MeansWhat is Required to Upgrade a PDW-700 or PDW-HD1500 to V1.2?

Upgrade to V1.2 requires a firmware and hardware upgrade

The first hardware kits will be delivered from Japan in November 2008

Upgrade to V1.2 can only be performed by a Sony Service Engineer

Please ask your customer to call your local Sony Service contact to arrange for the upgrade to be performed

From November onwards, camcorders and decks will be designated PDW-700/1 and PDW-HD1500/1 to indicate that V1.2 capability is included

MeansHow Do I Order & Install the SD Options for the Camcorder and Deck?

There are two SD options for XDCAM HD422 which are available to order via SAP

CBKZ-MD01 for the PDW-700 and PDW-700/1PDBK-S1500 for the PDW-HD1500 and PDW-HD1500/1

These options can only be installed after the upgrade to V1.2 has been completed, or if being installed into a PDW-700/1 or PDW-HD1500/1

MeansGuidelines to ensure compatibility with V1.2

When a disc formatted using a PDW-700/HD1500 (V1.2) is used in a PDW-U1, the version of the PDW-U1 must be V2.01 and higher.  If not (e.g. if the disc is inserted into a PDW-U1 V2.0), the message "UNKNOWN FS" might be displayed in very rare cases.

When simultaneously operating with a PDW-510/510P, PDW-530/530P, PDW-1500, PDW-V1, PDW-R1, PDW-D1, PDW-F350/F355, PDW-F330/F335, PDW-F70/F75, PDW-F30, or PDW-70MD/75MD, the version number of these models must be V1.56 and higher.

The WINDOWS FAM DRIVER must be V2.100 and higher, and MAC FAM DRIVER must be V2.2.0 and higher. When accessing data via FAM, if a file stored in the USER DATA folder (such as Excel or Word) is directly accessed and edited, it may not be possible to over-write the file to save it.  It is therefore recommended that the GENERAL folder is used, or that the file is loaded onto a PC and is then edited and saved.

The directory "/PROAV/USERDATA" cannot be seen via the Mac FAM Driver in the normal finder operation.  If required, use the absolute path, for example ;  /Volumes/XDCAMxxxxxxxxx/PROAV/USERDATA

When the PDW-700 is working in 720 50P/59.94P mode, operations should be made on a Frame Pair. Modify the length of odd frame to the length of even-frame since the length of the MXF file cannot be recorded from FAM/FTP. In practice, this means your edit must be an even number of frames. If it isn’t, add or delete one frame to the edit before it is written back to Professional Disc.

V1.2 adds a number of new features which use a USB keyboard to enter text characters. As operation cannot be guaranteed with all commercially available USB keyboards, users should check using their specific USB keyboard before putting the equipment into operational use. The following keyboards have been verified; USB BLACK made by DELL, Classic Keyboard 200 / Cordless Desktop EX110 made by Logicool Inhibit the Remote Controller to connect/disconnect when turning the power on.

The power switch should be turned off before connecting/disconnecting the RM/RCP/MSU to/from the PDW-700.  If hot-swapping is performed, a message "Valid after power off" appears to request re-powering.

Change of default setting of "SD Detail" to Off mode. When V1.2 is implemented, the default setting of SD Detail is changed from On to Off.  Therefore, if SD Detail needs to be On, it should be manually changed via the operational menu after the version up.

Change of default setting of "Matrix" to Off mode. In order to match the Matrix setting of HDCAM Camcorders, the default value will be changed from On to Off mode.  If the Matrix mode is set to On before an upgrade to V1.2, the setting will not change and will remain in On mode after version up.   When a factory preset is performed, the Matrix setting will then reset to Off mode.
