FY16/1H Results by Segment : Revenue

Functional Materials ¥132.5 billion (YoY: 95%)

●Electronics Materials and Printed Wiring Board Materials： - Sales of die bonding materials and copper-clade laminates were up due to their usage in new applications. - Despite higher sales to the Chinese market, sales of epoxy molding compounds were down due to foreign exchange influences.

●Inorganic Materials： - Sales of carbon anode materials were relatively unchanged year on year as the impacts of the decline in demand for PC-use products were offset by higher sales of products for use in eco-friendly automobiles.

● Polymer Science Materials： - Despite higher sales to the Chinese market of products for use in smartphones, sales of anisotropic conductive films for displays were down due to foreign exchange influences.

●Automotive Products： - Despite the acquisition of new orders, sales of plastic molded products were down due to the impacts of the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake. - Despite the acquisition of new orders, sales of powder metal products were down due to foreign exchange influences.

●Energy Storage Devices and Systems： - Sales of batteries for forklift and uninterruptible power supply batteries for overseas increased, but overalls sales were down due to lower sales of batteries for new vehicles in Japan and foreign exchange influences.

●Automotive Products Second-half sales are expected to increase over first-half sales due to the startup of new projects, but operations will still be impacted by generally sluggish automobile demand and foreign exchange influences.

●Energy Storage Devices and Systems While the second half is a high-demand period, domestic sales of new automobiles lack their usual vigor and the impacts of foreign exchange influences are to be felt; first-half declines will not be compensated for as a result.

Despite efforts to have products used for new applications in next-generation semiconductor packages and eco-friendly automobiles, sales are forecast to decrease over the second half of the fiscal year due to the slowdown seen in the smartphone and other electronics market sectors and the impacts of foreign exchange influences.
