    NB: Students register at the following campuses:

    a. If a student has been accepted at the Bellville Campus, or any of theservice points in Bellville, then he/she may only register at Bellville

    campus.

    b. If a student has been accepted at the Cape Town Campus or any of the

    service points in Cape Town, then he/she may only register at the Cape

    Town Campus.

    c. If a student has been accepted at the Granger Bay Campus, then he/she

    may only register at that campus.

    d. If a student has been accepted at the Mowbray Campus, then he/she

    may only register at Mowbray campus.

    e. If a student has been accepted at the Wellington Campus, then he/she

    may only register at Wellington campus.

    THE REGISTRATION PROCESS

    INITIAL PAYMENTS: ALL CAMPUSES

    All students must pay an initial amount of R3700 BEFORE or on the day of

    registration, for all full-time and part-time courses. If the full course fee is less

    than R3700, it must be paid in full at registration. Only students who have paid

    the above-mentioned amount will be registered.

    First year students must pay an initial amount of R1850,00 upon acceptance

    and a further R1850,00 before or on the day of registration.

    years) must pay an amount of R3700before or on the day of registration.

    A student, who will be staying in a university residence, must pay an initial

    amount of R1700 in respect of residence fees. The total amount payable upon

    registration by a residence student is R5400 (R3700 for tuition and R1700 for

    residence fees).

    All students must register in person at the venuesindicated.

    Do not hand over money or your registration form to anyone who says

    he/she can register on your behalf.

    TERMS OF PAYMENT: TUITION FEES

    After this initial payment of R3700,00,the remainder of the fees owing may be

    paid in monthly instalments from February to November, at the rate of 10% of

    the fees for year courses (or from February to June, at the rate of 20% of the

    fees for semester courses). Payment can also be made by a debit order over

    9 months from February to October. There will be no interest charged if thedebit order is strictly adhered to.

    Debit orders can be drawn on all types of bank accounts (current, savings and

    trans-mission), as well as credit cards (not on budget) and debit cards. Debit

    order forms are available from the Student Debtors Department.

    A discount of 5% for year courses and 2.5% per semester for semester

    courses will be allowed if the account is settled before 14 February for year

    and first semester course and if the account should be settled by 15 August

    for second semester course.

    All students must pay their fees either by means of a direct deposit

    at a bank or an electronic payment.

    Your name and student number must be clearly indicated on the deposit slip.Please bring your copy of the bank deposit slip on the day of

    registration.Allow three working days for the transaction to be processed and reflected on

    your student account.

    If an employer or bursar is responsible for paying your registration and tuition

    fees, you must bring along a letter (on an official letterhead) from them as

    Please ensure that the letter is addressed to the Cape Peninsula University of

    Technology and that the dates are relevant. If you have such a letter, you also

    avoid the queues at the Cashiers, and can proceed directly to the next step of

    the registration process.

    Residence accommodation is subject to availability, in terms of the rules, and

    will be allocated at the campus where the student will be studying.

    YOUR CHECK LIST FOR REGISTRATION

    PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING WITH YOU WHENYOU COME TO REGISTER:

    a) A pen.

    b) Your letter of acceptance (first year and first registration students only).

    c) Method of payment:

    All students must pay their fees either by means of a direct deposit at abank or an electronic payment. Please bring your copy of the bankdeposit slip (or proof of sponsorship letter) on the day of registration.

    d) Students registering at the University for the first time:

    Your original National Senior Certificate or the original Advice ofResults statement PLUS a certified copy of your Senior Certificate

    or Advice of Results.

    Your original identity document or original birth certificate PLUScertified copies of these documents.

    e) Students transferring from another university or a university oftechnology:

    The original Statement of Results/Academic Record and a letter of good

    conduct from another university/university of technology. These

    documents will be returned to the student. If you wish to apply for subject

    exemption/recognition, you should do so during registration.

    The exemption/recognition forms can be obtained from the Faculty Office.

    Applications for exemption/recognition must be submitted by 31 January

    2014. These applications must be reviewed by a panel, and you should

    follow up to find out whether the application was successful. No late

    applications will be accepted.

    f) International students:

    A valid study permit as well as proof of valid medical aid cover. Nointernational student will be registered without proof of such a permitand medical aid cover. The University reserves the right to verify theauthenticity of all documentation. For details regarding medical aidcover, please go to pages 22-24 of this brochure.

    All international students, including refugees, should first report tothe International Office to produce the above documents and obtainacademic clearance, before proceeding to the registration venue.

    ONLINE REGISTRATION CAN BE COMPLETED IN 8 EASY STEPS:

    Step 1:

    Go to the Studentstab on the

    CPUT website and click on the

    Student Online Services

    (SOS)link, or use the direct

    linkwww.cput.ac.za/sos.

    Click on Log in to SOS.

    Step 2:

    Registered Users, will appear.

    Select Student and type in your student number & PIN number, and click Login.

    You are now on the first page of the ITS iEnabler Online Registration. Click on the

    blue question mark next to any item for more information.

