Pressurized Systems

What is a Drainback System?• Drainback Systems offer the ultimate in both

overheat and freeze protection

• Drainback Systems are perfect for hot

and cold climates

• The collectors are normally dry until the

system calls for heat and turn on the pump

to harvest the energy, when the system is

satisfied, then the pump shuts off and the

fluid drains by gravity back to the drainback tank

• Drainback Systems require only water for the

solar fluid with is readily available and provides

the greater heat transfer over glycol

• Drainback Systems are the easiest to install and

require the least maintenance

What is a Pressurized System?• Pressurized Systems are used in situations where

achieving slope back to the drainback tank is not

possible.

• Pressurized Systems and the solar collectors are

filled with propylene glycol as the solar fluid day

and night, summer and winter

• Pressurized Systems require an expansion tank

and a pressure relief valve

• Pressurized Systems require more attention on an

annual basis making sure the glycol is adequate

for the climate

• Pressurized Systems rely many components

for overheat protection from the differential

controller to expansion tanks to pressure

relief valves
