F O R E W O R D

From ancient times women in Sri Lanka have made significant contributions for the preservation of our Mother Nature. In this contemporary society women have a important role to play, in the protection and preservation of the environment. The Central Environmental Authority with a view to encourage participation of more women in preserving the environment, prepared the directory of "Women In Environment In Sri Lanka". This will bring together women engaged in environmentally related activities and thereby facilitate exchanging views among those with similar interests. This would also avoid duplication of research and other activities.

This directory was prepared on the basis of a survey conducted in the early part of 1990. Perhaps, there may be certain omissions or shortcomings in it. Women in Sri Lanka who are engaged in environmentally related activities, whether their names are included in this directory or not, are kindly requested to contact the CEA, and inform any additions or amendments required to be made. Such information will be incorporated in the revised directory to be published in the near future.
