Kingdom Minded

Introduction35 Then Jesus went about all the cities

and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.36 But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Matthew 9:35-38

Intro cont……1 And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.

7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’

8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

Matthew 10:1,7-8

Intro cont…..And Jesus came and spoke to them,

saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

Matthew 28:18-20

Everyone to be ReachedThen Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people

Romans 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.

Rev 14:6 Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people Romans 1:16 Revelation 14:6

Having CompassionBut when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd.

as it is used in the Bible means, “To be moved inwardly; to yearn with tender mercy, affection, pity and empathy.” It refers to the deepest possible feelings. To be moved in the “inner organs”. It has the same idea as our modern expression, “From the bottom of my heart.” Someone has defined compassion as “Sympathy coupled with a desire to help.” Sympathy means “The capacity to share feelings, to enter into the same feelings, to feel the same thing”. So, compassion is “sharing the feelings of others and possessing a desire to help them in their trouble.”

Matthew 9:36

Being Sent with Power 1 And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.

7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’

8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

Matthew 10:1,7-8

Holy Ghost Power Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

Dunamis inherent power, power residing in a thing by virtue of its nature, or which a person or thing exerts and puts forth

A disciple must be endued or clothed in power to do what Jesus has called us to do. A believer must have power to fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ

Luke 24:49

What to Say 7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’

Ezekiel said “Repent and turn from your transgressions” Ezek. 18:30.  John the Baptist said “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” Matt. 3:2.  Jesus said “Repent and believe in the gospel” Mark 1:15.  Peter said “Repent and be baptized” Acts 2:38.  And Paul said God “commands all people everywhere to repent” Acts 17:30.

Ezek 18:30 Matt 3:2 Mark 1:15 Acts 2:38 Acts 17:30

What to Do 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.

6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

12 And through the hands of the apostles many signs and wonders were done among the people. And they were all with one accord in Solomon’s Porch. 14 And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,

Matt 10:8 Acts 3:1-6 Acts 5:12,14

I. Instructions for the MissionA. Empowered by Christ Matt 28:18

18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.

“How easy it is to live more or less in the enjoyment of God’s free grace, and yet not realize that we are called to fulfill a divinely appointed purpose.”

Duncan Campbell

I. Instructions for the MissionB. Make Disciples Matt 28:19

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Today in the Body of Christ we are faced with a great disconnect between those who have been born again and those who have matured to become disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.

I. Instructions for the MissionC. What is a Disciple Matt 28:19

A man once toured an historic town in England.  He came across an elderly gentleman seated on a park bench and approached him to inquire about some of the town’s history.  He asked the gentleman, “Were any great men born in this town?”  The gentleman replied, “No, only babies.”  Children of God are born.  Disciples are made.  You must be born again in order to see the kingdom of God. Yet every one of us is called to be disciples of Jesus Christ and this requires nothing other than total commitment.

I. Instructions for the MissionD. What is a Disciple Matt 28:19

John 8:31: "Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, 'If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.'“

Abiding In His WordWhat does it mean to “abide in His word?” To “abide” means to continue in, not to depart from. Hence, we must continue in His word, or teachings, if we are to truly be His disciples.

II. Opposition to the MissionOpposition The Worlds Hatred John 15:18-20

“The vital Christian arouses opposition because he is a standing rebuke to the selfishness and sin of those around him.”

John Hagee

18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20 Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.

III. Encouragement to Fulfill the Mission Mutual Loyalty Matt 10:32

“A wife or husband who is 85 percent faithful to their spouse is not faithful at all. There is no such thing as part-time loyalty to Jesus Christ.”

32. Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

ConclusionIt is the intention of Jesus to attract

people to the kingdom of heaven, but never with false impressions. The way to the Kingdom is by way of the cross. Listen to the words of Christ in Matthew 16:24: “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” Christ is explicit in stating the hardships for all who accept His invitation to follow Him.
