NextGen Genomics, Biology, Bioinformatics and Technologies (NGBT) Conference to be held from Sep 30th to Oct 2nd in Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, is organized by SciGenom Research Foundation (SGRF), a not-for-profit organization working to promote Science, Research & Education in India and rest of Asia.

The NGBT conference is jointly hosted in collaboration with Toronto Recombinant Antibody Centre (TRAC), Toronto, Canada, Birla Institute of Scientific Research (BISR), Jaipur, India, Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS), Jaipur, India, Eternal Heart Care Centre & Research Institute (EHCC), Jaipur, India, SMS Medical College Hospital (SMSMC), Jaipur, India and Institute of Bioinformatics (IOB), Bengaluru, India. Nature Genetics will be the 2018 NGBT ‘Knowledge Partner’. This is the eighth international conference hosted by SGRF Conferences, the educational outreach arm of SciGenom Research Foundation (SGRF), along with national and international institutes.

The 2017 NGBT conference was attended by over 1000 delegates from India and various parts of the world. There were 18 keynote lectures and 84 talks over the course of three days. The conference also featured over 280 posters and 10 poster awards. The 2017 NGBT conference scholarships and travel awards supported 150 students towards their expenses fully or partially, for attending the meeting. SGRF also announced four genome project grant winners who will get support for their research work.

The 2018 NGBT conference will showcase and promote application of NextGen sequencing and genomics technologies for basic and translational sciences in all areas of biology including human genetics, drug discovery, clinical medicine, biomarkers, diagnostics, animal, plant and agricultural sciences. It will also cover basic biology, cellular signalling, cancer and plant biology. We expect over 1000 delegates. The conference, as in the past, is designed to provide a forum for scientists and students to share their work, build new connections and explore collaborations.

Jaipur, India Jaipur is the largest city in Rajasthan and was built in the eighteenth century by Sawai Jai Singh as India's first planned city. Jaipur is a major tourist attraction amongst Indian as well as international travellers. It belongs to the tourist Golden Triangle of Delhi, Jaipur and Agra. It hosts several attractions like the City Palace, Govind Dev ji Temple, Vidhan Sabha, Birla Temple, several massive Rajput forts and so on. It also serves as a stepping stone for travelers heading to the desert cities of Jodhpur and Jaisalmer.

Jaipur gets its name from its founder Maharaja Jai Singh II (1693-1744) the great warrior and astronomer. He came to power at the age of 11 on the death of his father Maharaja Bishan Singh. Jai Singh’s lineage can be traced back to the Kucchwaha Rajput clan who came to power in the 12th century. They were long-term rivals to the Sisodia Rajputs who ruled from Mewar. This rivalry led them to ally with Mughals, and resulted in them eventually gaining a pre-eminent position in Rajasthan.

Jaipur is often called the Pink City in reference to its distinctly colored buildings, which were originally painted in this color to imitate the red sandstone architecture of Maugham cities. The present earthy red color originates from repainting of the buildings undertaken for a visit of Prince of Wales in 1876.
