Support our Parkinson’s Community ...

VOLUNTEER!

Volunteers are at the heart of what Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario does – helping to ease the burden and to find a cure for people

living with Parkinson’s.

If your organization does not currently have a volunteer program, encourage your employer to participate in corporate volunteering and name Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario as your charity of choice.

Youth Volunteering

Young people can use their volunteer service as a way to learn work skills, establish employment experience and prove their abilities. Youth volunteers bring enthusiasm and energy to their volunteer activities and help create a better community. (High school students can also obtain their required hours of community service.)

Healthcare Professional Volunteers

Volunteer trainers are needed for PEP (Parkinson Education Program) for Community Caregivers to ensure that people living withadvanced Parkinson’s receive better quality care and enhanced dignity in their home or healthcare facilities. We are currently looking for healthcare professionals (OT, PT, RN, Pharmacists, etc.) interested in being trained to give effective Parkinson in-service presentations in their own communities.

Community Partnership Event Hold your own event to benefit Parkinson’s. Organize your own garage sale, golf tournament, tea party, casual days at work, games night or any other event that interests you. Be creative! We are grateful for all your contributions.

Why Volunteer?

• Increase self-confidence• Strengthen social skills• Learn or enhance skills• Try something new

By volunteering, you offer Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario many benefits including:

• Being a critical link to the community• Offering a fresh perspective and keeping us

current• Helping us become more responsive to the

community• Helping build support and awareness within

the community• Bringing experience, knowledge and

expertise to the organization• Keeping our organization accountable

Family Volunteering

Family volunteering is a win-win activity. Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario benefits by offering services to those living with Parkinson’s and you benefit by enjoying quality time together as a family.

As parents, we have the opportunity to show our children how volunteering can make a difference in the lives of others.

Group Volunteering

If your group is looking for something to do in the community, consider volunteering for Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario. We have various projects throughout the region that would benefit people living with Parkinson’s and their families.

If you belong to a service club, community group or business that already holds an event, ask if they would consider donating the proceeds to support people with Parkinson’s.

Corporate Volunteering

Studies have shown that organizations involved in corporate volunteering have better employee retention while their employees have higher morale and increased skill building. Employer supported volunteerism gives companies the opportunity to make a positive impact in their community and demonstrate that they make giving back a priority.1

Contact your human resources department and find out if your organization has a volunteer program. Some organizations donate or match pledges for their employees’ volunteer efforts.
