RWC/AUS launched SharkBite PVC Pipe Transition Fittings for quick Connection

PVC pipe transition fittings

PVC pipe transitions have never been easier / Repair - don’t replace - and stay on pace

KWD-globalpipe, 27.05.2016. Engineers of RWC created SharkBite PVC transition fittings for creat-ing quickly and more efficiently a PVC-to-CTS pipe transition that did not require glues or tools.

SharkBite’s patented push-to-connect technology has been re-engineered to connect PVC pipe (Sch. 40, 80 and 120) to Copper, PEX, CPVC or PE-RT pipe with no solder, clamps, unions or glue. The line - launched in August 2015 - includes

transition couplings, slip couplings, slip tees and male adapters in sizes ½”, ¾” and 1″, and the dual-toned collar ends make matching the fitting ends to the correct pipe material a breeze.

Repair - don’t replace - and stay on pace: Installers can save time and money by repairing existing PVC pipe rather than replacing it. There is a depth gauge and disconnect clip specifically designed for PVC pipe sizes, making disassembly fast and easy. There’s no primer or glue required, mak-ing quicker installation time for PVC pipe, and allowing you to maintain a consistent, quick install pace. And most importantly, these transition fittings connect Copper, PEX, CPVC or PE-RT pipe in any combination.

DPI Plastics/ZAF Ultrapipe for Sewer Applications promotes PVC Recycling

PVC pipes

Ultrapipe from DPI Plastics features a multi-layered construction engineered to deliver all the attributes of a world-class sewer pipe while promoting the use of recycled PVC.

KWD-globalpipe, 27.05.2016. DPI Plastics introduced its Ultracor multi-layer SANS 1601 sewer pipe to the South African market in 2002. This consisted of three virgin or ‘first use’ layers: namely, an inner and outer

PVC wall, together with a foamed inner core. When compared to its sewer pipe predecessor (the SANS 791 Durodrain pipe), Ultracor was a lighter, more cost-effective and material-efficient sewer pipe that quickly gained ground in the market.

Over the years, extensive research and development by DPI Plastics and its ongoing commitment to increase its use of recy-cled PVC resulted in the development of Ultrapipe, which repre-sented the ongoing evolution of Ultracor. Ultrapipe also utilises ‘skins’ manufactured from virgin PVC material. However, the foamed core is manufactured from recycled PVC. The skins cover the core and are in contact with the effluent and surround-ing environment. While specifiers and contractors were initially hesitant to use this greener alternative, today Ultrapipe outsells Ultracor sewer pipe at a ratio of 4:1 as consumers choose more environment-friendly alternatives to traditional sewer products.

“PVC is the most popular material for sewer pipes worldwide due to its high strength and stiff-ness, toughness, low cost, ease of installation, chemical resistance and full system availability of pipes and fittings,” Renier Snyman, technical and product manager, DPI Plastics, points out.

“As per the SANS 1601 standard, we are only allowed to utilise recycled material from our own processes. We therefore have full history of the raw material and its ingredients, providing greater confi-dence and peace of mind for our customers,” Snyman comments.

Ultrapipe complies with the minimum stiffness requirements of SANS 1601. It is manufactured in both medium-duty (200 KPa or SN 4) and heavy-duty (400 KPa or SN 8) versions. “Our full range of PVC sewer fittings are rated heavy-duty, and can therefore be used with any class of sewer pipe. In fact, the stiffness of our fittings far exceeds 400 KPa,” Snyman notes.

DPI Plastics was also the first company in South Africa to introduce ribbed fittings, providing lower weight with increased performance. “The size and shape of the ribs on our fittings was optimised to provide high stiffness and maintain overall rigidity,” Snyman explains.

Ultrapipe is available in the popular size range of 110-250mm. It is supplied with integral sockets and rubber seals, or can be joined by solvent welding, providing leak-free restrained joints.

DPI Plastics/ZAF Investments: Replacing of older Moulds – New large-bore Line

New large-bore extrusion line / Replacing of older moulds and fittings / PVC and HDPE pipes

DPI Plastics, a leading manufacturer of PVC and HDPE water reticulation and drainage pipe and fitting systems, has embarked on various capital-intensive projects to boost the quality and productivity at its Johannesburg and Bellville manufacturing facilities.

KWD-globalpipe, 27.05.2016. These initiatives include an ongoing mould replacement program in Johannes-

burg, which has seen the production of a brand-new mould for 50mm bend pipe fittings.

