GEMATA:important growth – more than 50 per cent – in 2013

GeMaTa was founded and is now consolidated in the sector dedicated to the design and construction of machinery for the leather sector. Since its start-up in 1971, the group has continued to grow and expand, now with branches in Brazil and India, as well as branching out into the glass sector with its subsidiary company Rollmac, specialized in machinery and plants for the enamelling and satin-etching of flat glass.

The GeMaTa Group, which reported 52 per cent growth in 2013, is active mostly in the sector of machinery for the finishing of leather, most of all for the auto-motive sector. Founded in 1971, with the acquisition of the FBP brand in 2001, the company started to work on the design and construction of automatic machinery for movement and transport, selection and storage of leather. In 2003, GeMaTa took over its competitor Rol-lmac and increased its R&D regarding new plants for leather finishing, as well as the development of new and innovative machinery for flat glass.In June 2004, with its sub-sidiary GeMaTa do Brasil, GeMaTa opened a produc-tion unit in San Leopoldo, in southern Brazil. In 2007, GeMaTa acquired Linta and, in 2008, the entire range of splitting machines, increasing their quality and production standards. Du-ring the same year, with its subsidiary GeMaTa Indu-stry India Pvt. Ltd., GeMa-Ta bought 23,000 square metres of land in Ranipet, India, for the construction of a production unit.The most recent important step was taken in 2013, in Italy, when the group com-pleted the expansion of its production unit in Trissi-no with more than 4,000 square metres, along with 800 square metres dedica-ted to offices.

THE KEY TO SUCCESS – PROFESSIONAL EMPLOYEES AND NEW ORGANIZATIONGeMaTa’s success is to be found in the high level of professionalism of its per-sonnel, as well as in its new internal organization. Each and every part of the com-pany’s process, in fact, is geared to potential clients and fast, affordable and effi-cient service, with products that satisfy their needs, and which are constantly monitored and improved. And the entire company is involved in this, with all personnel taking active part in refresher courses and seminars to increase their knowledge and skills.All products are designed in-house by an R&D office, and then tested first in the testing lab of the company and then at clients of the sector with which GeMaTa has close collaboration.In April 1999, GeMaTa was the first company of the le-ather finishing machinery sector to obtain ISO 9002 Quality Certification, follo-wed by, in July 2001, ISO 14001Environmental Cer-tification, ISO 9001:2000 Quality Certification in June 2003 and, in July 2009, Lavoro Sicuro (Safe Working) safety certifica-tion.Quality is a fundamental characteristic for GeMaTa. All the company’s machines in fact, stand out for their high precision construc-tion, the highest quality

materials and components used, ease and stability of adjustment, which guaran-tee fast and facilitated ope-rations, while enabling use of all production potential, guaranteeing considerable reliability over time.GeMaTa’s strong points include:

DEVELOPING WITH ROLLMACRecent developments re-gard a series of new machi-nes and plants for the ena-melling and satin-etching of flat glass with the Rol-lmac brand name.The new machines, Co-lorGlass and MultiGlass, allow for the enamelling of glass with thicknesses from 2 up to 25 millimetres and

sizes of up to 2600 milli-metres, and stand out for a series of innovative featu-res that make them unique:

-cal product deposited with a single passage – up to 300 micron – without any trace of product on the ed-ges;

mounting up to three dif-ferent cylinders in steel or rubber, also to create scre-en printing effects;

of items (less than 15 mi-nutes), without wasting chemical product during washing.

GLASSLINEThe most recent innova-tion in the glass sector in response to demands for edge enamelling is the GlassLine. This is a com-pletely new machine ba-sed on the consolidated technologies of enamel-ling with an engraved steel cylinder in reverse.GlassLine was developed in response to the parti-cular needs and demands of the sectors for glass for architecture and furniture, which means the enamel-ling of glass with maximum frame sizes of 200 milli-metres on all four sides of the glass sheet. This takes place in four steps with return and 90° rotation of the glass between one step and the next. Once the four steps have been carried out, the glass is transported to the drying oven. ting all types of flat glass on the market, with thicknes-ses ranging from 2 to 25 millimetres, and sizes up to 2,600 millimetres. The en-graved cylinder enables to deposit a uniform and con-stant quantity of paint of up to 400 g/sq.m. (about 300 micron) in a single stroke.

