JUST FOR FUN!A Message from “Just for Fun” Program Chair Jill Kramer

Welcome to ISRI2015 and to the beautiful city of Vancouver, British Columbia!

ISRI has once again produced an absolutely amazing program for recyclers and

their guests while we are here enjoying this great place.

Year after year, the ISRI convention is the largest gathering of recycling professionals to be found anywhere in the world. And, while the primary agenda

of this convention is business, my job is to make sure we add some fun as well.

Several years ago, ISRI created its “Just for Fun” program to be more than just

a program for spouses. We wanted to create programs that were entertaining,

educational, and informative for the balance of our lives outside the workplace.

And this year’s program is one of the best.

Vancouver is a major culinary destination city with amazing restaurants in every

part of the city. We have chosen to have our “Just for Fun” programs this year

expand on that theme.

Thursday afternoon will feature a presentation by The Food Network’s own Iron

Chef Alex Guarnaschelli, Executive Chef New York’s Butter Midtown restaurant.

Chef Alex has many years of experience as a culinary instructor and television

chef. She is often seen as a judge on The Food Network’s show “Chopped.”

THURSDAY, APRIL 23 2:00 p.m. in Room 118 of the Convention Centre.

Friday’s “Just for Fun” program takes us to Granville Island Market and to the Edible Canada Restaurant on the island. As its name suggests,

Edible Canada features products of all kinds grown and produced in Canada.

Participants will tour the expansive Granville Island Market, collecting ingredients

for later cooking demonstrations that will feature heavy audience participation.

Enjoy lunch after the presentations and time to shop among the local merchants

and artisans of Granville Island. Please note that this tour is limited to 70

participants! You can reserve your space by signing up at ISRI Registration.

FRIDAY, APRIL 24 Buses depart at 10:00 a.m. from the Jack Poole Plaza entrance of the

Convention Centre and will return to the Centre by 4:00 p.m.

Of course, we’ll also have opportunities to see one another at the many food

events, receptions, and parties throughout the program. I am really looking

forward to seeing my many friends and making new ones – just for fun!

Sincerely,

Jill Kramer

STAN SLAP, AUTHOR AND CORPORATE STRATEGIST

Managers the world over have elaborate excuses to explain why poor performance is rarely their own fault and instead the result of forces beyond their control—

they’re quick to blame acts of God, mysterious forces of nature,

and global events. Are you managing in maddening times? Sure, but who cares? What’s important is what you do about it; the job of management is to bring good answers to bad circumstances. The least successful companies blame everything for their problems—everything except their own response to those problems. The most successful companies take the same accountability for their mistakes as for their successes. In this blistering, funny and empowering keynote speech, Stan will debunk the most common excuses for poor performance and provide the foundation for creating a solution mentality throughout any company.

Integrating Design for Recycling® Principles into Product DesignRoom 210

According to a November 2014 Harris Poll, Americans would be willing to spend 13% more (on average) on a product if it was fully recyclable. Eighty-one percent say they would like to see manufacturers and/or retailers display a “Recycling Guide” label on products. This panel discussion brings together previous ISRI Design for Recycling® Award winners to provide a look at Design for Recycling® manufacturing case studies as well as the challenges and opportunities presented when integrating DfR principles into product design.

Spotlight on AluminumBallroom D, Level 1

Aluminum has been widely regarded as the nonferrous metal with some of the brightest demand prospects. But terminal market prices for aluminum, aluminum physical market premiums, and aluminum-based scrap tags came under pressure late in the first quarter as concerns about excess Chinese supply, expectations for higher U.S. interest rates, and the shift in LME load-out rate rules likely contributed to the departure of more than one million metric tons of aluminum from LME warehouses since the middle of 2014. Don’t miss this year’s spotlight on aluminum as our experts identify the key aluminum market developments, financial and regulatory changes, and economic drivers that will shape the outlook for aluminum and aluminum scrap prices, inventories and demand going forward.

Spotlight on CopperBallroom D, Level 1

The copper market has exemplified how commodity prices, market fundamentals, and the economy have become increasingly disconnected.