“We are replacing some of the older moulds and fittings, in most cases opting for new multi-cavity moulds,” Renier Snyman, technical manager at DPI Plastics, explains. “First of all, this will improve the quality of the fittings, without altering the dimensions. Secondly, it will also result in a dramatic increase in production output,” Snyman points out. “This is quite a capital-intensive pro-gram as these moulds are costly to produce.” Snyman reveals that DPI Plastics will take delivery of its new P-trap mould from Portugal within the next couple of months. The addition of a second large-bore extrusion line at its Johannesburg manufacturing facility is another important development of DPI Plastics. This follows on from the installation of the original Krauss Maffei 630mm bore extrusion line in 2013.

“Our big bore lines are so highly occupied at the moment that it has resulted in a significant lead time, which is the main motivation for us to install another large-bore line,” Snyman comments. For example, DPI Plastics is supplying 630mm pipe for a major irrigation project in Zambia at the mo-ment. Snyman adds that, in addition to the new big bore line, DPI Plastics will also be adding a new smaller extrusion line dedicated solely to research and development purposes, which makes the company unique among pipe manufacturers in South Africa.

TEPPFA: New President nominated – What would the World be without Plastics?

Personnel

Maarten Roef, CEO of Wavin, was nominated President of TEPPFA as of April 6, 2016. Who is this plastics enthusiast and what is his vision for TEPPFA and the plastic pipes and fittings industry.

KWD-globalpipe, 27.05.2016. Maarten Roef is a real insider in the plastics industry. His passion for plastics dates back from his first job at DSM, when he discovered the amazing capacities of plastics

and the many shapes and forms plastics can take. "What would the world be without plastics?" he wonders, as he points out what the weight would be of his mobile phone and car if it weren't for plastics.

Most sustainable material: Maarten gets even more enthused when it comes to the contribution of plastic pipes and fittings to the wellbeing of people, for example in sanitation and water supply, but also in relation to sustainability. He feels the bad image plastic has is completely outdated: "Take for example the lifespan of a plastic pipe, it can last for 100 years underground without leakages. Also plastic pipes can reduce energy consumption and can be recycled between 5-10 times. Altogether, there is no other material that offers that kind of sustainability. Our industry is taking the lead in the circular economy and together as TEPPFA, we should focus on creating a greater understanding and acknowledgement of the part that the plastic pipe industry can play in meeting the ambitions for a circular economy."

Proactive towards needs of stakeholders: Maarten's ambitions are clear: "I believe we are a very innovative industry. The priority for us is listening to and acting on the needs of our stakeholders together more proactively." Maarten believes this needs to be done "together with all TEPPFA mem-bers" and is convinced this can be achieved "because of the very strong TEPPFA team."

What Maarten brings to the table: In addition to his passion for plastics, Maarten brings 25 years of personal experience in the plastics and packaging industry. He has played various roles within TEPPFA in the last 15 years and as Wavin's CEO he also brings the expertise from Mexichem to the table, of which Wavin is part. Mexichem is one of the biggest producers of plastic pipe systems worldwide and Wavin is a highly innovative company that is a frontrunner in recycling. Maarten is determined to "share his passion and beliefs with all stakeholders" in the coming years.

Astral/IND: The only one with NSF approved Product in CPVC in the Indian Market

Certifications / PVC-C pipes

In a Question-and-Answer Session of Astral it was asked, how the competitive environment has been seen because there are coming a lot of new players into CPVC market.

KWD-globalpipe, 27.05.2016. CPVC specifically is the core business of Astral. The industrial and CPVC or the Industrial division is one of the

fastest growing divisions also for Astral.

“How do you see the competitive environment because we keep hearing that a lot of new players are coming into CPVC, a couple of the small players have made a tie up with other global CPVC players like Sencorp”, Maulik Patel asked in the Question-and-Answer Session in the “Astral Poly Technik Limited Q3FY16 Earnings Conference Call” on February 10, 2016.

“To be very frank that CPVC is the most talked about Polymer today of India”, Sandeep Engi-neer, Managing Director of Astral Poly Technik Ltd., answered. “It relates to the history how Astral has grown and other companies have grown too together. So the quality is going to play a big issue in this segment and that is the key factor to the whole of this Polymer. There maybe 80, 90, 100

Page 5: Contents of KWD-globalpipe 601, May 27, 2016 · Ultrapipe also utilises ‘skins’ manufactured from virgin PVC material. However, the foamed core is manufactured from recycled PVC

players today but delivering of the product because it is a high pressure temperature application which is very important. I do not deny that people cannot make those qualities, but especially the material from China is still to be proven in a big way. Secondly, Japanese material maybe good but the manufacturer who makes the compound the best one has to do work on it, has to be with the best compound with all the quality issues in the consideration. There are challenges around. I cannot say that we do not have challenges.”

