Mrs Rowthorne has worked tirelessly on this project which will continue to evolve at great benefit to our students and school. The garden looks terrific and our school has never looked better. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Christmas gifts for the children being held in Nairu detention centre, your support has been overwhelming. I’m sure these gifts will be greatly appreciated by children who are being incarcerated unnecessarily in direct violation of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child. The school was also happy to donate a Ukulele and sports equipment. Thanks to Julie and Ghita for organising this very worthy cause. If you still wish to contribute a gift please bring it along by Wednesday (26/11) as Julie & Ghita will be doing a final collection on Thursday. Last Friday’s assembly was particularly enjoyable as we were entertained by an outstanding performance by Class 1/2, followed by our special guests Danielle and Tom who showcased their musical talents while also explaining the importance and benefits of music tuition. We are hoping to expand our music/band program so please contact the North Coast Conservatorium. of Music if you would like your child/children to participate next year. Huge congratulations to Toby who was the recipient of the Principals award presented by Arlia. Last Thursday Kindergarten went on an excursion to the Australian Seabird Rescue centre in Ballina to learn more about turtles that they have been researching in class. Huge thank you to Mrs Rowthorne, Nick & Anna, Pob, Dean, Bradley, Anthony (Mrs Rowthornes hubby), Suryo, Quin and Al (General Assistant) for putting in a fantastic effort with establishing our garden/veggie patch last Friday in unseasonably sweltering conditions. Mrs Rowthorne has worked tirelessly on this project which will continue to evolve at great benefit to our students and school. The garden looks terrific and our school has never looked better.

Geoff Coghlan

Mrs Crawford's 2/3 class have been very fortunate to have Ibu Fran, Leila's mum, come in to teach us Indonesian every Monday afternoon. The lessons have been a great success and a lot of fun. We are very lucky to have Ibu Fran who speaks Indonesian fluently and she makes sure we are saying the words correctly with the right accent.

Theta Music Trainer COMMUNITY NEWS

Nearly 200 children, ranging in age from babies to teenagers, will spend this Christmas in the Detention Centre on Nauru.

We are collecting gifts to send to these children. If you would like to contribute, please deliver your gift to the hamper in the front office. We will deliver the gifts to the 'Mullumbimby Loves Refugees' group, who are sending the gifts to Nauru through Save The Children Australia.

New toys, books, games, art materials and puzzles would be wonderful. Very good quality second hand or 'As New' items will be acceptable too. Your gifts do not need to be wrapped.

Thank you,

Julie and Ghita Contact: [email protected]

Christmas Gift Appeal - Nauru Detention Centre

As Theta Music Trainer was a donation in itself, access is now available for every student - just in time for holiday learning fun!

To log in, go to http://trainer.thetamusic.com/ (or Google: Theta Music Trainer)

In the Members Log In area (right hand side) type in the student’s full (first and last) name, including spaces, hyphens (BUT NOT APOSTROPHES!) and capital letters.

The password is currently set the same as the name, but can be changed in the member’s area once logged in. If you do change it, please write it down and keep in a safe place, and/or email it to the school for our records. Perhaps making it the same as Reading Eggs (or Mathletics, etc) might help your child remember it!

Enjoy playing the games! There’s many to choose from of varying difficulty, targeting a variety of music-related skills. Remember that learning music stimulates areas of the brain also beneficial for maths and English, as well as enhancing general skills and quality of life!

If you see how much fun the games are and want to have a go for yourself, please don’t hesitate to contact us for your own account to track your progress, rather than playing on your child’s membership as this will distort their results.

Membership is valid until next September, so year 6 will still be able to play through most of next year. Enjoy!
