How effective are they?
If the progestin-pill is used properly, it is 99.6% effective
(4 in 1,000 women will get pregnant per year).1-6
Function:
Pill containing the hormone progestin that prevents the
ovum from being fertilized and lodging itself into the wall of
the womb.
Advantages:
Estrogen-free, can also be used during breast-feeding.
Note:
Must be taken in a three-hour time window,
this means it requires great discipline in
administration, or within a 12-hour
window with newer progestin-only
pills; irregular cycles are possible.
Recommended for:
Women who are estrogen intolerantand who are able to maintain strict
discipline regarding when to take
the pill. Women during lactation.

How effective is this?

become pregnant per year).1-6
Function:
Plastic-shaped T wound with copper wire which prevents
the mobility of sperm, and prevents the ovum from lodging
itself into the wall of the womb.
Advantages:
The IUD provides a long-term contraceptive option.
Note:
Insertion into the uterus and regular check-ups by the
doctor, higher risk of inflammation and ectopic pregnancy.
Often causes increased cramping, dizziness, and heavier,
prolonged periods.
Recommended for:
Women who have already given birth and who areintolerant to hormones.
