The advantages are that it is a good place to generate wind power as it’s windy on the top of a hill (1) and Orkney often gets high winds (1). 25% of Orkney’s electricity will come from here (1). The wind turbines will not create much pollution (1).The disadvantages are that people might complain that the turbines are an eyesore (visual pollution) (1). Also they will no electricity generated when it’s calm (1). Finally, the birds in the nearby RSPB reserve might be disturbed (1).

The Millennium Link has restored the Forth and Clyde canal and the Union Canal in central Scotland. It links the estuaries of the Rivers Forth and Clyde together as well as the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Describe the benefits which the opening of the Millennium Link will have for the economy and environment of the areas around it.

Economically, tourists will be attracted to see the wheel and this will bring money in to the area (1). They will go to the visitors centre, buy souvenirs and spend money in local shops (1) and stay in local hotels (1). The new jobs will be created for the locals in the visitors centre and also the construction (1). The environment will be improved as disused canals will be cleaned up (1) and people will be able to walk along the pathways (1) and wildlife will benefit from the creation of SSSI’s (1)

Describe the advantages and disadvantages this area has for a national park.

Use map evidence to support your answer.There are many advantages to this location for a national park. The areas of remote mountain scenery will attract people (1). The scenic views (143095) (1) are good for passive visitors (1) and there are lots of activities such as hill walking, woodland walks (1). Also, it has good road access such as the A93 (1).The disadvantages are the one main road may become congested and increase pollution in the area (1). Also, many tourists will flock to Braemar spoiling the peace and privacy of the town (1). The planted trees may be less attractive (1) and also the nature will be disturbed by litter (1), animals (1) and footpath erosion may be created (1).
