ASC SERVES THE FRONTLINE OF AUSTRALIA’S

NAVAL DEFENCE CAPABILITIES. As shipbuilder

for the Air Warfare Destroyer (AWD) project,

ASC is building the most advanced and complex

warships ever built in Australia at the country’s

most modern and capable shipbuilding

facilities.

ASC’s shipyard in Osborne, South Australia was

developed in 2009 to engineer, manufacture,

consolidate, outfit, and test the three Hobart

Class AWDs and has direct access to the

South Australian Government’s Common User

Facility(CUF). Designed in conjunction with the

Common User Facility, the facilities allow for

modern modular shipbuilding practices and

land level construction to maximise levels

of pre-outfitting prior to launch.

The first AWD, the future destroyer Hobart, was

launched in May 2015 and ASC is well advanced

in the consolidation of the future destroyers

Brisbane and Sydney. Applying the lessons

learned from construction of the first of class

in a new shipyard, we are achieving productivity

improvements of 30 percent between the first

and second ships, and in excess of 10 percent

between the second and third ships.

ASC manages a global supply chain for its

shipbuilding activities, including outsourced

module fabrication and outfit. Our project

management, production engineering,

configuration management, planning, and

production teams ensure an effective and

efficient construction process is followed before

progressive handover of the ships systems

to the test and activation teams. Our logistic

support team delivers the documentation and

spares required for in-service operation.

Our facilities are security accredited, and

managing export controlled or commercially

sensitive data is a way of life for us.

With more than 1,800 professionals and

tradespeople operating at our Osborne

site, ASC Shipbuilding is proud to be

at the forefront of naval shipbuilding,

and delivering capability to the Royal Australian

Navy. ASC Shipbuilding complies with Navy’s

Naval Technical Regulatory System, and

engages with classification societies as

required to fulfill customer requirements.

With capacity for ships up to 9,300 tonne, ASC

Shipbuilding has the facilities, personnel and

know-how to safely and effectively deliver

the required capability for the Navy.
