Note From the ProBy the time this newsletter reaches you, we will have crowned our new mens’ and ladies’ Club Champions. However, the golf season is not over yet, as the Club Championship was the final event to qualify for the Coosaw Cup. Now that the points are final, we will begin contacting the top 20 men and top 7 women in early October to fill out the teams. We will most likely have to go further down the list to fill the teams, so if you didn’t quite make the cut, you may still get a chance to play. The Coosaw Cup uses a Ryder Cup format and will be fun and exciting, so I encourage everyone who qualifies to keep October 20 & 21 open to play.

And, don’t forget about our TaylorMade fitting and Demo Day featuring Cleveland and Titleist on October 13. All of the new 2013 product will be available to try out and now is great time to get fit and find super deals on golf clubs.See you on the links,Mike Benner, GM/Director of Golf

COOSAW CREEK COUNTRY CLUB Course News 6

Every golfer I feel has a common miss perception that the golf swing stops at impact and the follow through is not very important. Actually, the follow through is just as important as the back swing from the putter all the way up to your driver. With the putting stroke you want to make sure you are always following through and accelerating through impact instead of decelerating. A good following through will allow you to hold your impact position so that the face is not opening or closing. Same goes for your short game. Make sure we keep the club following through after impact. I see a lot of people just stop their swing as soon as they make contact with the ball. We want to keep the club moving through impact so we are not just using our hands and wrists in our chip shots. It’s especially important to follow through in heavy rough which we have a lot of around Coosaw. With the full swing, the follow through is very important to make sure we are getting our body and hands through the shot. You should make sure you can hold your finish for several seconds with your chest facing the target, all of your weight on your front foot, and a high finish with your hands. If you can do that it will show that you have control of your golf swing and are in good balance. So next time you are out on the course try to make sure your follow through is picture perfect like you would be posing for the camera.

Junior Clinics through-out October. Every Tuesday we will host a junior clinic at 4 pm. Available for all juniors under the age of 13. The Clinic will last approximately 1 HOUR and will include on course play with an instructor. And parents, we also encourage you to stay and participate in the clinic as well. There will be a onetime fee of $10 for members and $20 for non- members. Please contact the pro shop for any questions or to sign-up

Going into the fall season, we are very pleased with the overall turf health and condition of the golf course. Gordon and his staff have done a superb job to combat the summer heat and turf issues that we typically encounter in our climate region.Last year, we had an independent course survey conducted by IGM (International Golf Maintenance) to help us evaluate overall turf health and improvement needs, as well as recommend new or different agronomic practices that may have a positive impact on the course. One overwhelming point that was identified in the survey was the positive impact that not over-seeding has on overall turf health and led to our decision to not over-seed greens last year. As evident in our current course conditions this year, skipping over-seeding has proven to have a significant impact on the quality of our greens, especially given the age (20 years) and grass type (tiff dwarf Bermuda). With that said, we have again decided not to over-seed the greens and fairways this fall. We still plan to over-seed all tee boxes and the practice range. We will also be applying the chemical, Chloro Green, on the greens throughout the winter which will allow the dormant grass to keep its green color. This spray pigment is not a paint or dye and does not cause any stress to the grass plant. We have already made two applications to the greens so that the pigment can be absorbed into the grass before they go dormant this fall. We will also make additional applications every month after they go dormant to keep the green color throughout the winter season.

The changes in the course slope and ratings are small and will have minimal effect on everyone’s course handicaps. The new ratings and distances will be indicated on the next printing of the scorecards.

New Rating/Slope Old Rating/Slope Blue Tee 72.4/136 72.5/136Blue/White 71.1/134 71.0/134White Tee 69.8/130 69.6/130White/Green 67.4/120 67.3/120Green Tee 70.6/120 70.6/120 (no change)Green/Gold 67.7/114 67.8/114

Changes have recently been made to #11 and #15 Tees. In both cases the Middle Tee was both expanded and leveled, allowing for more tee placements and consequently distributing the wear and tear that is normally encountered on par 3 tees. The changes also made it possible for these holes to be changed in length, to make the course more playable and enjoyable for our members and guests. As the length of the course is a major factor in determining the Course and Slope Ratings, any changes in length can affect these parameters. The Handicap Committee analyzed the changes and submitted their findings to the SCGA and the WSCGA. They accepted our results and as of October 1, 2012 the Golfnet Handicap computer program will be updated to reflect the changes to the Course and Slope Ratings.

