FROM THE DESK OF FR. MARC SHERLOCK!At our Easter Vigil Mass, Adam Scott Howard Leist was initiated into the Catholic Church, receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist. Daniel Benton Verrill was received into Full Communion with the Catholic Church by a Profession of Faith and receiving the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist. Russell John Fuller completed his Christian Initiation by receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Congratulations to Adam, Daniel and Russell! May the suffering, death and resurrection of the Lord strengthen our faith and hope during the 50 days of this Easter Season!
This week, we are taking up the Catholic Relief Services Collection to respond to Jesus in disguise. This collection helps six Catholic agencies to provide relief and support to struggling communities and to work toward peace and reconciliation among our marginalized brothers and sisters here and around the world. Please prayerfully consider how you can support the collection. Learn more at www.usccb.org/catholic-relief.
THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER APRIL 30, 2017
CATHOLIC UPDATE for April features; GOD’S GIFT TO US: AMORIS LAETITIA AND THEOLOGY OF THE BODY by Manuel P. Santos, MD and Karee Santos. This is an oft
misunderstood topic often abbreviated TOB, it is based on a series of Papal addresses given by now St. John Paul II. In a nutshell; “Theology of the Body is the theology of love. It teaches us how to translate our love from vague feelings into concrete deeds that shape the world.” It is such an important part of our understanding of God’s love for us and how we should love that the Archdiocese of Cincinnati has included portions of it in the Graded Course of Study for Religious Education programming at all age levels. Grab a copy of this Update to learn more as Doctor and Mrs. Santos take us through this delicate subject. If you would like copies of past Catholic Updates, please contact Deacon Chuck Wright at the Parish Office.
Prayer: Creator God, as we celebrate Earth Day this year, help us to be wise, generous and courageous in caring for the earth and all who dwell within it so all may experience Your love and mercy through our actions. Papal Quote: “The human environment and the natural environment deteriorate
together: we cannot adequately combat environmental degradation unless we attend to causes related to human and social degradation. In fact, the degradation of the environment and of society affect the most vulnerable people on the planet: Both everyday experience and scientific research show that the gravest effects of all attacks on the environment are suffered by those who are most poor. – Pope Francis, Laudato Si’, no. 48 Caring for Creation: As many of us undertake spring cleaning projects, it’s important to remember that the cost of commercial, chemical-based cleaning products can be high –long term health concerns for the family, and environmental pollution caused by their manufacture and disposal. The good news is that for many home-cleaning chores, you can make your own environmentally-friendly cleaning products.
40 DAYS FOR LIFE – SPECIAL THANKS to those who came to pray for the unborn at the Kettering abortion clinic: Tami Kueterman, Elizabeth Kueterman, Terri Heberling, Jane Kiser, Phil & Lois Cox. We appreciated the beautiful weather, making our time spent there much easier! While walking the sidewalk and observing the trees beginning to flower, I couldn’t help but feel the contrast to the grey, sad building before us. If walls could talk, I’m sure they would be sobbing. However, what gives me hope is that babies are being saved and abortion clinics have been closing because of 40 Days for Life days like ours. Since 2007-2016, 12,668 babies’ lives have been reported saved and over 75 abortion centers have closed. It has been a long, slow process, but people are becoming more aware of this present-day holocaust and are taking a stand for life. Thank you God! Yours in Christ, Judie McKitrick
