One of the ways we’re able to serve UMOM clients is with the proceeds raised though events and activities from community supporters like you.

We’re grateful to the many organizations who donate their time and talent to fundraise on our behalf – from individuals, families, neighborhood associations and faith groups to the business community – both small businesses and large corporations. We rely on your help as supporters and partners in our mission

to break the cycle of homelessness and couldn’t do it without you.

UMOM runs a very lean and large organization with a professional staff of 305 and a volunteer workforce of over 2,000 annually. We have 16 programs, 5 emergency shelters and 300 units of affordable housing to address all the challenges our clients are facing. Community support and fundraising is vital to our ongoing success at meeting the needs of people experiencing homelessness in our community.

UMOM restores hope and rebuilds lives by providing shelter, services and housing for families, single women, youth and veterans experiencing homelessness.

Visit our website for details on the programs we provide and other ways to support UMOM clients and program needs.

FAQSL et's get you started!

1. What is a Community Fundraising (Third Party) Event?

Businesses, organizations, community groups or individual hosts create an activity or event to raise money dedicated to UMOM clients. The activity or event is spearheaded, planned and held independently of any regulaly planned UMOM activities.

2. Why would I host a Community Fundraising Event?

We need your help – it is as simple as that. UMOM relies on community awareness and support to achieve our mission of preventing and ending homelessness through innovative strategies and housing solutions. It is only with your help that we’re able to continue serving these families, single women and youth each day.

3. I want to host an event but I’m not sure what to do. Here are just a few ideas of activities and events you could create in your community. These are certainly not the only ones, but merely a few ideas to get you started. Be creative and have fun!

Collect Donations: Have a pay for wearing jeans day at your office, create a family event to get your children involved, create a “challenge” where friends pledge support for every pound lost or mile walked.

Host a fundraiser: This could be a benefit concert, a bake sale, a car wash, dog walk, bowling tournament or donate a percentage of a restaurant night’s profits. Host a concession stand at a little league game or run a golf tournament

Party with a Purpose: Make your next event a “party with a purpose.” If you have an annual holiday event that could generate funds, designate UMOM. Your participants will have fun and feel good about making a difference for others. Birthday parties for your child where you request donations in lieu of gifts or private house parties that ask attendees for a gift are just some ideas to get you started.

4. What can UMOM do to help with my fundraiser?

UMOM is here to support you in making your event successful but there are limits to how we can help. We can offer printed materials about UMOM programs and services to share at your event, donation envelopes to help collect donations and templates to help you promote your event with social media posts. The event sponsor is responsible for underwriting any cost, printing materials, publicity and working at the event.

5. OK – I’m in and want to host an event, what are the next steps?

Please fill out the Events Proposal Form in this package and send your idea to Amanda Montelongo-Fisher at [email protected]. Amanda and her team will review your event to make sure it meets all the established UMOM guidelines. There is a list of them for you to review in this packet of information. She may call you with a few questions, to share previous success ideas or to help you brainstorm. Once your proposal is approved, you are ready to start planning and promoting your event!

SUCCESSFUL EVENTS

School FundraisersAfter volunteering with UMOM’s Read to Me Program, Rancho Solano Preparatory School’s NJHS wanted to do more to help the children they had interacted with while volunteering. The group decided to host a Walk- A-Thon at their school to raise funds for UMOM. Not only was this event a huge success, raising $1,143, it also taught the NJHS members about working together and communicating across groups to ensure a successful event. The funds collected from the Walk-A-Thon, provided about 81 youth with programming & services for one week.

Family Friendly FundraisersChloe wanted to find a way to help the single women at UMOM’s Diane and Bruce Halle Women’s Center. She decided to host a bake sale in her neighborhood on a busy Saturday morning. Chloe’s sweet and satisfying baked goods raised $328 which was able to provide food, shelter and programming for one week for one woman at the Halle Women’s Center.

Beneficiary EventsA company created a coupon code for guests to use when ordering pizza online. The coupon code gave them a discount off their meal and gave a portion of their meal’s proceeds to UMOM. The company’s efforts to support UMOM through Community Fundraising brought in $25k which in turn was able to provide 454 nights of shelter for families, single women and youth.

“Challenge” FundraisersAn organization held a Jeans Day campaign during which employees could donate $5 to UMOM and be able to wear jeans to work for the duration of the campaign. The employees raised $2,156 through this fundraiser providing approximately five families with food, shelter and programming for one week.

Th e best learning experience was discovering wh en working togeth er, th ey were able to pull off a fun and successful even t. Our members got to go on a tour of UMOM following th e Walk-A-Thon. It was a great experience for th em to see what th eir fundraising dollars did for th e
