About Us

Brave Fish Yoga is the manifestation of the love, devotion and mutual respect between a mother and daughter and their shared experience of theyoga path.

Our dream is to encourage all students, whatever their ability, to feel a valuable part of this traditional yoga community. We are extremely

passionate about what we do and are always keen to prompt our students to look far beyond the physical dimension of yoga and to move awayfrom the “arbitrary standard” in modern yoga.

With over 40 years of collective yoga knowledge, practice and teaching, we have been fortunate enough to be able to continue ongoing trainingwith some of the finest teachers in the world including Shri Dharma Mittra, Shiva Rea, Sarah Powers, Bernie Clark, Joe Barnett, Jo Phee and PaulGrilley. Clare has also completed her studies in the History of Yoga, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata at Oxford University Centre for Hindu

Studies.

We offer this yoga immersion experience as a means to self-inquiry, transformation, and as a path to live our most authentic truth. We wish tocreate a safe space in which students are able to deepen their understanding of their essence Self and fully explore their own unique human

architecture.

“Be aware of me always, adore me, make every act an offering to me, and you shall come to me; this I promise; for you are dear to me. Abandonall supports and look to me for protection. I shall purify you from the sins of the past; do not grieve.” - Bhagavad Gita

LOVE,

Clare & Daisy Allen

Asana

We have drawn inspiration from many yoga disciplines such as Sivananda, Vinyasa,Daoism and Yin to create a unique practice called the “Brave Movement”. This

practice, which is both mentally and physically challenging, is designed to transformthe limited ideas that we have of ourselves, our ability, and our communities. The

sequence includes both Yang (Hatha Tradition) and Yin (Paul Grilley) asana practice.

Some postures are translated into Sanskrit and others are not. This is to differentiatebetween the postures drawn from the Hatha yoga tradition and those that are yin

postures.

From  moving to being, from seeing to feeling.

The course will be divided into 4 cycles of 5 days. Each cycle is named after a hero from the Hindu Pantheon which embodies certain qualities which we believe will make a good yogi and teacher. There will be a strong emphasis on the early formulations of yoga and the pre-modern traditional teachings of yoga. The first two chapters will explore the Vedas, The Upanishads, The Puranas, The Epics, The Hatha YogaPadipika & Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and the final two chapters will explore in depth The Ramayana and The Mahabharata / The Bhagavad Gita. Learning about these texts, their central themes and characters and how they relateto us in the present is central to the course. We also wish to guide our students to deepen their understanding of the duty they have as practitioners when “off the mat”, placing a strong emphasis on our connections with eachother and to our planet. Throughout the Asana module we will be teaching our unique Brave Fish Yoga Sequence; the “Brave Movement”. The sequence will be divided into 8 sections, including pranayama, and taught in detail during the first twochapters. During this time, students will practice teaching each section in small groups in a relaxed setting. They will learn about the anatomy of the poses, cues and adjustment techniques as well as exploring and developingtheir own style of teaching. In the third chapter we will discuss alternative sequences and postures, as well as modifications and variations. During the final chapter each student will be given the chance to offer classes as ateacher in different group dynamics. There will be feedback sessions from other students and from the trainers, and following this, there will be a final assessment during a 1:1 teaching scenario. The classes will be 90 minuteslong so as to practice time management skills. There will also be a daily yin practice in the Paul Grilley Yin yoga style. Therefore, students can gain a deeper understanding of the Yin practice and its principles. Both trainers onthe course have trained with Paul Grilley and the Senior teacher has also trained with Bernie Clark, Sarah Powers, Joe Barnett and Jo Phee. Throughout the training we will be discussing a variety of topics around our own and each other's spiritual healing and personal development. We will be analysing both western and eastern approach and theory to Anatomy & Physiology and the Energetic body throughout the entire course, including but not limited to:

Towards the end of the course we will also discuss  "Yoga for business," covering related topics such as Yoga Alliance registration, insurance, marketing and setting up classes, to help prepare our students for their teaching lifeafter the TTC.