    You can check whereyou are in theprocess, as well asgo back a step, by using the process trail at the top of the web page. Just click on oneof the underlined words and you will go back or forward to that point.

    Step 3:

    Select Student Enquiryon the left.

    Go to Summarized Statement of Account.

    Verify that the upfront payment of R3 700 shows as a credit on

    your account. If payment was made 72 hours earlier and the

    payment does not show on the SummarizedStatement,

    Contact Student Debtors and supply proof of payment.

    Select E-Payments on the left, to pay by credit card (Visa or MasterCard only -no debit cards accepted on the Web)

    Follow the steps on screen and click on Pay Now.

    Go back to Summarized Statement of Accountif you want to verify that the

    payment reflects on your account.

    Step 4:

    Select Student Administrationon the left.

    Personal Information Update

    Select Personal information Update on the left to verify your personal

    details.

    You are only allowed to update the fields with a white border, for example

    Alternate surname:

    Click on Saveat the bottom of the page once you have updated any of

    above information.

    To change any other personal details you have to submit a formal request to theAdmissions and Registrations Centre (ARC) on campus.

    Personal Contact Detail

    Select Personal Contact Detail on the left to verify your contact details.

    If contact details are not correct, select Communication Type to change

    existing contact details.

    If you want to add Contact Details, select New Record to add new contact

    details.

    Select Save at the bottom of the page to save your changes. Verifycorrectness.

    Address Validation

    Select Address Validation on the left to verify your address details.

    If address details are not correct, select Address Type to change existing

    details.

    If you want to add new details, click on New Record to add new contact

    details.

    Click on Saveat the bottom of the page to save your changes. Verify

    correctness.

    Step 5:

    Select Academic Registrationon the left.

    Rules and Regulations

    Select Rules & Regulationsand read through the Rules &

    Regulations.

    Click on the I Accept button at the bottom. (You may have to

    scroll down to see it).

    Please take note acceptance of the Rules and Regulations is compulsory andserves as your electronic signature. This indicator is stored on your Student Fileand will be used as a Legal Agreement in a dispute/disciplinary matter.

    If you do not accept the Rules and Regulations the system will not allow you to

    continue.

    Step 6: Submit registration

    Select Submit Registrationon the left.

    Verify that the qualification details displayed you are correct. All fields indicated

    with an *must be completed.

    Select your Employment Status from the drop-down list.

    Click on Save and Continue or SaveContinue later or Restart Process

    button.

    SelectSubmit Registration >> Possible Subject Selection.Select your Subjects, by ticking the box next to each subject. Please note thefollowing.

    You may not register for subjects where the pre-requisitehas not been met.

    These subjects will be indicated with a red button:

    Where module subjects are offered (e.g. Financial Accounting 1A and 1B),

    please ensure that you include the mother/mainsubject (e.g. FinancialAccounting 1M). Refer to the subject choice form.

    Students must select both the first and second semester subjects this is a

    once-off registration for the whole year.

    Academic Period SelectionSelect ONE Academic Period which represents when you would like to study for

    each of the chosen subjects. Consult the Subject Choice Form to select the

    appropriate academic period, then clickContinue.

    On the next screen:

    Verify the selected subjects for the whole year. If you wish to change a subject,

    click the previous item on the process trail at the top of the web page.

    When you have verified your subjects, as well as the semester you will be

    studying, click on the Continue button.

    Select Save and Continue or SaveContinue later button.

    Submit Registration >> Registration Details

    Select the Continue or Restart Process or Print Registration Details button to

    print to a printer connected to your computer.

    Submit Registration >> Registration Costs

    Select the Print Cost Details button to print the Registration Costs.

    If you are satisfied with the subject selection, and want to complete your registration,

    select the Accept Registration button. (If you want to change anything, go back

    using the process trail at the top of the page.)

    Note: Once you click on this button your registration is final, and you will be

    liable for any fees.

    You may use the Add Subjects to a Registrationoption of you would like to make

    changes to your subjects.

    STEP 7:

    Proof of Registration

    Select Proof of Registration on the left to print your proof of registration (to be

    able to collect your student card on campus).

    If you require this document to be printed on an official CPUT letterhead, visit any

    Online Registration Venue on campus (refer to page 1 for details). After the

    Registration period, printed documents can be obtained from the Admission

    and Registration Centre.

    Proof and Statement

    Select Proof and Statement on the left should you wish to print a proof and

    statement.

    Process Status

    Process Statusgives you an indication whether you have completed all the

    compulsory steps of the registration process.

    Should you want to add a subject, or make any changes to your registration, you

    must contact the Faculty Office.

    Congratulations! You have successfully completed your Registration.

    STEP 8:

    Issuing of STUDENT CARD

    Students who complete their online registration must report to the Student Card

    points, on the three campuses, from 13 January 2014 to 3 February 2014,

    where a photograph will be taken and your student card issued.

    From 04 February 2014 onwards, you must collect your student card from theProtection Services Department.

    THE REGISTRATION PROCESS (BACK- OFFICE)

    POINT 1: ACADEMIC CLEARANCEVenue: See pages 29-44 for Academic Clearance Venues

    On the day of registration students will go to the faculty/academic department

    building for academic clearance (see pages 29-44under the various faculties

    and campuses).