The changes in length are as follows:

#11 Tee Blue Tee No Change White Tee Changed from 205 yds. To 150 yds. Green Tee Changed from 142 yds. To 118 yds. Gold Tee Eliminated. (Was 105 yds,)

#15 Tee Blue Tee Changed from 175 yds. To 201 yds. White Tee Changed from 142 yds. To 148 yds. Green Tee Changed from 114 yds. To 135 yds. Gold Tee Added at 114 yds.

Patrick Beale Memorial TournamentThis year we had 66 players participate in our charity tournament to benefit MUSC Hollins Cancer Center. Due to the enormous efforts of AB Bell and the wonderful Coosaw Creek com-munity, we were able to raise $7,500 for the char-ity, which made all of the participant’s winners! Thank you for your participation and great sup-port.

Club Policy Update

New Club Policies Effective July 1, 2012

Coosaw Creek Country Club Walking/Riding Policy effective July 1, 2012

In preparation for the arrival of our new golf cart fleet this summer and in an effort to help improve the maintenance of our golf carts, a new policy will go into effect on July 1, 2012 addressing our walking/riding policy.

1. All walkers are expected to walk the entire golf course. Walkers who are found standing on the back of a cart or riding in the cart at anytime during their round will be charged a cart fee for their round.

2. Members will be required to use a golf cart for all tournament rounds (except Club Championship & Senior Club Championship).

3. Maximum number of carts allowed in a group is 2. For 2 carts to be allowed in any group, a minimum of 3 players is required. Any group found to have multiple carts for single riders will be asked by Club staff to consolidate carts. Failure to consolidate will result in an additional cart fee charged to each single rider.

Coosaw Creek Country Club Pace of Play Policy effective July 1, 2012

In an effort to improve the enjoyment of the round for all of our members and guests, a new policy will go into effect on July 1, 2012 addressing our pace of play policy.

1. Any groups playing with 2 players or singles on weekends and holidays until 10am, will be paired up with other groups when possible. This may require a delay to the start of play from the reserved tee-time. At the discretion of the golf shop staff and based on availability, groups with 2 players or less may be allowed to play but are expected to hold their position on the golf course, directly behind the group in front of them.

2. The expected pace of play at Coosaw Creek is 4 hours and 15 minutes. All play starting before 10am on weekends and holidays is expected to maintain this pace of play. A group out of position will be notified that they are out of position. If that group fails to regain their position on the course, the group will be directed to skip forward to regain their position. Any groups who fail to finish their round of golf within the expected pace of play will not be permitted to play in the members only tee-time block on weekends and holidays.

We hope that these policies will help increase the life and reduce the maintenance needs of our golf cars, as well as improve the pace of play and enjoyment of the round during our peak play times.

CCWC 2012 Charities

“Catch the Spirit”

What if we could help end hunger and help break the barriers to early childhood illiteracy?Together, we can make a difference!

This year, Coosaw Creek Women’s Club (CCWC) is proud to be supporting two worthwhile organizations that directly impact the lives of children in our community; Begin With Books and Katie’s Krops.

Begin With Books: Formed in 2009, this all-volunteer program is Charleston County’s Affiliate of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The program’s mission is to eliminate barriers to early childhood literacy by delivering age appropriate books to pre-school children by mail, from birth to age 5, in designated zip

codes. Planting the early seeds of literacy will improve school readiness for children entering the school system. All funding will be used to register children and to purchase and deliver the books. www.beginwithbooks.org

The following restaurants have agreed to partner with us on October 10th and November 12th. A portion of their food sales will be donated to our charities “Begin with Books” and “Katie’s Krops”. Please support these charities

by visiting these local restaurants on those dates and get in the “spirit”!

Together we can make a difference!

October 10th @ Palmetto Grill (CCCC) 5 – 9pmFood (dine in or take out)& bar

November 12th @ Steel City Pizza 11am – 9pm Dine in or Take out (when you place your order, make sure you let them know you live in Coosaw)

Founder, Katie Stagliano, was in the 3rd grade when her 1st garden adventure grew an amazing 30 lb cabbage! This one cabbage led to her dream of starting, maintaining and donating the harvest to help feed people in need. Katie’s Krops now has 5 operating gardens in the Lowcountry, plus a 48’x 25’ greenhouse which she and other school age children maintain. Not only does Katie’s Krops help feed those in need, Katie serves as an inspiration and role model for other kids to do the same. The funding will be used for the gardens and meals for families in need. www.katieskrops.com