“The quality or the consistency or the deliverability of Astral is far better compared to the com-petition in the market because we are the only company still sustaining the NSF approved product, nobody in India still has got NSF approved product in CPVC in the Indian market. It is one of the highest benchmarks with ISI, NSF and WPC-1 also is a very high accredited approval from United States. These approvals whether you use anything you can get it, but then you have to make the best of the formulations, you have to deliver the best of the product, consistency has to be maintained, a lot of factors come into effect to deliver the quality of a product.

Supreme/IND is authorized producing FlameGuard® CPVC Fire Sprinkler Systems

PVC-C fire sprinkler

Every day 54 persons die in fire accidents in India. Automatic fire sprinkler system plays an important role in controlling fire in its initial stage as most of the fires get extinguished in initial stage.

KWD-globalpipe, 27.05.2016. On this fact Maharashtra fire Department made instal-ments of fire sprinkler system compulsory

in each and every residential room in building above 45m.

The CPVC fire sprinkler system overcomes all disadvantages of the traditional system. The water filled weight of the system is only 40% than that of the metal system. The system is totally free from corrosion and the minimum life expectancy is of 50 years against 15 years for the traditional system. Though in one to one comparison of material for the system is expensive but the ad-vantages offered by it far outweighs the increased cost.

There are only two companies in the world which manufac-tures the UL listed CPVC compound for the fire sprinkler system. Both are based in the USA. One is Lubrizol with brand name of Blazemaster. The other is Spears with brand name of FlameGuard.

Supreme has tied up with Spears Manufacturing Company and started manufacturing pipes from the imported compound from Spears. The Company is authorized to use “FlameGuard” brand on its CPVC fire sprinkler system, therefor they are manufacturing pipes under Brand name “Supreme FlameGuard”.

Supreme’s pipes are UL listed in July, 2015, and they also have passed the BIS testing. Shortly the company will get the necessary BIS license for marking the CPVC fire sprinkler pipe.

Supreme has launched this system in Mumbai City early this year, as well in Sri Lankan Market along with its collaborators. The Company is hopeful that it will soon cater to Sri Lankan requirement also for the same product and continues to expand its reach by appointing distributors in areas where there is a gap. The Company’s Piping System is now available in several parts of the Country.

The “Supreme’’ Brand in plastic piping system enjoys immense reputation among architects and plumbing consultants.

Indian PVC Pipe & Fitting Market to reach Rs 32,700 Cr in FY2020 by Ken Research

Indian PVC pipes and fittings market report

Ken Research announced its latest publication on “India PVC Pipes and Fittings Industry Outlook to 2020 - Expanding Irrigated Area and Construction Sector to Stimulate Growth” which provides a comprehensive analysis of the PVC Pipes and Fittings Industry in India.

KWD-globalpipe, 27.05.2016. The Indian PVC pipes and fittings industry, which comprises of segments such as RPVC, PVC and CPVC pipes and fittings has grown significantly over the last few years due to the increase in the demand from irrigation sector on account of the burgeoning population and uncertain weather conditions in the country.

The PVC pipes and fittings industry in India is highly fragmented. The market revenues have grown at a CAGR of 13.4% from FY’2010-FY’2015. There is a stiff competition in the market with a large number of organized and unor-ganized players engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of PVC pipes and fittings in the country.

Page 7: Contents of KWD-globalpipe 601, May 27, 2016 · Ultrapipe also utilises ‘skins’ manufactured from virgin PVC material. However, the foamed core is manufactured from recycled PVC

KWD-globalpipe 601 May 27, 2016

www.kwd-globalpipe.com page 7

Some of the major players in the industry such as Finolex Industries Limited, Jain Irrigation Sys-tems Limited, Supreme Industries, Prince Pipes and Fittings Private Limited, Astral Poly Technik Limited and others with Jain Irrigation Systems occupying the largest share in the organized sector in FY'2015 in terms of production capacity.

The India PVC pipes and fittings market will grow at a double digit CAGR over the period FY’2015-FY’2020 and is projected to reach INR 327 billion by FY’2020 according to the research report. The launch of new products, improved penetration of the companies with expanding distribu-tion network and significant role played by the government in the development of irrigation infrastruc-ture and real estate sector in the country will bolster the growth in the industry. Besides, a deficient and uneven rainfall in the country is expected to increase the demand for irrigation systems in the coming years, which will boost the demand for PVC pipes, tubes and hoses.

“PVC pipes will gradually replace conventional piping systems in the market due to their lower cost and higher durability. CPVC pipes are expected to register fastest growth in terms of the produc-tion capacity in the next 5 years from FY’2015-FY’2020. Rising acceptance of CPVC pipes over galvanized or PVC pipes will lead to the growth in the future. The organized segment of the market is predicted to grow at a faster rate in the coming years with shifting preferences towards branded and quality products being witnessed in the domestic market”, according to the Research Analyst, Ken Research.

