The specimen you are submitting is intended to be displayed in the museum that will showcase specimens found in

and around Eastern Visayas. Consequently, the museum will be opened to the public, catering to those in the

primary and secondary schools. The College spent considerable amount of money in constructing not only the

structure housing the collection, but more expensive are the new aluminium display cabinets-almost P500,000. We

won’t allow any substandard specimen to be part of disseminating scientific information to its prospective visitors.

COMMON GROUNDS FOR REJECTION OF SPECIAL PROJECT

SPECIMEN

  Incorrect Scientific Name

Damaged specimen, inc. those with missing parts, broken appendages, cracked carapace, etc.

  Buoyant or floating specimen

  Duplication with other students

Not proportionate (Size too large or too small for container, base, or case)

Presentation of specimen, e.g. fully stretched fins for fishes, wings for insects, mirror-like positioning of legs

Incorrect placement or positioning of specimen

BOTTLE

Wrong bottle (existing plastic bottles in the museum will soon be replaced)

Leaking (make sure not to remove the thick cardboard serving as seal underneath the cap)

Rundown cap (avoid buying new bottles, but at least make sure not to submit worn out containers)

PRESERVATIVE

  Colored preservative due to leaching of specimen’s natural color...should be colorless;

Turbid preservative brought about by the reaction of the specimen with its preservative, oftentimes due to

mishandling (decaying) of specimen

Incorrect preservative level (should reach up to the middle portion of cap)

Weak Concentration (at least 70% for alcohol; 10% for formalin)

LABEL

  Incomplete information

Incorrect font type, size, and alignment

Different sequence of Data, e.g. Tacloban City, Brgy. Apitong

 Untaught label

  Blurred Print-out

  Blotched Print-out

  Crooked Print-out

  Incorrect margins

  No space after diacritical mark

  Incorrect placement of external label

  Too wide Adhesive Tape

  Crooked Adhesive Tape

Fingerprint mark or any mark on Adhesive Tape

  Bubbles on tape

PICTURE

Do not represent specimen in its NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

  Lamination too wide/narrow

  Source not cited

WOODEN BASE

Incorrect Dimensions (clarify which size is acceptable during this semester); Correspondingly , specimen size

must conform to the base’s dimension.

  Pelt paper absent

Excess portions of pelt paper seen

Note: Other reasons (not mentioned above) may come up during the submission process.
