FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK : TO EVERYTHING THERE IS A SEASON

Wow! The other day I had some kind of a wake-up call. Not only did the furnace kick in from the chil-ly morning, but the Lord placed a scripture on my heart. I know it was special because I don’t normally wake up with a Bible verse before I get my coffee. Jesus didn’t just give me a Word, but He also gave me the street address and house number. Here it is:

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” Ecclesiastes 3:1, NIV)

Many of you may be marveling at how just overnight our summer has changed into fall. I was encouraged when the Holy Spirit pressed upon my heart to hear the word “season.” In fact, the affirmation I received with that Word was that the Lord is taking me, and our church, into a “new season.” Like you, I have been lamenting over the loss of the past two seasons that our congregation missed worshipping together as we try to contain the threat of COVID19. It has been exhausting trying to find new ways to keep our church fam-ily encouraged, and also be faithful in our mission to reach new people for Christ. The writer of Ecclesiastes does a good job of naming the emotional journey that we have been on since last March. But praise be to God that He is in charge of all seasons. Nothing surprises our God. While we are sleeping, our Heavenly Father is working all things out for our good, and for His glory.

9 What do workers gain from their toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him. (Ecclesiastes 3:9-14, NIV)

Family of God, we are in a new season now. God is about to do a new thing at Mt. Carmel. New ministries are emerging as I write this. As we come out of our slumber, and begin to open up our doors to the community let this be our wake up call. Will you join me in praying for a new season of ministry for our church, for our neighbors, and for our nation this fall? In Christ Alone, Pastor Mary

FAMILY AND CHILDREN’S MINISTRY NEWS

This has been a rewarding year to see how many fami-lies our church has reached during COVID19. Right now we are averaging 25 children and their parents on Wednesday nights for Messy Church under the picnic shelter. We hope to be able to move indoors to the Fam-ily Life Center in October. Our committee is small so we have room for more of you to join us. We could really use your help in planning and participating in our Fall Outreach event of a Halloween Drive-Thru on Saturday October 31 from 2:00-5:00 pm. We will be setting up car stations around the church and inviting families to drive around our church for a Gospel lesson. We will be pass-ing out prepackaged treats at the end. If you would like to donate candy, please bring by individually wrapped packages (avoid peanut products please) to the church through October 25. If you would like to help decorate a Gospel station, please contact me a.s.a.p. Thank you for your support. –Ann Farthing

*Update!

We are grateful to be able to open the church for worship last

month. Please note we are limited to 25 guests in the sanctu-

ary, 25 guests in the Family Life Center, and 10 guests in the

Disciple Classroom due to COVID19 protocols. Please come

30 minutes early to insure you will have a seat.

It is with great pleasure and excite-ment to announce that Mt. Carmel has opened their doors for worship at 11:00 am. When you come to church please be aware of the following changes.

• There will be one door to come

into the church—that door will be

the door at the end of the porch

that leads to the classrooms and

the Gathering Place.

• Guests will need to arrive 15-20 minutes early to get their tem-perature checked and answer a few questions before escorted into the sanctuary.

• An usher will then take you to your seat, where you will stay until the end of the service and then

will be ushered out of the church and will be exited through the Narthex doors.

• We will be seating families six feet or more from each other. If we have more than 25 guests there will be an overflow room located in the family life center. This is a temporary solution and we hope to be able to accommodate more people in worship as we go along.

• Restrooms will be available near the Gathering Room.

• You will be required to wear a mask upon entering the church and to sanitize your hands before

entering the Sanctuary.

• Please note: There will be no hymnals (we will be using video projection on our new TVs.)

We will not be doing congregational singing at this time. If you want a Bible you will have

to bring your own and there will be not bulletins at this time.

• Worship services will be slightly shorter—from 30 to 40 minutes so we can adhere to the Face-

book Video recording recommendations. We are limited to seating 25 people in the sanctuary and

25 people in the overflow seating in the Family Life Center. Pastor Mary will offer a time of pray-

er after the camera is turned off each Sunday. You are encouraged to remain seated and lift up

personal prayers.

• Please refrain from hugging and maintain a safe 6 ft social distance at all times.

• Nursery and Sunday School classes will not be offered yet. Children are welcome to sit

with their parents. Children’s worship kits will be available if needed.

• Groups of 25 or less may request a meeting time in the building by contacting Charlie

Shore. Please note this is on a first come basis and priority will be given to our senior members

and church groups and will be at the discretion of the Trustees’ cleaning schedule.

1K for 1Kid

At Methodist Home for Children, these are the children God has en-trusted to our care: Juvenile offenders, unparented, failing in school, looking in the wrong place for acceptance; teenagers, struggling with mental illness and substance abuse; children, neglected and abused. 1K for 1Kid buys time to heal and food to nourish. It buys clothes and childcare. It means a 6-yr-old can be protected and a 16-year-old can learn a skill. $1,000 for each child in our care means children can be safe. They can be wrapped in warm blankets, play with friends, go to school and graduate, go to college or learn a skill. They can meet adults who will mentor and guide them; they can volunteer in the com-munity making it a better place. These are children who can grow into the future God prefers for them.