    Specific rooms will be allocated for each qualification in the

    faculty/department. Staff will issue students with a registration, indemnity and

    subject choice form. The academic staff will do the subject choices by ticking

    off and signing the subjects on the subject choice form. The academic staff

    will check the registration form and hand it back to the student who then

    proceeds to the next point. The student will complete the indemnity form and

    amend the registration form, if applicable. Students who still need to pay will

    go to the cashiers in the Administration Building, Level 4, Cape Town

    Campus, Administration Building, Ground Floor, Bellville Campus or the

    Administration Building, Wellington Campus. Students, who made a deposit

    at a bank prior to the registration date or have a letter from an

    employer/bursar, then proceed for financial clearance.

    NO INTERNATIONAL STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO

    PROCEED TO FINANCIAL CLEARANCE IF NOT IN

    POSSESSION OF A COMPLETED INTERNATIONAL

    CHECKLIST.

    POINT 2: FINANCIAL CLEARANCE

    Staff members will capture all subject choices. The student will receive three

    print-outs (two printouts showing lists of subjects and one account) that the

    student must verify. Students are not allowed to register for a subject(s) that

    has not been approved. Staff members will verify the captured information

    against the information on the registration or subject form. If mistakes occur,

    the student will be referred back to the person assisting him/her. The student

    must sign a copy of the list of subjects as proof of correctness. The account

    and other list of subjects will be handed to the student as proof of registration.

    Students must submit all documentation at this point. The student will then

    proceed to the next point.

    REGISTRATION PROCEDURE: INTERNATIONAL

    STUDENTS

    All international students, including refugees, should first report to theinternational office to obtain their clearance, before proceeding to theregistration venue:

    arrive on time. Follow the guidelines as set out for students in the faculty

    that you will be entering.

    No international student will be registered without a valid permit andmedical aid cover. The University reserves the right to verify theauthenticity of all documentation.

    MONEY MATTERS:

    Returning international students with outstanding debt will not be allowed to

    register. Before you can be registered you must provide proof that you have

    made the following payments:

    R3900 Initial upfront payment

    R1500 International Administration Levy

    (non-refundable once-off payment for all students

    The first timeexcept refugees and students with permanent

    Residence in South Africa)

    R1900 If you will be staying in a University residence.

    All international students (excluding refugees) are required to make an

    upfront payment of 50% of the anticipated fees for the year; the balance of the

    fees for the year must be paid in May.

    International students (excluding students from Africa, Mauritius or refugees)pay twice the official University course fees.

    ORIENTATION

    With this booklet you will have received information relating to orientation. We

    try as far as possible to integrate international students in to the Faculty and

    residence orientation programmes, but, in addition to these, have arranged a

    special international student orientation on the Friday and Saturday of the last

    weekend in February and July 2014.

    This programme is geared specifically for first-year international students and

    will take place during the first weeks of the term. Watch the notice boards for

    details about the time and place.

    FINANCIAL AID

    BURSARIES AND LOANS

    WHAT IS FINANCIAL AID?

    Financial assistance is awarded to academically merited and financially

    needy students to assist in paying for study related costs (fees,

    accommodation, books, etc.).

    TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID

    1. University Administered Awards(Bursaries)

    Donors that make funds available for the University to administer according to

    set criteria.

    University Administered Awards are for 2nd

    , 3rd and 4

    th year

    students only.

    Applicants must be South African citizens, have a very good academic record,

    should be assessed as financially needy and must make a contribution

    towards their studies. Size of awards varies.

    2. NSFAS (Bursary/Loan)

    NSFAS Loans are available for both financially needy and academically

    deserving students. The criteria are available in the application form and

    NSFAS brochure.

    3. Merit Bursaries

    To first year students who obtained an Aaggregate in grade12 in the year

    preceding their first registration at the University. The award is only availableduring the first year of registration.

    4. Nominated Awards

    Off campus agencies (companies, NGOs ,etc) award bursaries/scholarships

    directly to students who apply to them.

    First-year students: 28 FebruaryReturning students: 31 August (of the previous year)

    Second semester students: 31 May

    WHAT TO DO IF YOU NEED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE?

    Students studying at Bellville, Tygerberg and Groote Schuur

    Application forms will be made available to students during the orientation

    programme. Alternatively go to the Financial Aid Office on the Ground Floor in the

    Library Extension to obtain a bursary/loan application form for financial assistance

    From one of the bursary office staff. Complete and return the application form

    by the closing dates, along with the necessary documentation.

    Students who receive Nominated Awards should submit their award letters at the

    Financial Aid Office for processing.

    Students studying at Cape Town, Mowbray, Granger Bayand Wellington

    Application forms will be made available at the Financial Aid Office on Level 5 of

    the Administration Building (entrance via the Student Centre), Cape Town Campus,

    Administration Building. Financial Aid Office, Wellington Campus.

    Obtain a bursary/loan application form from the Financial Aid helpdesk.

    Complete and return the application form by the closing date along with the

    necessary documentation.
