Vision Statement:
The aquatic center exists to meet the aquatic health, safety, recreation, and competition needs for the citizens for the Dalton-Whitfield Co. area.
Mission statement:
The Dalton Parks and Recreation Department, through a coordinated effort, seeks to enrich the
quality of life of the citizens we serve by providing safe and accessible facilities and a diversified program of activities in an effective, efficient,
equitable, and responsive manner.
In short, the current facilities do not meet the programming need/demand for current population in Dalton-Whitfield County.
A new center would likely attract more participants in aquatic activities. This would help make the center a community centerpiece that could help foster economic growth in Dalton and the surrounding areas.
This plan will describe in detail what type of new center is proposed, price range for development and construction of proposed center and operational costs.
“Why Do we need a new aquatic center?”
*Focus on local need; population has outgrown
current outdated facilities; overall fitness;
competition (demand drastically outnumbers
space); outdated specks by national standards-
reduces ability to host meets (economic
development); ADA codes and Special needs
population- temperature, access, and water
depth issues must be addressed.
*Demographics (all estimates as of 1/1/12 via US
census): Population- 103,346; households-
35,369; median household income- $46,479
Products and Services: The proposed center would provide numerous products and services focusing on: Health, Safety, Recreation, and Competition. Specific areas would include the following:
*Community Health and Wellness programs along with physical therapy and rehabilitation- the physical properties of water that assist: buoyancy; reduces weight on painful joints; warm water; increases blood flow; improves flexibility; reduces swelling; offers resistive force
*Learn 2 swim programs (swim lessons)- 11 different “stages”
*Masters programs- competition and fitness aspect
*Recreation events and activities- including USA swimming, school swimming, water polo, diving, masters aquatic activities, and safety and rescue training.
