ABOUT US
Cooltra is the leading company in sustainable two-wheel mobility solutions in
Europe, founded by entrepreneur Timo Buetefisch. Born in Barcelona 14 years
ago, the company offers vehicle rentals to individuals, companies and public
administrations by minutes, days and months. It is present in 6 European
countries (Spain, Austria, France, Italy, Portugal and the Czech Republic), and
has a workforce of almost 400 employees. It currently has a fleet of more than
17,000 vehicles, of which 56% are electric motorcycles that operate with zero
emissions.
MOTIVATION AND HISTORY OF THE COMPANY
Passion for the world of motorcycles and business acumen led Timo Buetefisch
and brothers Henrik and Holger Sprengel to co-found Cooltra. It all started in
2006 when Timo’s scooter broke down in Barcelona and he had to leave it with
the mechanic for several weeks. It was then that he realised there were no
alternatives for renting mopeds for short periods of time in the city. Cooltra
was thus born from the personal needs of one of the founders, an ambitious
project that, after 14 years of hard work, has managed to become the European
leader in sustainable two-wheel mobility.

eCooltra’s newly launched motosharing service and went from being a beta-tester of the service to becoming its
director.
Timo Buetefisch Co-Founder and CEO
Born in Germany, Timo is a former consultant and MBA student at the IESE Business School who has been living in
Barcelona for 15 years. Before settling in the capital, he lived in Germany, Paris, Buenos Aires, Greece and Switzerland.
His entrepreneurial spirit always gave him the desire to create his own company. Today, he leads the largest provider
of sustainable two-wheel mobility solutions in Europe.
BRANDS
Cooltra offers two-wheel mobility solutions that range from
motorcycle rentals for days, -aimed at customers who need a
scooter for their holidays-, to monthly motorcycle rentals for both
individuals and companies.
The company is the market leader in terms of fleet size and
turnover. It is present in 6 European countries (Spain, France,
Italy, Portugal, Austria and the Czech Republic), in more than 20
cities and offers up to 100 points where customers can collect
their vehicles. It has shops spread out across the main European
tourist destinations, such as Barcelona, Madrid, the Balearic
Islands, the Canary Islands, Rome, Lisbon, Paris, etc. In addition,
it offers comprehensive assistance that includes everything: from
24/7 customer service to vehicle maintenance, repairs, taxes, etc.
(customer service or vehicle maintenance), in order to maximise
the customer experience.
The monthly motorcycle rental service, also called vehicle renting,
is aimed at both individuals who need a scooter for at least one
month without a minimum contract period or any other type of
commitment (for example, students who move to a city temporarily),
as well as companies of all types and public administrations that
need to incorporate a fleet of two-wheel vehicles on a rental basis
for anywhere from 1 to 36 months. Domino’s Pizza, Prosegur, Línea
Directa, Eulen or Missionbox, as well as Barcelona’s municipal
police force, already cover part of their vehicle fleet needs with
Cooltra motorcycles.
The company has recently launched a pioneering premium
intercity electric mobility service in Barcelona: Cooltra Prime,
which offers its users the option to travel medium distances with
BMW C Evolution motorcycles, equivalent to 125 cc. These vehicles
are 100% electric, with a range of around 100 km and a speed of up
to 120 km/h to move around the city with greater agility. Cooltra
Prime motorcycles can be picked up and parked in various
SABA car parks located in Barcelona, at the Josep Tarradellas
Barcelona-El Prat airport, and soon in Sant Cugat as well. The
company’s goal is to be able to offer a powerful electric mobility
solution with high-end motorcycles, broader geographical
coverage and a greater range for those users who need to travel
medium-long distances.
BRANDS
eCooltra, the company’s motosharing service, is number one in
terms of brand presence and recognition in Europe. Launched
in 2016, it is currently present in Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia,
Lisbon, Rome and Milan, with a fleet of more than 7,400 electric
vehicles and more than 1 million users. The app’s ease of use and
the ability to always find an available motorcycle close to home
are the brand’s differentiating values. In addition, it also offers its
own 24/7 customer service in case an incident occurs. Platform
users can move around their city simply by opening up the app
from their Android or iOS device. The energy that eCooltra uses
for its batteries comes from HolaLuz, and it is 100% clean energy.
Likewise, the support vehicles that the swappers use when they
change the batteries in the vehicles are also powered 100% by
electrical energy.

BRANDS
In 2020, Cooltra has launched a new service in Barcelona with
which it makes more than 600 electric bicycles available to users
in this city. The vehicles, which reach a speed of 25 km/h, can be
used from the eCooltra mobile application, and the area where
they can be ridden is the same as the scooters. The only difference
between booking a bicycle and a shared motorcycle is that a
driver’s license isn’t required to ride an eCooltra bike, and the only
requirement is to be over 18 years old.
The process to use a bicycle begins by reserving the closest bike
through the app and unlocking it from your mobile device. Once
the rider has reached their destination, they must leave the bicycle
anchored to a public bicycle parking rack, the metallic structures
with the shape of an “inverted U” located throughout the city, and
take a photograph from the app so that there is proof they have
parked the bicycle correctly.
