Great Lakes Equity has assisted our district focus team in developing strategic plan:• Currently working with GLE to finish strategic plan• Will assist us with Equity Context Analysis School Review (ECASR)

Dr. Muhammed and Dr. Cruz• District leadership team led a book study• PD for the district and families (team of champions from each site as well as all staff

professional development)• Focus on providing strategies to Leadership and principals (shared leadership/data)

Manny Scott• Keynote speaker for staff welcome back working with students in Survival modeimportance of an authentic relationship

Love and Logic• Staff requested Love and Logic Professional Development 9 Essential Skills for

building authentic relationships learning opportunities for our families on the 9 Essential Skills

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

ENVoY(Non-Verbal Yardsticks) Non-verbal classroom management strategies (7 gems)• All sites have received training in some capacity• Four sites working towards full implementation• Multiple sites have developed cohorts and coaches have been trained to provide

feedback to teachers• Have ENVoY and Sharrocky Hollie written into our PBIS grant proposal to help sustain

and align with PBIS• District and building PBIS teams• Cultural Proficiency Training for teachers and staff (I’m Not Your Mascot: Understanding

and Supporting American Indian Student)• American Indian Liaison is collaborating and secured professional development

CURRICULUM UPDATES• College and Career Readiness Class (Get Ready Curriculum)• College Possible• Career Surveys• American Indian Liaison with C & I Curriculum Planning (Teachers, Coaches, Media

Specialist, Instructional Coaches)• Repository of Culturally Relevant Teaching materials available with resources• Bilingual Seals• Implementation of PETS (Primary Education Thinking Skills) curriculum in grades K-2

CURRICULUM UPDATES

• Change in enrollment practices in Rochester Accelerated Math Program (RAMP) – now self selected

• Partnering with equity specialists to provide professional development for teachers in culturally responsive teaching practices

• Additional resources featuring diverse characters (CIA, Pedro Noguera collection of books in each elementary, etc)

• Greater focus on equity through math instruction – PD

• Increased course offerings (starting in 17/18) in which students can earn college credit. Many of the new course offerings are entry point project courses (meaning that 60% of the students in the course must belong to one or more of the targeted audiences – between the top 50% and top 20% of their class, multilingual/ELL students, members of racial or ethnic minorities, first generation college-bound students and/or from families of low to moderate income)

AVID (ADVANCEMENT VIA INDIVIDUAL DETERMINATION)

• Administrators, principals, teachers attended an AVID showcase at Burnsville Middle School and AVID National conference in Dallas, Texas (December 2016)

• RPS have begun the contract process with AVID

• RPS is reviewing funding options for AVID over time

• AVID elective class (grade 9) in the three high schools (JM, Century, Mayo) beginning fall 2017

• AVID elective teachers and administrators will attend the AVID summer institute summer 2017

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS AND OUTREACH• McDonald’s collaboration• Seneca Apartments summer outreach• Oak Terrace and Parkside outreach

HISTORICAL TRAUMA/ STAFF BIASDr. Hollie and Dave Wilmes:

• Racial Bias and personal/historic trauma

• Summary, both PD’s really focused on the importance of seeking to understand your students and families. Being attuned to your bias and checking your belief system…

• Both trainings stressed the importance of VABB and bi-culturalism

• Sessions have been and will be held surrounding Tier 2 and 3 supports (Restorative practices, procedures and policies)
