using Qkr for Excursion and Other Payments Following a number of queries from parents about Qkr we would like to remind you that:

Qkr payments for excursions and incursions etc. can only be made up to the closing date for payments as stated on the notice of the event that is sent home with students. After this date all payments must be made through the office or by phone using a credit card. (We do expect that all payments will be made by the closing date).

Partial payments cannot be made through Qkr, so if a notice says a deposit is an option you cannot make a deposit payment via Qkr, just a full payment.

DONATE YOUR SECOND HAND UNIFORMS! Do you have a child in Grade 6? Or perhaps your youngest school child has outgrown their uniforms?

The Parent Committee welcomes second hand uniforms in good condition as donations for the second hand uniform shop. This important service provides good value uniforms to the school community while raising money for our kids education at RPS. Sort through and send yours in to the office today!

Year 6 Bomber Jackets for 2020 Orders are now being taken for the 2020 Year 6 bomber jacket. Please call in to the office to see and try on the sizes available. Our preferred payment method is the Qkr app. We are planning to have the order finalised in time for delivery of jackets at the beginning of the 2020 school year so please place your order as early as possible. The cost is $56.00. Orders will not be placed unless full payment is received.

Absences: We ARE Getting Better But…. Thank you to the vast majority of parents who are now becoming much more vigilant about informing us of students absences. We are improving but we need to remind parents that any absence from school must be communicated to the office as soon as you know that your child will be away, as per Department of Education requirements. This can be done by phone, email or the UpDated app. This saves the office staff a lot of time following up unexplained absences. We don’t like having to contact you or send letters, asking for an explanation of a child’s absence.

This was an opportunity for students to have a ‘taster’ of the game of cricket and the chance to see what is done at the local club for kids aged 5-10. All students should have received a flyer with details about the Blasters programs being run at Romsey Cricket Club starting November 7

th. If they didn’t, please see the classroom
