The relentless pas- sage of time never ceases to amaze me. It is swimming pools on humid days, tree frogs, fireflies and balmy nights. August is also a time for LISSA to begin the pro- cess of nominating candidates who want to run for posi- tions on the board. All positions are open. If you want to run for a position on the board please call me or Will Kruysman. You know, if youve never run for the board, you might want to give it a try. Time, in small quantities, is the only requirement along with the desire to help in the decision making process. The BOD is part of the LISSA wheel. Our Annual Change of Watch Gala is still being dis- cussed at our planning meetings. We think a final deci- sion, as to location, will be finalized at the next planning meeting at Nocellos. We ask that you attend the next planning meeting and be part of the decision making process. The Change of Watch deposit of $10.00 will be due next month on September 7 th . We ask that all people who intend to go to please send your check, made out to LISSA, to Billy Vassel by the end of this month. Please dont wait until the last moment. If you have any questions dont hesitate to call me or Billy. Please call him to reserve by August 19 th . (See flyer for menu.) Maritime Seafood and Music Festival - The Long Island Maritime Museum has hosted this festival for 25 years. I love this one. It is a fantastic compilation of food vendors, arts and crafts, maritime history and 2 days of music. Its only $10 at the gate. Crowded as it is each year, the best way to get there is to park at the Baymen Soccer complex, located at the inter- section of Cherry Ave., and Tariff Street, and take the shuttle bus. Ive done it several times and its very easy. I trust that you will figure out how to get there and park. Heres a web link to help with the direc- tions: http://www.liseafoodfestival.org/directions.html Ill leave September events for the next Jib but, Id list them here if there were any. Suffice it to say, September is open. So, please come to the next Planning Meeting on Thursday, August 18 th . Well finalize the Change of Watch, and put a few new events on the September/October calendar. Its your wheel to turn. A gentle breeze rippled across the lake from the western shore, the pine tree tops aglow in the early morning sun. I took a deep breath, the air scented with grass and pine and the moisture from the lake. I walked softly across the dock, the sound of my foot- steps disappearing gently into the distance. I stepped into my little day-sailor and shoved off. Mornings like this are gift from God. There is now plenty of time and quietude to enjoy the world as it was meant to be. There is nothing to fight against, nothing to argue with, no reason to be at odds with anything. The boat moved easily across the lake, the gentle swish of water flowing beneath her. There is no critique, no plan. There is only sail and hull and wind. See you all - Out there

Saturday and Sunday, August 27th and 28th Maritime Seafood Festival

One of the great festivals on the South Shore. Lots of food, arts and crafts and 2 days of music. Park and take the shuttle from the Baymen Soccer Complex. See flyer.

Thanks to Jean for an excellent choice for the June Birthday Babies dinner. Harbor Mist is a beautiful res-taurant in Cold Spring Harbor with a view of the bay. Of course, Jean got us a table by the big win-dow with the best view. Fine fare to go with it. So nice, in fact, that Terry and Will went back the follow-ing Tuesday for a romantic dinner when everything on the menu was at half price. Special thanks, Jean, for introducing us to this great place. Will and Terry. Skip took us out for another great day on the Great South Bay supposedly to bring home a dinner or two of door mat fluke. Well, the day was warm, the water always the place to be and we thoroughly enjoyed the ride. Fish? We fed them well. Several young 'uns were tricked into getting hooked, but we let them swim away to get bigger for next year. Skip always gives us our money's worth, whether or not we catch a pool fish or a dinner. For that we say "thanks", and

next summer we'll be back for the ones we fattened up this year. Will After seeing "On Your Feet" on Broadway in NYC I have to recommend to you that if you have to see this fabulous musical. It is the story of Gloria Estefan, her life growing up, breaking into the 'Mambo Kings' her life on the road, struggles with her mom and her recovery from the bus accident that nearly took her life. The music, the dancing, extraor-dinary. This had a special meaning to me, as the doc-tor who performed that 9-10 surgery on her back was the same one that did for one of my best friends 15 years ago. All I can say is GO SEE IT. Cliff Rosen-berg Get well wishes to Jean Wolschlager and Paul Argen-dorf.
