From the Principal’s Desk

Hi everyone and welcome to Week 7. Firstly, can I start by

saying how great it is to be back at our wonderful, little

school learning with our amazing staff and students. A

huge thank you to Mrs Donnelly who led the school in my

absence and to Mr Martyn and Mrs Nixon for their

leadership during this time. Thank you also to Mrs

Loveday, Mrs Everingham, Ms Thoroughgood, Mr Jacob

Martyn and Mr Bradford for their assistance during this

time.

This week our three smaller differentiated groups started

in both of our classrooms. These groups will operate

during reading, writing and numeracy lessons from

Monday to Thursday each week. Mr Martyn will look after

our K-2 group, Mrs Donnelly and Mrs Nixon will oversee

the green group and I will teach the yellow group. Only

early days in this project’s implementation but both

students and teachers are already been talking about the

rich learning taking place in these groups and the huge

benefits from this small group learning.

Our music program continues to grow under the

leadership and instruction of Mr Jacob Martyn. I have

enjoyed visiting the music room each Thursday,

witnessing the improvement in each student’s learning in

this important area. Thanks once again to Mr Martyn for

his efforts with our students.

One of my other major projects since arriving back at

school has been to investigate ways of improving signage

around our school. We are currently looking at erecting a

school noticeboard behind the front fence and school

flags at the front driveway. We are hoping to have these

in place by the end of Term 1.

There are lots of wonderful learning activities planned

over the upcoming weeks including Harmony Day, Cross

Country, Colour Fun Run and Easter Hat Parade, so I look

forward to meeting with you then!

Debating Workshop

On Friday 6 March six Coolongolook students attended a

Debating Workshop at Laurieton Public School. It was an

amazing experience for the students to learn how to gain

confidence when arguing or rebutting in a debate. The

arguments included:

Should there be homework? Should we use plastic bottles? Should teachers join in sports days?

It was also a fantastic opportunity to meet students from

other schools and even play a quick game of handball.

A big thank you to Kelly Roberts for accompanying us on

this excursion.

Premier Reading Challenge

Information will be coming home in Week 8 for students to

join the 2020 NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge. Students

will be required to register online through their student

portal. If accessing the internet is difficult at home, we will

be here to help families at school.

Library

Our library is up and running. Library borrowing will be

each Friday morning where students can borrow books to

enjoy reading at home.

The ‘Premier Reading Challenge’ books will be available for

students once we have completed the student registration

process.

Harmony Day

Our diversity makes Australia a great place to live. Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity, a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home.

The message of Harmony Day is ‘Everyone Belongs’. The Day aims to engage our students to participate in their school community, respect cultural and religious diversity and foster a sense of belonging for everyone.

At Coolongolook Public School we have organised a morning of fun activities and we ask that all students wear orange to celebrate the day. Parents and Carers are welcome to join us to help celebrate Harmony Day with our activities. Wear Orange - Students are asked to wear orange on the day. Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Day. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect.

Easter Hat Parade

Our Easter Hat Parade will be held on Thursday April 9.

Notes will be coming home soon so switch on your

creativeness and start planning your hats.

P&C News

The next meeting will be held on

Tuesday 31 March at 2pm.

All parents and carers are welcome.

How to help prevent Head Lice

As Head Lice, continues to be an ongoing issue in all

schools. Here are some helpful hints to help prevent Head

Lice.

Always Put Up Long Hair First step is containing that long beautiful hair by putting it all up in a tight pony, plait or bun. The less strands of hair available for those annoying little bugs to swing from, the less chance they have of grabbing hold.

Hair Spray Once the hair is up and away, douse it in hair spray. Theory is that the hair becomes too gluggy and sticky for the nits to take hold of.

Tea Tree Oil/Lavender Oil A couple of drops of tea tree oil in your child’s shampoo or some lavender oil around their hairline is said to deter head lice.

Cheap Conditioner If you don’t want to use those chemicals, the next best option is cheap nasty conditioner. Lather your child’s dry hair and let the nits suffocate and then comb out.
