Conventions of a music video, ‘The Pretty Reckless’ Jessica Adam

• The use of flashing lights has been used here signifying the quick changes within the desobells.

• As there is a lot of black within this shot it is symbolic of evil and death therefore conforming to the stereotype that all rock bands worship the devil.

• It begins with a wide shot creating an tense atmosphere due to there being little exposure to light.

• As she is in the middle of the screen the audiences attention is drawn to her blond hair, being the main focus.

• Shortly after this we get an establishing shot of the band.

• By doing this the audience can see the whole band but ensuring that the lead singer is still the main focus.

• The guitarists conform to their stereotype as they have long hair.

• This is where the naritive of the music video takes place.

• The small girl in the red cloak symbolises red riding hood, being mysterious and breaking the rules.

• This isn't usually the place you would find a small girl in a wide space. It is desolate and isolated which signifies uncertainty.

• Here a low angle shot has been used to convey to the audience she has control and power in this situation.

• But contrasting this, the backing guitarist is in focus where as is not, allowing me to connote that he has much importance as well.

• By incorporating a shot close up shot of the instruments it reinforces the audience that this is a rock band.

• The background is red which symbolises danger therefore conveying that they are in an unsafe environment.

• Reinforces live aspects of the performance.

• But this subverts our expectations of a rock band due to the lead signer being a girl.

• As it uses aspects of live performance it is organic.

• The make up used is sinister as you cant make out the definition around her eyes.

• She subvert our expectations of a rock singer as she is blond and pretty whereas the stereotype is long dreads and not good looking.

• This is a powerful shot, CGI has been used to add in the fire making the location seem dangerous.

• this fits with the strong harsh beat being dramatic.
