What is New in The 2010 MS Office OPK (cont.)• Single command-line installation: OEM

can define which Office applications to load using a single command line.

• Improved multilanguage support• Office and Starter are loaded, not

installed, on the PC during the OPK setup. The actual installation happens when the end-user chooses an application in the Office OOBE’s User Interface (UI).

System Requirements

• Office 2010 was designed for use with the Windows® operating system, and requires one of the following versions of Windows:

−Windows Vista® with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later

−Windows® 7 RTM or later

• MS Windows XP and XP Mode are not supported.

• The PC cannot have any prior versions of Office installed. It must be a clean machine.

• We recommend that you install the latest updates and service packs available for each respective operating system installing Office 2010.

• Q: drive letter must be free. It is required by the C2R engine to run Office Starter. This drive letter will be taken during Office Starter’s installation.

What do You Need to Install the New Office 2010 OPK

• IMPORTANT!! Read the OPK Guide document included with the OPK disk image.

• The PC on which the OPK will be installed

• The OPK disk image or physical media (DVD) containing the bits

− Download OPK disk image from Microsoft’s partner website: OPC

− You need one OPK image per language you wish to install in the PC.

− You can install as many languages in the same PC as you wish.

• Other applications that you may install, as part of your agreement with Microsoft, such as WLE (Windows Live Essentials) and the Search Toolbar. Refer to their setup guide for installation details.

You can install the OPK individually (directly from DVDs) or from a server (recommended for high-volume production) as indicated by the diagram below.

Office OPK Installation Scenarios

Based on your agreement with Microsoft, you have three options to install the Office 2010 OPK.

1. Office Image only2. Office Image + Standalone Starter3. Office Image + Starter + WLE (Windows

Live Essentials) + Search Toolbar

Please refer to your agreement’s details to select which option to use.

Points of special attention when preparing the production

environment• IMPORTANT!!! Read the OPK Guide (process

changed)• Make sure the target PC is clean. That is, it does

not have any previous version of Office installed.• Run a Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) check on

the Office OPK disk images before you attempt to install them

• Microsoft recommends that you only offer and install Office 32 bits.

• Make sure that the system you are building will not use the drive letter Q:

Build the ImagePrepare for Office 2010 OPKGo through the scorecard with your Microsoft System

Engineer1. Check the parameters you wish to apply in the

command line install (check the OPK Guide)2. Load the OPK disk with the language you wish to

install3. Type the command line and run the install

application4. Load another language OPK 5. Repeat “3, 4 and 5” for as many languages as

desired6. If desired, it is possible to run the OPK installation via

script from a server instead of loading one disk at a time.

How to Install the Office 2010 OPK

Points of special attention during and after installation

− Do not install Office 64 bits with Starter. Only install Office 32 bits.

− Verify that the Office folders were correctly created in the PC

− When installing the Office OPK with other applications make sure to install the Office OPK after all other applications (this ensures the proper file associations required by the 2010 OPK applications will work properly).

− Verify that none of the applications you installed with the Office OPK are using the drive letter Q:

• OPK Review: Review the new OPK procedures, MUI design, Single Image architecture, and Office Starter architecture.• 64-bit Support: Review the addition of 64-bit support and understand the technical changes, messaging, positioning.

1. Planning & Feedback

• Usability: Test Office 2010 on all notebook and desktop platforms, with emphasis on non-standard systems.

• Performance: Test on variety of hardware to ensure quality experience.• Platform Compatibility: Test on both 32-bit and 64-bit systems.

2. Beta Testing

• Office OPK Training: Train employees on the new OPK procedures

3. Technical Training

• Readiness: Complete final factory readiness / testing for all languages and regions desired.

4. Deployment & Schedule

• Misc: WLE (Windows Live Essentials), Search Toolbar and other desired or required applications.

5. Other Applications: downloaded, trained, tested
