GOOD NEWS! WE’RE PRACTICALLY BACK TO NORMAL! Since Governor Lamont lifted most COVID restrictions on May 19, Archbishop Blair has also lifted most COVID restrictions as they pertain to our celebration of Mass.

As of and including Saturday, May 22, the general dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass in person on Sundays and Holy Days will no longer be in force. The only exceptions are those suffering from serious pre-existing conditions, those who are ill or homebound or those who are caregivers in close proximity to them, those who are in quarantine or those who reside with someone whose is in quarantine. For those who are safely able to attend, watching Mass online or on TV is not a valid substitute.

Masks are still required for all who enter the church.

Holy water fonts must remain empty.

Hand sanitizers should be used by those who enter the church.

Missalettes have been returned to the pews.

100% capacity is allowed as social distancing is no longer required and pew barriers have been removed.

There is no longer a restriction against gathering before and after Mass.

The use of Ushers, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are allowed. Children Altar Servers are not being allowed, but one adult Server can be used.

Congregational singing is allowed, but masks still need to be worn throughout the liturgy, and this includes while singing.

Entrance and exit processions are allowed.

The Offertory collection has been restored to using baskets with extended handles.

There is no Offertory procession with the gifts of bread and wine until further notice.

The Sign of Peace has been reinstituted, but it can only to be exchanged without touching. (Waving or a verbal exchange will be allowed.)

Receiving Holy Communion is still being done with COVID restrictions in place: on the hand, wearing masks, stepping to the side. Communion on the tongue will still be discouraged. Those who choose to receive in this manner should receive only after everyone else has received.

There is no distribution of the Precious Blood (including to the Deacons).

HOMEFRONT UPDATE Due to the lingering effects of the pandemic, the HomeFront organization has decided to shoot for a September date for this year’s project rather than move forward with the traditional May date. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the HomeFront project, it is a community outreach, a one-day repair blitz (7:00 am to about 4:00 pm) for a neighbor in need where Saint Edmund Campion Parish forms a crew to perform the necessary home repairs using materials provided by the HomeFront organization. The typical HomeFront recipient is elderly, disabled or a single parent and their total household income qualifies as low-income within their community.

I will continue to update you as things progress, but for now, please note that we are planning to form a crew from our parish later this year so we can assist an East Hartford homeowner in need. If you have any questions, please call me at 860-568-5001 or email me at [email protected].

We are also now offering symbols that can be added to the brick.
