Biosecurity • Reduce the risk • Ensure staff/contractors are fully aware of
biosecurity and what is required • Disinfection dilution rates correct • Barriers /boot changes complied with • Shavings/litter undercover • Biosecurity audit • Fence off ponds • Risk of flooding

Failure to observe the measures required in this licence is an offence under Section 73 of the Animal Health Act 1981. The penalty on conviction of an offence under this section is a maximum of six months imprisonment and/or a £5,000 fine.
Preparation:
• Housing – Can you house birds for an extended period. Netting, feeders, drinkers
• Storage of litter, waste water, dead, eggs • Staff awareness, reassurance • Bird welfare – Overstocking, pecking, catch • Visitor Book – Contact details available • Ensure supplying hatcheries, processors, egg

Infected Premise IP:
• APHA will place farm in restriction
• Important to ensure infected area kept as far
back off road as possible.
• Senior person to co-ordinate on farm activities
• Contain & Control – limit phone calls
• Contractors may be unfamiliar with working in a
poultry environment
• Senior person to deal with Tracings/Epidemiology
• May be necessary to translate Restriction Notices
• Other farms placed under Restriction if any
contacts with infected IP
Tracings:
• Vehicle driver movements • Went back 40 days • 35 farms visited, some twice • Visits by APHA OVS • Limited understanding of biosecurity protocols • Could and did place farms under Restriction
