Claremont Courts Modernization
GHAofficiallyopenedamodernizedClaremontCourtsMay11,completewithanewResourceCenter. TheCommunityalsohasnewlydesignedexteriorfacades,newheatingandcoolingsystemsandimprovedlandscaping. ThenewCenterhasmeetingspace,akitchen,managementandstaffoffices,plusspaceforaPoliceNeighborhoodResourceCenter. Asecondribboncuttingwasheldforthenew“BornLearningTrail”atthecommunity,madepossiblethroughapartnershipwiththeToc-quevilleWomen’sLeadershipoftheUnitedWayofGreaterGreensboro. Extending1,373feetthroughtheheartofthecommunity,theTrailisanengagingpathofinteractiveactivitiesthatpromoteslanguageandpre-literacyskills,motorskillsandschoolreadinessforchildren,aswellasexerciseequipment,playstationsandsidewalkgraphics.

Poster Contest Winners Announced
EightyouthinthreeagecategoriesfromGHAcom-munitiesallacrossGreensborohavebeennamedlocalwinnersintheNationalAssociationofHousingandRedevelopmentOfficials’“HousingAmerica”PosterContest. Thewinnersinclude14-year-oldSymeonDavis,amiddleschoolstudentfromHamptonHomes,whowasanationalwinnerthelasttwoyearsandhadhisposterincludedinNAHRO’s2011and2012HousingAmericaCalendar. Thisyear’sfirst-placelocalwinnersare:ZoeBest,anelementarystudentfromHickoryTrails;Davis;andAngelaDukes,ahighschoolstudentfromRiverbirch. Second-placewinnersare:SymiahDavis,anelementaryschoolstudentfromHamptonHomes;AnyahDavis,amiddleschoolstudentfromHamptonHomes;andImaniUpsher,ahighschoolstudentfromRiverbirch. Third-placewinnersare:ShyanneHarrison,anel-ementaryschoolstudentfromRayWarrenHomes;andSerenityJohnson,amiddleschoolstudentfromRayWarrenHomes. Thethemeofthecompetitionwas“WhatHomeMeanstoMe.”
