Achieving Success in a Caring Environment
SWIMMING CARNIVAL 2016 What a great day we had at the swimming carnival. I was lucky enough to attend Woodland Road Public School's swimming carnival and what a great carnival it was. I was extremely proud of our students today. Behaviour was impressive as was the sportsmanship shown by all competitors. The cheering and support given to each competitor was amazing. When it came time for free swimming the joy and happiness was infectious; well-done everyone! Ms Swan School Learning Support Officer. Congratulations to Logan Gibson, Christian Wardle, Devontay Zaglas, Rodney Lole, Aliza McKinnon, EmmaThomas, Cameron Nonenmacher, Natalie Mia Watts, and Pyper Pearson for making it through to Zone.
Poetry Public Speaking Competition Next week we are holding a poetry public speaking competition. The first aim of the competition is to act as an introduction to public speaking by presenting a poem to an audience. The second aim is to develop an appreciation of language through the imagery of poetry. In classes children have been studying a range of poems exploring different content and formats. Kindergarten is working with nursery rhymes. Students may also be given learning a poem as homework. We are encouraging every student to have a go. Teachers are going to select from their class 2 students to compete in each year group eg. 2D will choose 2 x Year 2 students; 3/4M will choose 2 students from Year 3 and 2 students from Year 4. Students will be judged on a year level.
Selected students will present Tuesday morning in the hall at 9am. One student from each year group will be selected to present at Thursday assembly and be presented with a prize.
Parents are welcome to attend both the Tuesday morning selection process( 16th February) as well as the whole school assembly on Thursday ( 25th February).

ATTENDANCE All children in NSW between the ages of 6 and 17 are required by law to attend school on any day that the school is open. If your child has an absence from school he/she is required to bring a note explaining that absence on the day that they return to school. Your child will shortly bring home a booklet of green Absence Notes for you to use when required. Not only is it important to be here at school but it is equally important to be punctual.
Do you have problems getting your child to school for any of these reasons?
Here are some suggestions that are based on setting regular routines:
* won’t get out of bed * have a set time to be out of bed
* won’t go to bed * have a set time to go to bed
* Can’t find their clothes, homework, shoes etc
* have uniform etc ready the night before
* school lunches not ready * make lunches the night before
* slow to eat breakfast * have a set time to start or end breakfast
* homework not done * set time for daily homework activities
* watching television when they should be getting ready
* turn the television on after children are ready for school
* test or presentation at school * be firm, children must go to school * birthday * be firm, a birthday is not a holiday
* screaming and/or not letting go of you * time arrival at school to coincide with the bell & leave quickly
Then…. ROUTINE IS VERY IMPORTANT

Achieving Success in a Caring Environment
Dear Parents and Caregivers I hope you and all of your families have had a safe and peaceful holiday. A very warm welcome is extended to all our new families joining our learning community. So far the beginning of Term One has been very smooth particularly with our beautiful new kinders who were very eager to start ‘big school’. I would like to welcome Shane Matthews our new Assistant Principal. Due to increased student numbers, we are eligible for 3 Assistant Principals. In the office we have:

Mrs Connor - School Administrative Manager
Mr Gruden - General Assistant
Our cleaners are supplied by ISS cleaning company; Pele and Ivonne.
School Car Park
For the safety of our children the school car park is not a general car park and there are restrictions in place. Parents are requested not to park in the car park, on the grassed areas between the hall and the fence or behind the Kindergarten block. The only children who are allowed to be dropped off or picked up from the school grounds are children with physical difficulties who have problems with their mobility. If you believe your child needs close access and support in this area please contact me. It is important that we kept our school grounds free from traffic between 8am to 3.15pm; thank you for your support.
Regards
Carol Gruden
