Thank you for choosing to fundraise for Cystic Fibrosis Community Care (CFCC). Without our supporters who work tirelessly to raise funds for us, we would not be able to provide the vital programs and services needed by people living with cystic fibrosis.

Cystic Fibrosis Community Care (CFCC) is the peak

community not-for-profit organisation working

with and for people with cystic fibrosis (CF) across

Victoria and NSW. Our mission is to assist everyone

affected by CF to be healthy and live fuller lives.

We provide information, support and guidance

to people living with CF and their families. We

advocate for services and systems that support

the CF community and we seek to raise awareness,

understanding and funds for services and research.

Over 80% of our income is from fundraising.

Ned’s StoryHi, my name is Ned and I am 10 and have

cystic fibrosis (CF). This is a photo of me

(on the left) with my brother Lucas, we are

both pretty good basketballers. There is

one year between me and my brother. We

do most things together. I was diagnosed

with CF the day after I was born. I’ve been

in and out of hospital since then. Some

years are better than others.

I like to run around and stay active and I miss playing with my brother and friends and being at

home when I have to go to hospital. I can get very anxious about having CF and what this means.

I know by keeping active I’m helping keep my lungs strong. When I do get sick, I get very tired

and I find it harder to run on the court for the whole basketball game. I do physiotherapy every

morning before school and take lots of tablets throughout the day. Sometimes I get over taking

tablets but most of the time it’s ok. I want to be an NBA player. I worry that my CF won’t let me

grow to be tall enough. I try to eat as much as I can so I’ll grow taller.

Why fundraise?

WHOYou may know someone, perhaps a friend or

family member, who has CF. However many

of our fundraisers don’t have a personal

connection but are just as passionate about our

cause. Just make sure you can tell people why

fundraising for CFCC is so important to you.

Also think about who you want to target with

your activity. If it’s a raffle at school you will

be targeting students. If it’s a golf day you are

more likely to be targeting business people.

WHATWhen deciding what to do we suggest thinking

about something fun that you would enjoy

organising. Apart from events, some people

choose to do a fundraising challenge such

as shaving their head for donations, walking

65km in a month or reading 65 books. Other

fundraisers take the form of raffles, swear

jars, bingo or cake sales. Our Community

Fundraising Coordinator can help you work

through this, so don’t feel like you need to have

all the answers.

6

CFCC needs people like you to help us raise funds; we can’t do it alone. Community

fundraising activities help to ensure our community is receiving the vital programs and

services it needs. CFCC is only 20% funded by the government and so fundraising is

super important for us. CFCC provides over 20 different programs and services from

reimbursing families for expensive physiotherapy equipment to visiting people in

hospital when they are in for a ‘tune up’.

When considering your activity there are a few things to consider...

Page 7: Community Fundraising Toolkit · and Why of fundraising 6 7 easy steps to fundraising for CFCC 8 Ideas for your fundraiser 10 Community fundraising case studies 12 Tips for fundraising

WHENTiming is very important so have a think about

how much time you will need to organise and

promote the activity. If you are promoting your

event to the broader CF community, you will

need to be aware of what other events are on

at that time. You may want your event to be

part of our 65 Roses Month when we encourage

community members around Australia to hold

fundraising and awareness raising challenges to

support the CF community.

WHYCFCC deliver over 20 programs and services to

people living with CF and their families. Your

fundraising efforts will go a long way to

ensuring these programs and services can be

continued. CFCC receive only 20% government

funding so fundraising is very important for our

community. Don’t forget the key facts about CF

on page 4 will help you explain why you are

fundraising for CFCC.

WHEREOnce you’ve got your idea the next important

step is to work out the logistics. Some things to

consider are: venue choice, venue availability,

proximity to public transport, the number of

people you expect, likely weather, costs to

hire spaces, the equipment you’ll need, crowd

safety, entertainment options and more! Our

Community Fundraising Coordinator can help

you with this too.

Seven steps of fundraising for CFCC

1Email your activity idea to CFCC

Using the Registration Form email your

fundraising idea to:

[email protected].

Please include as much information as

possible in this form so we can get a

good picture of what you have planned

and we will help you fill in any gaps.

