G olnaz afkhami and ali hassannia were married on september 13, 2014 at the fairmont waterfront hotel, vancouver. The creative couple—Golnaz, an interior designer/project manager and Ali, an interactive designer—had a strong vision
for their day and planned their very own dream celebration.
The pair assembled a talented team of Vancouver wedding professionals to bring their ultra-modern wedding to life in just under two months. “Our biggest priority when planning the event was finding vendors who understood our modern vision. ‘Less is more’ is the perfect way to describe the overall look,” shares the couple. Jaleh Fotoohi of jevents planning & design was hired to provide day-of assistance.
Groom Ali designed all of the stationery for the event along with the blue and black custom wedding monogram that was used across the decor. “The monogram incorporated elements that have sentimental value for both Golnaz and I. It was designed with the idea of how we were then, before marriage, and where we were headed, complete unity. The logo's backbone is the X, much like multiplication it unites the elements across from one another into one. Our initials are separated by the X awaiting to be compounded into one. The heart, symbolizing our love, will become immortal once crossed with infinity,” says Ali.
In keeping with the modern theme, guests were invited to the wedding via an online video invitation. Golnaz wore a white gown with crystal-embellished, spaghetti straps and a frothy skirt that she custom designed with Ali. chic alteration in North Vancouver assisted with dress alterations. Her flower-shaped diamond earrings from lugaro jewellers were a gift from her parents and she wore a matching ring that was a wedding gift from her in-laws.

The couple’s traditional Persian wedding ceremony took place in the foyer adjacent to the ballroom at the fairmont waterfront hotel, vancouver. The space was decorated with a custom white floor for the occasion, and guests were seated on crystal Louis Ghost chairs from loungeworks. The focal point of the space was the couple’s exquisite sofreh (Persian wedding table) designed by Evan Orion at flowerz. The table featured different types of white flowers beautifully placed in white and clear rectangular vases. Oversized, white paper flowers adorned the sofreh and an all-white backdrop was positioned behind the couple. “The design was clean, fresh, sharp, and architectural,” recalls Golnaz.

Event designer Evan Orion of flowerz created a light and airy atmosphere in the Waterfront Ballroom for the couple’s reception. A stark white floor and a series of clear rectangular dining tables were set up in the space. A 3D rendering of the room, designed by Ali, was a modern approach to a seating chart and allowed the 300 guests to easily find their seats. The wedding monogram also appeared on the custom white floor produced by minuteman press burnaby and showmax events. Showmax Events additionally provided uplighting for the event that echoed the blue hue of the bridesmaids dresses.

SWEETFINALE The couple worked closely with cynthia's custom cakes to design a collection of five all-white wedding cakes. The rectangular-shaped cakes featured unique designs that complemented the event decor.
Guests enjoyed a lavish buffet catered by the fairmont waterfront hotel, vancouver.
“Everyone complimented the food and the service was amazing,” notes Golnaz.
DJ Armin from hamraaz music performed through-out the celebration, and Farshad Edalat from the band dirty radio brought the party to life in the evening with a drum performance. The team from brellow was on hand to capture the entire event on film.
Golnaz and Ali credit their amazing team of wedding professionals for bringing their dream day to life in lightning speed. “None of this would have happened if it wasn't for our vendors, especially flowerz who went above and beyond to help us achieve our look” says Golnaz.
The Vancouver-based couple will be honeymooning in Greece later this year. “We plan to enjoy the heat, scenery, and blue water. We can hardly wait,” shares Golnaz.
