Pliable armoured steel conduits aremade of a high-quality lead-coatedsheet iron in multi-layer design.Thanks to their narrow grooving, theyare extraordinarily flexible.Depending on the type of pipe, thereare layers of impregnated paper inbetween the iron sheet to providemoisture-proof insulation. One pipe

design is covered with a PVC-P coatfor protection against corrosion. Bythis, these pipes offer protectionagainst moisture, aggressive dampsand liquids as well as dangerous con-tact electricity. All types of armouredsteel conduits are suited for highmechanical loads. The pipes withoutcoating are resistant to temperaturesof up to 250 °C. They are light inweight and allow economical installa-tion with no need of special tooling orbends. Fixing is easily done by meansof clamps. The narrow grooving suitsall standardized steel pipe connectorsand provides tensile connection.Threading is not necessary.

Classification

To allow the European countries to"grow together", impediments totrade are to be reduced. The harmo-nisation of national standards intointernational ones (CEN and CENE-LEC) comes up to this politicalrequest.

In the field of electrical conduits,several standards have been pre-pared by CENELEC in order to guarantee a uniform product quality in Europe. So there are now standard-ized nominal diameter series insteadof nominal diameters differing fromcountry to country.

In contrast to the so far inch system,these diameters are based on metricmeasurements. Nominal diametersare now based on the outside diame-ters and correspond to the followingDN series: DN 16, DN 20, DN 25, DN 32, DN 40, DN 50 and DN 63.The following table shows the systemof the new standards:

The new standards also include different specifications regarding designation and marking. The letters

have been turned into a numericalcode, the meaning of which can betaken from the following table.

In the new EN standard, nominal dia-meters (DN) are defined differently!The new nominal diameters refer tothe real outside diameters. For exam-

ple, a pipe defined as DN 25 now hasan outside diameter of 25 mm, whilepreviously the nominal diametersreferred to inside diameters.