Or call us on: (03) 9686 1811 in Victoria

(02) 8732 5700 in New South Wales

4Ensure the activity is legally sound

Check with your relevant authority and

local council to ensure that you have all

permits needed to serve food, alcohol, or

hold an event in a public place. Some raffles

also need permits so just check with CFCC

if in doubt. [email protected].

3Order resources or get help from CFCC

Remember the CFCC team are here to help.

There are a number of ways we can do this:

• Create your event on our website or

on our fundraising platform

• Provide merchandise on consignment

for you to sell

• Create social media posts around

your activity

• Provide donation tins

2Obtaining the authority to fundraise and use of the CFCC logo

CFCC will issue you with an Authority

approved. You can show this to people so

they know your activity has been approved

by CFCC and that you are fundraising

on our behalf. We will also send you this

community fundraising logo to include

collateral. Please get marketing materials

5Start promoting your activity

Spread the word far and wide to tell people

about your activity. Tell your friends, family,

colleagues, clubs, schools and local

businesses all about what you are doing and

why. Create flyers, Facebook/Instagram

posts, emails, posters and any other

promotional tools you can think of to get

the word out there.

You may also want to contact your

local paper to cover your story, raising

awareness for CF!

7

6The big day

On the day of your event make sure you

are well prepared, have enough helpers and

think about all the requirements/logistics of

your event. We have run sheets, equipment

lists, planning documents and numerous

other resources we can share with you in

the lead up to your activity. If it’s a physical

challenge, then look after yourself before,

during and afterwards. You’ve done all the

hard work so try to enjoy it!

Money matters

Community fundraisers are responsible for

all financial aspects of the activity or event,

including record-keeping, management

of funds and ensuring that all funds raised

online and offline are received by CFCC.

Your basic obligations are to ensure that:

• you keep and provide CFCC with

accurate financial records of your

fundraising activity.

• all funds raised online and offline are

received by CFCC within 28 days of

completion of fundraising.

• expenses incurred for the fundraising

event or activity do not exceed more

than 30 per cent of the total funds

raised. Please note that CFCC will

not be able to pay or reimburse any

expenses incurred.

All donations over $2 are eligible for a

tax-deductible receipt supplied by CFCC*

(conditions apply).

Elvis has left the building!Carol Bianco and friends ran A Night with an

Elvis and raised $8,600 for CFCC.

Carol and her friends started by talking to the

team at CFCC about her crazy idea of holding

a night with an Elvis impersonator. Once all the

approvals were completed she found a venue,

booked the singer and started promoting the

event. Her team of volunteers emailed friends,

family and local community members to book

tickets. They created flyers, promoted the

event on their personal Facebook pages and

also advertised at the venue. CFCC helped by

creating Facebook posts too.

“We had around 130 people present for the

night and everyone had a ball. We raised the

money from ticket sales and a raffle on the

night. It was a lot of work but really satisfying.

We’ll be doing it again in the future”.

Sydney to NewcastleBeth Peach Robinson and her partner put on their CF t-shirts, strapped on their backpacks,

and set off on The Great Northern Walk – a 268km walk from Circular Quay in Sydney to

Queens Wharf in Newcastle – all to raise funds and awareness for CFCC. They chose this

particular route as it was symbolic of the regular Newcastle to Sydney trips that a young girl

they know with CF has to make to attend clinic. Subsisting on determination, instant coffee,

freeze dried meals and the kindness of others, they walked for 12 days and raised over $3000!

Craft for a cause! As their community fundraising idea Holly, Ellie

and Lucy decided to create a series of craft items

and sell them at a stall to raise money for CFCC.

In the weeks leading up to the stall they sourced

materials and friends to help create their

items which included hair clips, drink coasters,

jewellery and lucky dip bags. The girls also sold

CFCC merchandise and collected donations in a

tin. Ellie’s mum Jennifer said “I was just so proud

of them, they worked so hard and really they

did it all themselves”.

The local paper were told of the girls plans and

decided to write a story about their good deed.

The girls raised over $200 for CFCC and a great

deal of awareness, an amazing effort!