Indians’s Water & Sanitation Crisis – India needs Solutions now

Water and sanitation crisis in India

Quick Facts: Population of 1.2 billion / 77 million lack access to safe water / 769 million lack access to improved sanitation / Only 33% of the country has access to traditional sanitation / 59% of the total population lives on less than US$2 per day

KWD-globalpipe, 27.05.2016. With a diverse population that is three times the size of the United States but one-third the physical size, India has the second largest population in the world. According to the World Bank, India has taken significant steps to reduce poverty but the number of people who live in poverty is still highly disproportionate to the number of people who are middle-income, with a combined rate of over 52% of both rural and urban poor.

Although India has made improvements over the past decades to both the availability and quality of municipal drinking water sys-tems, its large population has stressed planned water resources and rural areas are left out. In addition, rapid growth in India's urban areas has stretched government solutions, which have been compromised by over-privatization.

Regardless of improvements to drinking water, many other water sources are con-taminated by sewage and agricultural runoff, and over 21% of the country's diseases are water-related. Furthermore, only 33% of the country has access to traditional sanitation. Many rural communities in India who are situated on the outskirts of urban sprawl also have little choice but to drill wells to access groundwater sources.

Page 8: Contents of KWD-globalpipe 601, May 27, 2016 · Ultrapipe also utilises ‘skins’ manufactured from virgin PVC material. However, the foamed core is manufactured from recycled PVC

KWD-globalpipe 601 May 27, 2016

www.kwd-globalpipe.com page 8

Hygiene practices also continue to be a problem in India. Latrine usage is extremely poor in rural areas of the country; only 14% of the rural population has access to a latrine. Hand washing is also very low, increasing the spread of disease. In order to decrease the amount of disease spread through drinking-water, latrine usage and hygiene must be improved simultaneously.

India's water crisis is often attributed to lack of government planning, increased corporate privatization, industrial and human waste and government corruption. In addition, water scarcity in India is expected to worsen as the overall population is expected to increase to 1.6 billion by year 2050. To that end, global water scarcity is expected to become a leading cause of national political conflict in the future, and the prognosis for India is no different.

New Delhi Government: Piped Water to all Households in the City by 2017

Drinking water pipelines to Indian capital’s households

The government had prepared an aggressive action plan to ensure piped water supply to all parts of the capital while the quality of water would be the other key issue, Water minister Kapil Mishra said in March 2016.

KWD-globalpipe, 27.05.2016. In the 2015-16 budget, the government had kept Rs 1,468 cr or 7.73% of the budget allocation for the water and sewerage sectors. Officials said there could be a substan-tial increase in this year's budget.

The Delhi government will fulfil the goal of supplying piped water to all households of the city by 2017, Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has announced on March 19, 2016. This will be one massive task this year. The other major area will be the quality of drinking water.

Construction Industry India with bright Prospects – 5.65% Growth by Timetric

Indian construction market report

Increasing investments in residential construction and transport infrastructure will drive growth in India’s construction industry over the forecast period (2016–2020), according to a study by Timetric’s Construction Intelligence Center (CIC).

KWD-globalpipe, 27.05.2016. Consequently, the average annual growth in real terms is expected to improve from of 2.95% in 2011–2015 to 5.65% during the coming five years. Timetric’s CIC forecasts the industry to rise from a value of US$428.1 billion in 2015 to US$563.4 billion in 2020, measured at constant 2010 US dollar exchange rates.

Due to industrialization, urbanization, a rise in disposable income and popu-lation growth the demand for construction services is set to rise. Government efforts to improve India’s residential and transport infrastructure will also play a vital role in supporting the growth.

Infrastructure construction to pick up: Infrastructure construction accounted for 23.0% of the total industry’s value in 2015. It will continue to expand over the forecast period, driven by public and private sector investments in public transport infrastructure. Consequently, infrastructure construction is anticipated to be the industry’s fastest-growing market over the forecast period, with a CAGR of 9.94% in nominal terms, to value INR9.5 trillion (US$140.1 billion) in 2020.

“The country’s expanding population and urbanization will continue to generate a need for infrastructure development. To improve trade competitiveness and cope with the population growth, the government is focusing more on infrastructure development, which is expected to result in regular investments in the maintenance and expansion of road infrastructure in the near future,” comments Danny Richards, Economist at Timetric’s CIC.

Residential construction to dominate the industry: Residential construction was the largest mar-ket in the Indian construction industry during 2011-2015, and is anticipated to remain relatively siza-ble over the next five years, with a 30.6% share of the industry’s total value in 2020. Construction activity in the residential market will be supported by rapid urbanization, population growth, and posi-tive developments in regional economic conditions. Government efforts to clear slum areas by 2022 and reduce the country’s housing deficit will also help the market grow.
