Tourism born in 2002, 4 companies came to build hotels but not successfully operated due to the lack of community participation in the planning and security of the area. After 12 years of silence, tourism reborn in 2014 after the multi stakeholders workshop on responsible tourism development held in Feb 24-25 in Hpa-An & May14-15 in Toungoo. Thanks to PeacNexus and its partner organizations, Hanns Seidel Foundation & MTF. Result of 3 workshops, Thandaunggyi was agreed to as a pilot project and formed the working group “ Thandaunggyi Tourism Development Working Group”
