about CONVO 2010:aNatOmy oF a CHriStian

What exactly is it that makes a person a Christian? Is it our beliefs? Is it our appearance? Or is it our actions?

I believe that our faith is a combination of what we know intellectu-ally, experience passionately, and live out radically. So, in order to help us understand our own faith, we have designed CONVO this year to help us examine the ANATOMY OF A CHRISTIAN.

What is the Anatomy of a Christian? As a team, we decided to explore the meaning of our proclaimed faith and how that get practiced in our lives. CONVO will explore the beliefs and thoughts of our HEAD, the love and faith of our HEART, and the daily actions and service of our HANDS. Our speaker, Mark Yaconelli, who specializes in youth spirituality will lead us in this exploration.

Personally, I hope that each person that attends CONVO this year will leave this retreat with a deeper understanding of where they are on their personal journey, a fuller knowledge of their basic beliefs, and abetter understanding of how they can actively and fully live out their faith in their lives. CONVO is intended to create an environment that will foster a safe, protective, and fun exploration of these things.

I invite all youth and youth workers to come together to celebrate, worship and examine their faith while having a great time in rallies, workshops, small groups, and a myriad of additional activities!

Kathryn Ginsberg, CONVO Planning Team Chair

WHat iS tHe yOUth seRViCe FUNd (YSF)?CONVO is almost here again and it is going to be a lot of fun, and it will also be a great opportunity to once again raise money for YSF (Youth Service Fund). YSF is a Mission fund that United Methodist Churches all over the world participate in, and it is

also the only completely youth-run service fund in the whole world.

Youth Service Fund money goes to great programs such as Nothing But Nets (an organization protecting against malaria in Africa). But the money is also spent locally, by fixing the rope swing at Camp Indianola and getting a new sound system at Lazy F. As always, we will be selling all kinds of items to raise money for YSF at CONVO, so don’t forget to bring a little extra money to help out.

I can’t wait to see you at CONVO this year!

a QUiCk Word abOUt CONVO 2010The Bishop’s CONVOcation for High School students was first held in the Pacific Northwest Conference in 1976. This makes CONVO 2010 the 35th installment in a long line of largely successful events. We hope this year’s incarnation will be worthy of this legacy of excellent events.

CONVO is planned annually by an excellent team of youth and supportive adults who are passionate about and dedicated to making this the best event it can be. This year is no exception. We are excited to invite you to another year of CONVO!

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you or your group as they plan to attend CONVO this year.