ROLLER COATING AND DESIGN PRINTING OF FLOAT GLASSMultiGlass

MultiGlass is a new rol-ler coating machine for the enamelling and design printing of flat glass by me-ans of an engraved cylin-der, and is the evolution of the machines present on the market for some years now. The Multiglass project concentrates all the improvements made thanks to years of experience and market demand, combining the technical innovations of ColorGlass with the opera-tional flexibility of the pre-vious model of StarGlass.This machine enables pain-ting on all types of flat glass on the market with ease, with thicknesses ranging

from 2 to 25 millimetres, and working heights from 600 to 2,600 millimetres.Particular attention has been given to improve-ments of the typical pro-blems regarding roller coating: the uniform and precise coating of surfaces, avoiding build up of paint on entrance/exit edges of the glass sheets.With regards to tempered glass, large thicknesses or glass sheets that are not completely flat, a new type of rubber transport belt, in combination with a rubber engraved roll, guaranteeing the uniform coating of the glass, even those of large dimensions.Further enhancing flexibi-lity and fast product chan-geover, MultiGlass is also equipped with a rotating support for the engraved cylinders, which can be lifted by means of pneu-matic pistons for fast tool change, up to a maximum of three different engraved cylinders. Complete pro-duct change – variation of thickness and size para-meters of the glass sheet, quantity and colour of the

paint to be deposited, is ex-tremely fast, and takes only about 15 minutes. Transport of the glass she-ets and items takes place by means of rubber belt, resi-stant to oils and solvents. On request, a tilting entran-ce belt can also be installed in front of the machine to facilitate the transport of large-sized glass sheets. This belt can also include an optional device to align the front edge of the glass with the engraved printing roll. The electric panel, as for all machines from Rollmac, is installed inside the shoul-der, and is equipped with inverters for the control of the motors. The operator panel includes all machine

controls and digital visua-lization of all work values. Thickness adjustment is carried out by digital con-trol.

ColorGlass

ColorGlass is a new-style mono-cylinder roller coater for the enamelling and de-sign printing of glass sheets using an engraved cylinder.Designed as per the con-struction and operational criteria of machines for large-dimensioned glass sheets, it has been created in response to the needs of R&D and for the pro-cessing of both small-sized items and industrial pro-cesses. ColorGlass enables use of enamels on all types of glass on the market, with

thickness ranging from 2 to 25 millimetres, and working heights from 600 to 2600 millimetres. ColorGlass is therefore suitable for pro-cesses that range from small sizes, such as tiles, decora-tive elements, components, interior design items and special applications, to lar-ge glass sheets for facades, partition walls, etc.A wide range of engraved cylinders, both in chrome-plated steel and in rubber, offer the possibility of co-ating glass with a uniform and constant quantity of paint in a single run from 30 a 400 g/sq.m. (30 to 300 micron) without lea-ving paint on the edges of the glass sheets. Special la-ser-engraved rubber cylin-

ders are available both for enamelling as well as for the creation of screen printing effects on glass sheets that are not completely flat.As for all Rollmac machines, the strong points of Color-Glass are its ease of use and fast colour change. HIGH-EFFICIENCY DRIERS FOR FLOAT GLASSGlassDrier IRGlassDrier IR was desig-ned with special attention paid to ergonomic issues and ease of maintenance. The infra-red lamps are mounted on racks with side removal for quick re-placement or cleaning. Large openable side panels

enable the inspection and cleaning of the furnace. A fume exhaust system with adjustable air-locks guarantees the optimal evacuation of the same wi-thout unwanted exhaustion of hot air. The glass sheets are conveyed through the furnace by means of moto-rized rollers with glass fibre coating. All furnace para-meters are managed and supervised by PLC.An optional ventilation sy-stem is also available, made up of an electro-ventilator, inverter driven and electri-cal heat exchanger.The cooling section has forced ventilation of filte-red air, distributed over the sheet by air blade blowers.
