April 5th, 2020 Palm Sunday From the Desk of the Pastor…
Dear Friends,
Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!
• Drive-Thru Confession This Monday- Friday from 10am-12pm in parking lot.
• Note the changes on the April calendar to some Holy Week times.
• Your church is open daily from 8am-8pm for private prayer. During services, we
cannot allow gatherings of people at this time due to the ruling of our church
authorities who are working in conjunction with our civil authorities to stop the
spread of the Wuhan flu. This is perfectly reasonable. As such, please follow the
services livestreamed on:
https://www.facebook.com/HolyTrinityUkrainianCatholicChurch/ Any other
Holy Trinity Facebook pages are outdated and I ask that you update to this one.
• I have been trying to call as many parishioners as possible to see how each of you
are doing. Many I still have not called but hope to do so by Pascha. I ask you all
to continue with your fervent devotions, supplications, prayers, fasting, and your
spiritual reading. I especially urge you to read the Bible during this time, it alone
is inspired of all the books on Earth.
• I wish to thank you, each of you, for your kind cards and well-wishes to Halyna
and me on the birth of our son, Daniel Patrick. Thank you! He and mother are
both doing well! After this pandemic is over, we all will have a party for the ages!
I promise!
• Please, check in on one another. Check on the elderly, the widows, those living
alone, the sick in our parish family. This is not my duty alone, it belongs to each
of us. This isolation may not hit you hard, but it does it others hard and the extra
phone call will make someone’s afternoon.
• I am VERY EAGER to see each of you again. Lord, end it soon or come sooner!
• Regarding Palms: Please take one blessed palm from the table on the walkway
near the parking lot. There will be a heavy rod holding them down. Slide out a
blessed palm for yourself if I’m not there to hand it out. Drive-thru is open from
11am to 5pm.
• Regarding Holy Friday: The church will be open for private prayer. Please ensure
social distancing, do not kiss the shroud, ensure that not more than ten people are
in church at the same time.
• Regarding Holy Saturday: We respectfully ask that you do not exit your car for
the blessing of baskets. Roll down your passenger window and I will bless the
Easter Foods on your passenger side seat.
• Regarding Holy Pascha, the Great Day: As of this writing I am still trying to
confirm a number of very important details. I have not heard from the proper
authorities as of print time. With that said, I will be at Trinity Acres on Easter
morning for Matins at 8:30am. As followers of Jesus Christ we believe that prayer
is essential to maintain health and safety, more so than anything else. Under the
PA “Stay-at-Home” order there is an exemption for religious institutions. I will
send out an email during Holy Week with more specific information. What I am
hoping for is that we can gather at Trinity Acres for Easter (STAYING IN OUR
CARS) to offer up fervent and intense prayer for the well-being of our country,
state and county in order that the sick be healed, that the first responders and
health-care workers be both strengthened and protected. We will offer up these
life-sustaining prayers with firm hope through our Resurrected Lord Jesus Christ
to His Eternal Father! I will be able to bless Easter Foods after the service, but I
will not be able to distribute Holy Communion, unfortunately. Follow on 96.7FM
from within a .5 mile radius of Trinity Acres.
• The intention for today’s liturgy is for all the health-care workers in our parish.
Please see the liturgy schedule in today’s bulletin for more info.
• Please, remember your parish between the gas and electric bills! God bless!
• Finally, I wish to thank those special, holy souls who disinfected our church on
Saturday. Hard work was done on the pews, ledges and door handles to ensure
safe germ-free usage this week. Thank you!
PRAYER OF PROTECTION FROM THE CORONAVIRUS
by His Grace Bishop Alexis (Trader) of Bethesda
O God Almighty, Lord of heaven and earth, and of all creation visible and
invisible, in Your ineffable goodness, look down upon Your people gathered
in Your name. Be our helper and defender in this day of affliction. You know
our weakness. You hear our cry in repentance and contrition of heart. O Lord
who loves mankind deliver us from the impending threat of the corona virus.
Send Your Angel to watch over us and protect us. Grant health and recovery
to those suffering from this virus. Guide the hands of physicians, and
preserve those who are healthy that we may continue to serve You in peace
and glorify Your most honorable and majestic Name, of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit, now and forever and to the ages of ages.
Sunday Gospel Reading Gospel According to St. John 12:1-18
Six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus
was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 2 There they made him a
supper; Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those at table with
him. 3 Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed
the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was
filled with the fragrance of the ointment. 4 But Judas Iscariot, one of
his disciples (he who was to betray him), said, 5 “Why was this
ointment not sold for three hundred denarii[a] and given to the
poor?” 6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor but because he
was a thief, and as he had the money box he used to take what was
put into it. 7 Jesus said, “Let her alone, let her keep it for the day of
my burial. 8 The poor you always have with you, but you do not
always have me.” 9 When the great crowd of the Jews learned that he
was there, they came, not only on account of Jesus but also to see
Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. 10 So the chief priests
planned to put Lazarus also to death, 11 because on account of him
many of the Jews were going away and believing in Jesus.
12 The next day a great crowd who had come to the feast heard that
Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees
and went out to meet him, crying, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes
in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” 14 And Jesus found
a young ass and sat upon it; as it is written, 15 “Fear not, daughter of
Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on an ass’s colt!”16 His
disciples did not understand this at first; but when Jesus was glorified,
then they remembered that this had been written of him and had been
done to him. 17 The crowd that had been with him when he called
Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore
witness. 18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they
heard he had done this sign.
