o Renewable Portfolio Standardo 25% renewables by 2025. 6% of that is solar (by 2015)

o Solar Generationso NV Energy’s rebate program for residents, public

buildings and schools (25MWs released in 2010-11!)o Net Metering

o Billing arrangement that allows customers to meet onsite energy demand with solar and ‘bank’ any excess energy on the grid.

o 1% of all customers are allowed to net meter. Individual projects capped at 1MW.

o Most of the solar energy is consumed on-site.o 3rd Party Ownership of Solar Systems explicitly

allowed

o Tax Policieso 50% property tax abatement and a reduction in sales tax for systems over 10MW in size. E-3

Presentation Notes
Nevada Solar One went into commercial operation near Boulder City in 2007. Initial capacity of 64 MW expandable to 75MW, the project uses parabolic troughs to produce clean electricity. The plant is the first large scale solar thermal plant built in the US since 1991.

Solar Two operated from 1996 to 1999 10 MW capacity A new Solar One and Solar Two are planned for San Bernardino and Imperial Counties. Two new solar power tower are planned: “Stirling Energy Systems is planning to build two separate solar farms, one with the capacity to generate 500 megawatts of electricity in the Mojave Desert near Victorville, California, for SoCal Edison, and a 300-megawatt plant in the Imperial Valley, near Calexico, California, for SDG&E. The utilities have signed 20-year deals to buy all the juice the farms can turn out, and have options to expand the plants if they are successful. “ Wired 2005

World Class Solar Resource

For comparison: Germany world biggest solar market

Presentation Notes
Germany has 10,000 MW installed. World Leader US leader in solar in CA with X MW installed. New Jersey is the second largest market with 50? MW installed Amount of average sun that falls on an area of land is insolation. Nevada averages about 6 full sun hours a day, California averages 5.5, New Jersey 4.2 hours

SunEdison is a solar service provider that builds and finances commercial and utility-scale Solar Energy Projects. We are currently managing 250MWs of solar, making us the 3rd largest solar provider in the world. SunEdison’s parent company, MEMC is a global leader in the manufacture and sale of silicon wafers and related intermediate products to the semiconductor and solar industries. We manufacture silicon wafers right here in the US. For more than three decades, solar generated electricity has been dismissed as too costly. But the cost of solar generated electricity is consistently coming down, while the cost of conventional electricity is increasing.

Presentation Notes
Lowest Retail Prices ($/Wp) According to Solar Buzz, As of February 2011, there are now 329 solar module prices below $3.00 per watt (€2.19 per watt) or 28.8 % of the total survey. This compares with 398 price points below $3.00 per watt (€2.25 per watt) in January.   The lowest retail price for a multicrystalline silicon solar module is $1.85 per watt (€1.35 per watt)

The calculation of the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) provides a common way to compare the cost of energy across technologies because it takes into account the installed system price and associated costs such as financing, land, insurance, transmission, operation and maintenance, and depreciation, among other expenses. Carbon emission costs and solar panel efficiency can also be taken into account. The LCOE is a true apples-to-apples comparison.

BUY

-

If you’ve got a enough cash to cover the upfront costs, or can take out a home equity line of credit. Money down, immediate energy savings

“SOLAR SERVICES”

MODELS1.

LEASE-

It works like this: you put some money down, typically around $1,000-

2,000, and agree to a 10,15 or 20-year agreement. The company installs PV panels on your roof and the lease covers all

maintenance costs, including inverter replacement. You pay them a fixed rate for the electricity that’s produced by the panels. Little Money Down, Immediate Energy Savings.

2. POWER PURCHASE AGREEMENT (PPA) -

A third-party developer owns, operates, and maintains the photovoltaic (PV) system, and a host customer agrees to site the

system on its roof or elsewhere on its property and purchases the system’s electric output from the solar services provider for a predetermined period. No Money Down, Immediate Energy Savings E-19

“The growth in third-party ownership implies that third-party financing may have resolved financial barriers

of the high initial cost to expanded growth of PV into the residential market”

o Each megawatt (MW) of photovoltaic (PV) panels manufactured in the US employs 14 people.

o Each MW of PV installed on homes in the US employs 14.3 people.

o Each MW of PV installed on commercial buildings employs 9 people.

o Each MW of PV maintained employs .3 people.

Each MW of solar made and installed in the USA directly creates 25 well-

paying jobs and indirectly supports and induces an additional 63 jobs.
